Tucked into a gentle hillside, the Little Round House offers a snug nest with full privacy from which to enjoy a magical countryside in the center of 100s of acres of pastoral beauty, in a permanently protected preservation easement, teeming with wildlife, surrounded by peaceful farmlands.
Features include extraordinary hand-crafted floors, walls, ceilings, doors and furnishings of elegant hardwoods and re-cycled chestnut beams from a 19th century barn.
With the Little Round House as your vacation base, you can EASILY DRIVE TO DOZENS OF HISTORIC SITES and some of the world's finest visitor's centers to experience history where it happened, and honor those who fought and died to make America the great nation it is today.
A mere 15-minute drive will take you to Gettysburg--to where Chamberlain stood moments before he led a bayonet charge down the slopes of Little Round Top; to Cemetery Ridge, where the rebel yell still echoes from Pickett's Confederates as they charged to the 'high water mark' of the war; to the Gettysburg Cemetery, where Lincoln delivered the most famous speech in history honoring those who gave 'the last full measure.'
From here you have easy access to many of America's other most important historical sites as well, including Antietam and Monocacy Battlefields, as well as cultural and recreational sites in and around Washington DC and Baltimore.
After a day of sightseeing, GOLF, or ANTIQUES SHOPPING in the MANY OF THE EXCELLENT ANTIQUE SHOPS in Carroll County, you can kick back at your Little Round House.
Sip a cool iced tea or glass of wine from under your private gazebo as steaks sizzle on the grill, and a red setting sun yields the dimming fields and sycamore trees to a constellation of sparkling fireflies.
Or, enjoy the Maryland traditional celebratory feast: a pot of blue crabs from Vince's Seafood, steaming in savory Old Bay seasoning, with cold bottle of delicious locally crafted beer, or a chilled glass of fresh apple cider from nearby Baugher's Orchard.
Prefer to dine out? Vista is only 3 miles from Taneytown, where you can find WORLD-CLASS DINING at the Smokehouse Restaurant, the fabulous restaurant of the deluxe country hotel, ANTRIM 1844 an elegant ante-bellum mansion. At the other end of the cost spectrum, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and other eateries are CLOSE and offer faster food alternatives.
The larger, but still nearby towns of Gettysburg and Westminster boast wonderful small-town character in pubs, diners, and family restaurants to please any palate and any budget.
For a quiet evening at your Hobbit Hideaway, enjoy a movie or documentary from a collection of Civil War DVDs on an HD TV, which also includes broadcast TV viewing options.
For a quieter evening, curl up next to the toasty Avalon stove with one of the many books of Civil War and American fiction and history books and periodicals.
Enjoy WiFi for HIGH-SPEED INTERNET access. Use it to look up your Civil War ancestors, check your email, or tell your Facebook friends what a great time you are having!

We really enjoyed the Little Round House
The home, the property, the owners, the remote environment, Taneytown, was first rate.
Sitting in the kitchen area watching the bird feeders and how it attracted so many different species was incredible. The squirrels were fun to to watch as well. But what was amazing is how did the alpha squirrel get up on the steel bird feeder stand? Did he leap to the feeder?
Remarkably, we were able watch to this big squirrel climb the steel rod like it was a wood pole to eat from the feeder. Though no deer came around while we at the house, but on the way out the road when leaving, six deer. The fire place, the fire pit, the house, all good.
Chris was great! The welcome sign was really cool. Gettysburg was amazing.
Just a super 38th wedding anniversary.
Wonderful & Relaxing Getaway!
Such an amazing place! The house is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Inside is enough to keep you entertained, or you can walk around the beautiful property, and maybe have the pleasure of a K-9 visit, there are some nice paths by the stream right out back to walk along, or build a fire in the fire pit. We bought some groceries to cook in the nicely equipped kitchen and grill - and hunkered down for an unplugged weekend. Chris is a very friendly and accommodating host!
Ivette and I were so pleasantly surprised at the accommodations. We were looking to get away from the daily routine and just unplug. This did all of that and more. Chris and Melissa, the owners, could not have been more friendly. They made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our hike around the property, met the goats and even made a friends with of their dogs. The cabin was so comfortable. We will definitely be coming back for another stay. Maybe in the fall when the leaves are changing. Must do!
Distinctive one-of-a-kind home in a peaceful lovely setting
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at The Little Round House! The home is beautiful, cozy and comfortable. Our hosts were attentive and caring. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and taking walks around the farm during the day. It is conveniently located to Gettysburg College and the battlefields. We cannot wait to go back!
The perfect place to relax and enjoy nature
We absolutely loved the little round house. Everything we needed was provided in a most attractive way. Chris was a delightful and helpful host. The location near Gettysburg was perfect for our visit to the battlefield. We highly recommend this place to others.
Our Home in Maryland while Visiting Family ~
This is our second stay in the Little Round House. My husband and I have made it our official home in Maryland while visiting his family. Chris and Melissa are the best of hosts! We love the seclusion with the birds, squirrels and bunnies! It's a beautiful little retreat.
