Great location, good for kids
The home is in a prime location a 15 minute walk from the beach. Hot tub is exceptional, bedrooms are comfy, and there are beautiful ocean views throughout.
On the downside, the place is pretty worn. The pots and pans are unusable, unless you want old flaky Teflon in your meal. Almost all of the toilet paper holders are broken or about to break. The shower curtain in the guest bath is moldy. There was also a pan filled with bacon grease in the oven when we arrived but that was, I assume, a one time oversight.
If you’re looking for a place to crash with a big family, and aren’t too picky about minor details, this could be your spot.
Great House for a family vacation
Everyone in my family group commented on how comfortable the beds were, which we really appreciated.
The house has a unique design, to capture an ocean view. The living room, dining room and kitchen are on the top floor, (with an outdoor deck), so a flight and a half up from the front door. The bedrooms are on the middle floor (with a deck and hot tub off the master), a half flight up from the front door. The laundry room, which has a fold out sofa but no window, is a half flight down from the front door. Lots of space and light. A great location for spending a couple days on the coast - we spent time in Santa Cruz one day, and Monterey another.
Family Wedding Stay
The location was very good for us and was pleasantly surprised that there was actually room for 3 cars to park in the driveway. The house itself was in need of lots of repairs. The front steps are actually dangerous in their disrepair. My 78 year old step-mom nearly took a tumble trying to hold onto the railing and avoid the broken tiles at the same time. The inside kitchen area and living area were clean, but the stair railings inside the home need a thorough cleaning as they are very dirty. There was really only one shower that was usable in the entire house. The master bath room has a "shower/tub" combo that no one wanted to step foot into. The whole set up is tiled with wide grout lines (circa 1990 ish) and to get into the shower you had to climb up some steps then step down about 3 feet! No one dared use it (not even the boys). Beware of the sofa bed in the lower level. You will be sleeping with the furnace. Not a great place for anyone to sleep. There was an abundance of pillows and blankets and love having a Keurig stocked with coffee (no sugar anywhere though). Finally, I contacted the owner with enough advance notice to cancel our third night and she refused to do so stating I was too late, but I was not. She finally got me to agree to pay half, but she had us over a barrel as I made the reservation for July back in March and couldn't get a new one anywhere. Would not stay there again, mainly due to the owners attitude. Oh, my brother came out to help us with the luggage and accidentally forgot to unlock the door. We were locked out. The owner did graciously bring a key to let us in, after admonishing us and saying how "lucky" we were she was around. May want to install a key pad entry so this doesn't happen to others (as she said it has). Took lots of before and after pics of the place as we were afraid she'd try to keep our damage deposit, but she didn't (and had no reason to be able to).
Thank you for your candid review. We will let the housekeeper know about the staircase. Regarding the master bathroom, we’ve never had anyone list it as difficult to get in / out of it, but will look at it once we remodel that bathroom.
As mentioned previously a reservation can not be changed during the 30 days before your arrival date. I agreed to do as a favor, and only charged you for half of the 3rd day. I felt that was more than fair, but apparently you thought otherwise.
This house had a lot more to it like the swirl stairs leading to the rooftop! We enjoyed our stay!
Love this place!
Unique and charming. Lovely 😊
Three couples stayed for the weekend. It was the perfect place.
Thank you for the nice review. Please contact us again should you return to Aptos.
