Overview

About the property

2-Story 4-bedroom, 3-bath stone farmhouse in beautiful valley landscape

BREVARD, NC - This property is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom stone farmhouse sitting on 84 breath-taking acres. It is set in a beautiful valley, providing beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The property is gated, offering plenty of privacy. It is located only ten minutes from one of North Carolina's favorite small towns, Brevard. The house itself features 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king bed and is attached suite style to an amazing master bathroom. Another bedroom features a queen bed, while the two remaining each offer two twin beds. There are two other bathrooms outside of the master, making three total. The kitchen area and dining room are open and flowing, and provide easy access to a patio via a sliding glass door. The den downstairs features a stone gas fireplace, a couch and loveseat, and a high definition television. High definition television and wireless internet access are available, as are all standard kitchen utilities (fridge, oven, microwave, etc.)

The Sykes family assumed stewardship of this property in 2011, after it had been continuously owned and farmed by the Shuford family for over 160 years. We have paid homage to the Shuford family by carefully restoring the Shuford’s “stone house” which was originally constructed in 1940. It should be noted that this house was actually constructed prior to wide-spread usage of plywood, sheetrock, or many other “modern” construction materials. In fact, it was constructed approximately a dozen years prior to electric power reaching this portion of the Little River valley. Completely renovated in 2012, the house now has 4 generous bedrooms and three bathrooms, all completely restored to reflect the original craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the original house. Perhaps the centerpiece is the master bathroom’s clawfoot bathtub sitting on stone flooring, in front of a second story window overlooking the distant Pisgah National Forest ridgeline. Behind the house is a grand barn of approximately the same vintage. The Sykes family is currently remodeling the barn to function both for the Shuford Farm’s herd of Registered Red Angus cattle, but also as a unique venue for celebrating the numerous outdoor adventure activities to be pursued in and around Transylvania County. Hence, the “Pisgah Gravity Research Center” – dedicated to low gravity days and high gravity excitement! In addition to the Assault on the Carolinas, we also support at a significant level the 6-time National Champion Brevard College Cycling Team, Brevard High School Junior Cycling Program, Boy Scouts of America, Trout Unlimited, Free Rein Equestrian Program, Carolina Climbers Coalition and the Southeast Climbers Coalition.

The Sykes family makes the Shuford Farm “Stone House”, the “Pisgah Gravity Research Center”, and the two vacation cabins comprising Bear Ridge Cabins, located on Mine Mountain available for vacation rentals.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We met my sister and her family in Penrose, NC to spend some time after the holidays and selected this location because it was near my Mom's home in Hendersonville, NC. We had an absolutely wonderful stay and the house was just perfect and comfortable for 8 people. Beautifully appointed, very clean, spacious and just a great place to rest, relax and recharge. The farmland was just beautiful and we loved the crow of the rooster every morning! It was so much fun to walk the property and see the cows! We greatly appreciated the owner taking the time to give us the history of the home and grounds and on a tour of the other home on the property! So much to do in the area - went to Hendersonville, Brevard, River Arts District, Grove Park Inn, Looking Glass Falls in Pisgah Forest! Would highly recommend this property for a large group. Thank you! We would love to come back!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures really do not do this house justice. The renovation that the owner did on this 1930s stone house is impeccable. The house was immaculately clean and everything crispy new. The beds were all very comfortable (and I'm picky!!), the kitchen well stocked and there was plenty of seating for our whole family of 9 in the living room. The farmhouse dining table was just perfect for our Thanksgiving feast that we prepared! The house is lovely but the true beauty is the views from the dining room and deck. The grounds are so gorgeous!! We explored and discovered cows and chickens and amazing sunsets. The fire pit was so nice! We had a very fun night around the roaring fire with s'mores and family stories. The yard was perfect for frisbee and hitting golf balls while we fried our Thanksgiving turkey. The owner stopped by and introduced himself and gave us a history of the property and houses. It was a real treat to meet and talk to our gracious host! We had 4 generations here for the week and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We will miss this time together is such a beautiful place!!

Lovely renovated farmhouse with a view

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful farmhouse nestled in the valley on rolling acres with such beautiful views of the foothills. The deck out back was a great place to sip wine and enjoy time with good friends. The home was renovated well having ample space for a large family. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful old farmhouse placed in scenic valley

  • 5 of 5

We happened upon this vacation rental by accident and are so happy that we did. We had everything we needed and more as far as basic necessities go. The house is superbly stocked with kitchen utensils, decorations, and other commodities. We did not go out to eat once because we enjoyed sitting on the porch with the gorgeous views of the mountains all around. The property is incredibly peaceful and beautiful, as is the house. The owner stopped by one day when we were outside and introduced himself. He was incredibly kind and spend a bit of time with us explaining the history of the property.

There were four couples, one with kids, who stayed in this rental. We had plenty of space for all of us. We sincerely hope this vacation property is still available next year so we can stay here again!
