Exotic Hollywood Hills Studio in a Tropical Setting

This exotic apartment is a hideaway amid the action and fun of Hollywood. The lush tropical back garden is a wonderful place to read a book while enjoying a refreshment – the warm Southern California sun streaking through the tall trees. Staying here is worth a trip to Hollywood all by itself, but with the attraction of all that LA has to offer virtually blocks away, the apartment is part of a truly special house. A 1920's cottage with an old Hollywood feel, staying here is a wonderful experience.

For a one bedroom on the same property, please check out my other rental:

vrbo 418152

• Self-contained separate apartment in private 1920’s house. I live upstairs. (see picture to understand the lay-out)

• Studio with queen bed and lounging area. Pull-out sofa. The two areas can be divided with a curtain that goes clear across the room.

• Easy free on-street parking

• Kitchen

• Bathroom with shower

• Private outdoor seating area. Table and chairs. (Other guests may walk by, but it's all yours to use)

• Use of patio & 1920’s barbeque

• Shared use of huge tropical garden

•Use of on site laundry for a small fee

• Comfy queen size bed

• Sleeper sofa

• Quiet neighborhood

• Centrally located

• Cable TV

• Wifi

• Approx. 300 sq. ft + huge garden

• Friendly atmosphere

• Close to public transport

The apartment will sleep 4 people—2 in the bed, 2 on the fold-out couch.

Footsteps and plumbing can be heard from upstairs, so if you are sound sensitive, you may want to sleep with ear plugs. Not suitable for the handicapped. There are neighborhood cats and a dog on the property which sometimes wander in.

The trees that shade the house keep the house cool in summer except on very rare occasions. Although there is no A.C. as it's normally unnecessary I do provide fans. Portable heaters are provided for chilly nights.

14% hotel tax due in cash upon arrival. No tax necessary on stays of 30 nights or more.

PETS: Once approved, there is a fee of $15 per night per pet. If you have ticked off the pet section when booking with VRBO, you have already paid for 2 nights of one pet. The balance is to be paid either via PayPal prior to arrival or in cash upon arrival.

About Yvonne

I love to travel. I have been to every continent except for Antarctica, and it's not likely I will ever go. I hate cold weather. I love the tropics, which is reflected in my garden. When I'm not traveling, I enjoy meeting other travelers, which is why I so enjoy having a vacation rental. Please check out the reviews on the other listing 418152

Yvonne purchased this studio in 1978

Why Yvonne chose Los Angeles County

I have known this property since I was a little girl. I always felt there was some magic in it. This property attracts people with a creative sensibility. I always felt good here. Many people who have lived here in the past remember it as some of the best years of their lives. The majority of guests, many of whom either work in the arts, or have a sympathy for them, have felt that magic and tell me they hate to leave. This always makes me very happy.

What makes this studio unique

While you are here you can hardly believe you're right in the middle of the city. There is almost a semi-rural feel to it. Lots of trees. Quiet streets. And at times you would think you are in a wild-life reserve--squirrels, racoons, coyotes, deer, birds and more. Yet you are only paces away from the razzle-dazzle of Hollywood--the best of all worlds in one.

It's no wonder L.A. magazine has listed this area as one of the ten best places to live in Los Angeles.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed (myself and a friend) at this charming downstairs studio (bed plus sleeper) apartment for 3 nights. If you like old Hollywood bungalows, this is your place! Decor is a mix of Moroccan color (cool!) and great vintage. Tiny kitchen (with a very cool vintage gas stove) and bathroom, but great outdoor space attached, so it did not feel like we were on top of each other. The studio was clean and has just the right utensils, etc. Do remember that this is a vacation rental, not a hotel, so stop for supplies at the nearby Trader Joe's. Don't forget the toilet paper and paper towels (if you are going to take advantage of the cute little kitchen!)

Was a very nice property and private, and quiet at night

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I loved the place. it's very close to everything and micheal that lives in the back where the garden is, he is a very friendly guy and we enjoyed taking to him. Yvonne made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely request this property again.

Charming Thailand style experience

  • 5 of 5

Yvonne's place is a beautiful place located very close to Universal Studios. We enjoyed our stay very much. We spent quite a bit of time enjoying the tropical garden, which meanders through three artfully distinct spaces with tables and chairs for dining or visiting. The whole place was reminiscent of some of the places that we enjoyed on our travels to Thailand.

The accommodations were wonderful. The entire property is full of eclectic quirk and character, which we adored. The location was perfect! A safe, quiet street very close to the best LA has to offer. Yvonne was extremely responsive to our couple of requests. We wish we could ha e stayed longer!

Loved it.

  • 5 of 5

Probably the only time "Bohemian" is an understatement. The room was cozy and on the ground floor of a sprawling house (still not sure how big it is). The long, deep garden is nothing short of astonishing. Yvonne goes out of her way to be welcoming and helpful. The neighborhood is quiet and loaded with personality (but one of those bowl of spaghetti street plans - you definitely need a car and a GPS). I was there alone and on business so I didn't have time to absorb the full quirkiness of the place. Next time, I'll come back with my wife for a leisurely stay and make full use of the garden.

Although hidden away in the hills, this property is right in the center of all that Hollywood has to offer. The attractions are almost too numerous to mention, many (not all) in walking distance, but here are a few:

Right on this block many houses once inhabited by movie stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Hollywood Boulevard

Hollywood Bowl

Academy Awards Theater

Mann's Chinese star's footprints

Tons of bars

Tons of restaurants

Universal Studios

West Hollywood

Sunset Strip

Los Feliz/Silverlake

The Hollywood sign

Wax Museum

Griffith Park

Oh gosh . . . lets talk about more places when you get here.
