About Joyce Okal

Everyone here seems to have a history to this lake, and the lake has a history of its own. There is a book in the house with a story from everyone on the lake. Once home to some stars and singers as a getaway when performing in Chicago.

Joyce Okal purchased this house in 1985

Why Joyce Okal chose Watersmeet

We looked for a house to rent on this lake forever. It never happened so we camped for years. I would have killed to be able to rent here at one time. Its sometimes hard to tell if its going to be as clean and nice as the description. Once you open the door you will breathe a sigh of relief. Most people book for the same time each year in advance. Its right on the lake and so close because they allowed you to build much closer years ago. The screen porch is great because as you know the bugs can be crazy in the U.P. although they haven't been as bad the last few years. The good thing is you can sit in the screen porch and still enjoy the fire and the view of the lake.

What makes this house unique

The views cannot be beat. So quiet you can hear the eagles wings in flight or see them swoop in for a fish. The sunsets are only rivaled by the full moons. There are more stars than you could ever count. There are so many things that you could do and enough reasons to do nothing at all. I can't imagine not being able to come here. Something about it grabs you and never lets go. We are allowing dogs because half the fun of our vacations are enjoying it with our labs. We only ask that you be conscientious about the house and furniture. There are extra sheets you can throw on the bed or couch if your pet likes to sneak up there. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Just what the Dr. ordered!

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I stayed for only 3 days, and it was everything we expected plus more. Lake Marion is quiet and great for paddling and fishing. I caught plenty of bass including a 4 lb smallie. The house was in fantastic shape, and the screened in porch was perfect to watch the sun rise and set. Joyce was very accommodating with anything we needed. We hope to return again in the near future.

Perfect blend of, Off the beaten path mixed with small town convenience near by!! The cabin was very well outfitted with everything we needed and plenty of room. We stayed for 6 days and had a hard time leaving!! The snowmobile trails in the area were amazing!! So many different directions and fun trips to take each day. We will defiantly be renting it again!! The owners were easy to get in touch with and answered any questions we had. Thank you very much!!

Cozy and quiet cabin with a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the White-tail lodge while most of the UP was at peak fall foliage, and it was amazing! The cabin was clean and cozy (and quite large) with pretty much everything that you could ever need. After long days of hiking Pictured Rock, Ottawa National Forest, and the Porkies, we would grill, have a campfire, watch the sunset, canoe on Lake Marion, and look up at the millions of stars. The whole area surrounding the cabin and the lake was so quiet and serene. It was sad to leave and we are already ready to go back!! Will definitely be booking this cabin in the future.
