About Marijke Spilman

Ted and I (Marijke) have lived at Pine Mountain Lake for 26 years, and still feel like we are on vacation. We enjoy having company, and like to see our guests enjoy this beautiful area. Ted is a retired musician, trumpet and piano player. Also a band and choir director. He was born in Canada, on the St. Lawrence River, and worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway while he was getting his music degree from Potsdam State College N.Y. Ted also went to the Toronto conservatory for 2 years, and he speaks a little French.

I was born in Delft, Holland, and came to the U.S.A. by way of Canada when I was 12. I lived in Edmonton Alberta for 7 years. I am a hair stylist. I like to perform in our local melodramas. I speak fluent Dutch and English.

Marijke Spilman purchased this lodge in 1986

Why Marijke Spilman chose Yosemite Area

We chose to live here because of the clean air, the beautiful lake, friendly people, tennis and the natural surroundings. Ted retired, and we decided to move up to Pine Mountain Lake, and we have never been sorry. We planted all the trees on our property ourselves. We dug up tiny seedlings and planted a lot of trees from seeds. Now we have great shade in the summer.

What makes this lodge unique

There is an airport here, so if you fly in we can pick you up. We're within walking distance from the beautiful lake and beach. There is a water taxi to take you to the marina, where you can get lunch or dinner and can also rent boats. Tennis courts are a 5 min walk from our house.

Completely Happy

  • 5 of 5

My Girlfriend and I stayed here with our two dogs after deciding last minute to spend the night in Groveland. The host, Marijke was so very hospitable and her huge downstairs suite (with its own entrance) was amazing. Warm, comfortable, well appointed... also, I want the bed- so big and comfy. Definitely recommend!

Cozy lodge and gracious owner

  • 5 of 5

I was meant to book the place on Thanksgiving, but somehow actually booked it since Black Friday. I didn't realize my mistake until we had arrived at the gate of the community at dark. We were in a panic as we arrived a place with no cell phone signal and in thanksgiving night. Luckily we have Marijke, a very nice and heart-warming lady, who helped us to find a place to stay in her friends' house nearby, who are also very nice couple. Thank you Marijke, please also express my sincere thanks to your lovely friends.

Lovely Studio at Pine Mountain Lake

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four days in the spacious studio/kitchenette iocated on the ground level of the home of Marijke and Ted Spilman, who live upstairs. Marijke is a lovely woman who is very helpfuland has set the place up with everything that is needed for a comfortable stay that includes cooking or food preparation. Can eat inside or on the patio. The full-size refrigerator is very convenient.

We loved the animal-friendly environment' saw deer, wild turkeys, hummingbirds, vireos, jays, towhees, titmouse, white-crowned sparrows. Nice trees on the property. It was very peaceful there, our hosts were great and we enjoyed our stay very much. A great nest away from home.

large neighborhood and large space

  • 3 of 5

My husband got woke up early by the dog barking. Would have been nice to know ahead of time that we had to pay $25 for parking in the neighborhood as we did not have time to use the pool/lake.
