Quiet but nice, Great owner
We had a wonderful time and the owner is very responsive to texts/calls. He also knows a lot about the area and has many suggestions for fun. Tons of coral right in front of apartment in water. Bring your own snorkel gear and water shoes. The beds are comfortable, very clean w a housekeeper 3 days a week. She can also wash your clothes and cook for you for a very small fee. Beach is right outside and very quiet. Only 2 resorts on either side of apartments so the beach was pretty much ours. The a/c was not operable at the time but we knew when we rented. But it was cool inside with balcony doors and entry door open and there are pedestal fans in two rooms. Kitchen has gas cooking and propane grill. Safe available to use but there are armed guards for each resort at the beach entrance and a lift gate to get back to apt and then an armed guard sits all day/night in parking lot. This place is very safe. There are 2 pools and a “hot” tub that is not heated but has jets. Nothing is walking distance so rent a car. Taxis are very expensive from here and you have to negotiate a price. Airport in Punta Cana had drivers that wanted $80, $70, $60 then $50. Just keep going til you find one at your price. Remember, if you want peace and quiet this is the place. We would come back again.
Would not recommend this property
This property needs to have quite a few upgrades before it's ready to be rented out.
Pros: Beautiful pool, nice beach, 3 bedroom unit, wonderful housekeeper.
Cons: The air conditioning doesn't work. Despite another reviewer saying on June 11 (we arrived on June 28) that the air doesn't work, when I contacted the owner to say it didn't work he said they'd only found out a couple of days before and you really don't need it. I realized he'd told me a number of times earlier you don't need the a/c so I'm guessing it hasn't worked in a very long time. We had 3 teenagers with us and it was 90 degrees in the apartment and hotter upstairs. Very humid - it was unbearable. I wouldn't have rented a place without air conditioning. He said he'd have someone over on Monday to fix it - Monday came and went and no word.
Other problems: The shower doesn't work upstairs because of no water pressure, water trickles out but you couldn't take a shower. The washing machine doesn't work so they had a portable washing machine you hook up in the shower and plug in to electricity (seems safe!) which we could never figure out. Fortunately the cleaning lady did our laundry for some extra cash. The grill doesn't work - we could never get it going. The hot water has to be turned on in the laundry room and then only works for a couple of minutes. We could never get the oven on, but the toaster oven worked. There are areas all over the house that are patched / repaired but never painted over - feels like they started to work on it but never finished. The kitchen is well stocked but you would never use the large knives for cooking - they're completely rusted and grimy. Very strange. The stairs leading to the 3rd bedroom are very rickety. I wouldn't have kids under about 13 staying up there and I didn't let more than one person on the stairs at a time. Definitely not safe for younger kids.
Note to owner - get an instruction book put together with information on how to run everything, i.e. you have to turn on the gas in the laundry to get the stove top to work, you have to turn on another gas tank in the kitchen to get the dryer to work, how to turn on the hot water, etc. All very confusing and we had to contact him to ask how to work everything.
Overall I would not stay here nor recommend. Owner more concerned about his review than actually making sure the unit was as advertised. We felt quite deceived.
I like the owner but not his amenities...
The property was everything it said it was in the picture. The owner even was cool and showed us around. He has great hospitality, however, when we got to the property, there was no working water. He had somebody fix it and then there was water. He also showed us how to work the hot water, but we never had any, well maybe for 20 seconds. The biggest issue was that we were in a humid area with no air conditioning. We had a small fan above the bed and one that was in the living room. Also the place need new towels. They were old but we had to work with we had. Overall, the owners hospitality was great, but the amenities were not what I expected. I’m giving 3 stars only for the owners hospitality.
Showed up at 6 am after an overnight flight and nobody was there to let us in. Screwed around in the rain (tropical storm) for 45 minutes or so with our 2 small children and the taxi driver increasing his tab before we finally told taxi driver to find us somewhere else. After driving around for 3 hours and $160 taxi bill and not finding a place we came back and got in. Tried to put passports and cash in the safe that was there but the owner of the apartment texted me back and said the safe was for his own personal use. We didn't need it. Really, he actually said that. We could not use it b/c we didn't need it, but he needed it. Wow! The rain and pooled on the outside deck to about 3 inches on the very slippery and now underwater tile. Not safe for adults let alone kids running around. Went up the stairs to the loft and quickly found out there must not be a code for stairs in the DR. You can't walk on the outside part of the stairs b/c they will tear away from the crappy construction job and you will fall. You basically have to tip to up and keep all your weight on the middle of the stairs. My wife had enough of the place the first day and on day 2 we found somewhere else to go.
Yes reading Alan review on the apartment in Las dunas, Dominican Republic, the reason why nobody was there to let him in is because after talking to Alan back and forth two or three days prior to his check in, he decided to show up 12 hours early, had no way of knowing that he was going to be there,
With regards to the stairs going up to the loft the stairway were a $10,000 upgrade from the stairs that were originally designed for the apartment, the stairs themselves are welded stainless steel with the runners that you step on 3 inch by 12 in Oak steps, not likely going to tear away from the construction of the stairs
After speaking to Alan after a day or so in the apartment, he said that his wife was not happy with the area that they were staying because it was very quiet they wanted a lot more action and other things to do, also asked if you would return our money, I asked him to read the write-up, through home away, quiet living is exactly what this apartment is all about
Perfect place for a family vacation
Beautiful apartment with the beach just steps away and a lovely pool to relax beside. This place had plenty of room for our group of 6. We spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying the view of the ocean. Everyone was very friendly and helpful including our host Rod and the amazing housekeeper who cooked us a very tasty meal on our first night. There are not many restaurants close by but the kitchen is equipped. We chose to rent a van and pick up groceries on the way. Really glad we had a vehicle to explore the beaches. Use the Waze App for directions. Macao Beach is close by and a definite must. We also drove to the Caribbean Ocean side and took a boat to Saona Island which I would recommend. Great place to vacation.
Thanks again for everything guys, I hope to see you again
Beautiful, relaxing, WONDERFUL place to stay!
The condo amenities had all we needed and the view from balcony was amazing. Rod, the owner, met us at Bavaro San Juan shopping center and took our groceries to condo since our rental car was packed with luggage. He showed us places to eat, shop, and messaged often to make sure all was well and was very helpful. The beach is just steps away from condo and pool was awesome and not swarming with people - pretty much had beach to myself each day and security was around all the time, but we had no peddlers around like the larger resorts do. For excursion reservations, Marcia is the BEST! We did Samana whale watching (saw 2 whales!) that included lunch and horseback riding to waterfalls and our girls (22 and 25 yrs old) did swimming with dolphins. We drove to Domincus beach to snorkel and swim, and I highly recommend Pirate Factory Rum (near Bavaro San Juan Shopping Center). We had a wonderful time and would definitely reserve this condo again on a return visit...great value and excellent service!
