Wonderful space for family gatherings groups of friends. Extremely quiet and rural. Great place to hike, mountain bike or relax in the summer.
Private. Easy access from the I-80 freeway, but not too close. Close to ski resorts
Castlepine couldn't have worked out better for us. Even with a large group, the place still felt huge. Very comfortable, quiet and somewhat secluded. Great place for a ski retreat - only 8 miles from Sugar Bowl. This trip could easily become tradition.
Alicia was an ideal host - welcoming, informative, laid back and always within reach, but never overbearing or interfering. You could tell she just genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Definitely would book with her again.
We loved the views from the wrap around deck and family room! The house is very large with a huge kitchen. We had a small group but I could easily see a few families sharing this property. Alicia was great to deal with. She was quick to respond to any and all questions before and during our stay. We would definitely stay here again.
It went very well. It was way bigger than expected and it suited us really well. Everyone that was there had a blast and kept saying thank you for letting us have this opportunity.
We came along with 2 other families and a total of 8 young kids. House was very spacious, good set-up for separate sleeping areas for youngest kids, older kids, and 3 sets of parents in different bedrooms. Fun deck where we had a BBQ and meals. Easy access to Tahoe (30 mins) and other area attractions such as Donner Lake (maybe 10 mins away). Good communication and customer service when dealing with owner.
Issues to note:
-As house descrption clearly states, but worth emphasizing, this place is not childproofed. Constantly had to keep eye on kids so that they would stay away from loft ladder and not accidentally fall through slats of railing on 2nd floor.
-Could hear highway noise from house very clearly when outside (kind of sounded like rushing river)
-As others have stated, some things in house could definitely use updating and would give this place a more luxurious/fun feel. For example, some of mattresses uncomfortable, would be nice to have a hammock for adults and/or swings outside for kids, and annoying to come in and realize that the hot-tub in master bath was non-functional (complete with sign saying so) - why not just fix it?! Finally, having to bring your own bedding is a d-r-a-g. It is stated in the description, but who wants to come on a vacation dragging 1/2 of their house including bedding.
The home was centrally located. We were three families who stayed for a night and enjoyed our stay. The kids had a blast as well. The home could do with a bit of updating to make it a bit more modern, but overall it was clean and well maintained.
We brought our Scout Troop and had a wonderful experience. There are separate sleeping areas on four levels, a large and functional kitchen, and a comfortable living room with lots of movies available to play on the big screen television. The cabin is clean and well maintained. Plus it is close to Boreal and Sugar Bowl.
We had a great stay. The accomodations were great for all three families. My husband particularly loved the snow blower in the morning as we had to get ourselves out to go skiingin the early morning. We were there at a great time. Tons of snow. The kids enjoyed the game room and exploring around the snow covered areas around the house. It had ever utensil and appliance in the kitchen that you can imagine. Including a coffee bean grinder(love our coffee). Nice equipped bar as well. Derek & Alicia were a pleasure to work with and were just a text away. We'll be back!
The cabin is located on Donner Summit in the small mountain community of Plavada Woodlands. We are 1 exit from Soda Springs. 15 minutes from Truckee, 8 minutes to Sugar bowl Boreal, Woodward. 30 minutes to Squaw, Alpine, Homewood
