Guestbook comments from the manager

Thanks so much, we had a wonderful time, and the house and location were both fabulous. We did so many fun things while we were there, and also appreciated having a “home base” to come back to every day where we could just hang out and everyone had enough space. We cooked a lot of nice meals and enjoyed eating every morning and most evenings out on the deck!

We would definitely enjoy returning again one day, but alas, not next summer. We are checking out another locale then.

Thanks again for a wonderful accommodation and a beautiful house!

Beautiful views, clean & modern, lots of space, with a HVAC learning curve

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed our stay here! We had six people, and we used all five bedrooms. I liked that the house was new, clean, modern, and in excellent condition. Excellent high-speed Internet!

The Jacuzzi was fantastic, with a view of Mt. Adams. You also have a fantastic view of Mt Adams and the Columbia River from the kitchen, living room, and deck. I enjoyed watching the trains run along the Washington side of the Columbia River.

The kitchen was really nice, with a gas range. I cooked breakfast for 12 people one morning. In a perfect world, there would have been a couple more large frying pans with non-stick surfaces. I ended up having to buy one at the Safeway grocery store... which is a two-minute car ride away. There's also a WalMart very nearby... so it's easy to get anything you may have forgotten to bring or anything that the house is missing.

I saw a previous review where someone mentioned some issues with the air conditioning system. On our first night in the house, I could see exactly what they meant. All five bedrooms are upstairs. Heat rises... so the bedrooms can be REALLY warm (in the summer) when you arrive. Also, it looks like the owner has the air conditioning set to default to 75 degrees unless you over-ride it. So, when you arrive on a summer day, the downstairs (where the thermostat is) is 75 degrees and the bedrooms upstairs are considerably warmer. It's a big house, and it literally takes HOURS... maybe five or six hours... to cool the house down to 70 from 75 degrees. So, if the upstairs seems warm when you first arrive, make it your first task to set the thermostat to a more comfortable temperature. Also, if things have cooled down outside in the evening, open up a few windows upstairs.

Another issue with the air conditioning system is that the owner has installed a programmable thermostat... and when we arrived, it was programmed to completely turn OFF the air conditioning system each evening at 10 PM. So, the downstairs was 75 when we arrived, the upstairs was considerably warmer, and the air conditioning completely shut off (unbeknownst to us!) at 10 PM. The first night, I only got about 3 hours of sleep... it was just so warm in the bedroom I was in. Once we figured out the quirks of the HVAC system the next day, things were a LOT more comfortable. It's a NEST programmable thermostat that they have installed in the house... so there's a bit of a learning curve, if you've never used one.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We really appreciate it when guests take the time to lend some helpful words to potential future guests, we know it takes time! So again, thank you! A note from the homeowners... "We were horrified to learn that the winter season control's for the thermostat had not been deleted for the warmer months. Our sincerest apologies! We had replaced the old and very difficult to use thermostat with a new 'Nest' thermostat. In fact, we keep the instruction booklet in the 2nd drawer from the left of the refrigerator. Plus, the operating instructions are also in the 'HRVC Book'." The system is meant to be a 'touch and turn', to adjust to the desired temperature. In our quest to make West Sail "a perfect world" for our guests and family - we've also added a 5 qt. non-stick frying pan to the kitchen, as suggested. We want this home to be as user family friendly as possible! We hope to host you again in the future! Hood River Vacation Rentals

Beautiful House!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 9 had a wonderful time in Hood River. The house was perfect and comfortable. Every morning we cooked a full breakfast in the well stocked kitchen. The view is incredible and the bedrooms are comfortable and big enough for individual space. We didn't use the hot tub but the backyard is very inviting for families. Hopefully we will be back soon!

Nice View! Great house for a group.

  • 5 of 5

I have a group of friends that meet up once a year at a rental property. This house was great for us. Everyone had their own space and a nice bed (4 queen or larger beds!) The view of Mt. Adams was fantastic and we really enjoyed the Gorge despite the lack of snow at the ski areas. Everything was clean and in good shape. The kitchen was well stocked and worked great for preparing some big meals. Downtown was a pleasant 20 minute walk. We would be happy to return.

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent choice for a vacation in Hood River. The house is beautifully decorated, and there is ample room for a large group. A hot tub in the backyard is fantastic for kids and adults alike, and the views of the Columbia River the Washington side of the river are breathtaking. We spent a lot of time out on the deck just enjoying the weather and the view. The house is close to town, and there are plenty of scenic drives within minutes of the residence. I highly recommend this vacation home.

The Columbia River Gorge, with its mountains and rivers, offers the vacationer and recreation enthusiast the opportunity to windsurf, mountain bike, kayak, golf, ski, hike, fish, or just relax in the unhurried pace of a natural paradise. Historic buildings line the beautifully scenic streets of downtown Hood River, with a bustling shopping district featuring boutiques, designer shops, outdoor adventure gear outfitters, antique shops, art galleries and no less than 30 restaurants.

There are many orchards and vineyards in Hood River. The Hood River Valley is known for its luscious apples, pears, cherries, peaches and other fruits, and for the view of the majestic snowcapped peak of Mt. Hood. People from all over Oregon make an annual trek in the fall to the many farm stands to stock up on fresh apples and pears. Other produce is available, and varies by season. The award-winning Hood River Vineyards is located on a hillside overlooking the Hood River Valley. Their tasting room features traditional wines, and fruit liqueurs.

The Columbia River Gorge, with its magnificent views make this a dream spot for a destination wedding.

Wind surfing capital of the world is Hood River's latest distinction. The winds from the Columbia River Gorge, best during the middle of the day, create ideal conditions for riding the waves. To enjoy the view of "boardheads" at play, drive to the Columbia Gorge Sailpark or follow Second Street to the waterfront.

The Mt. Hood region and its more than sixty miles of forested mountains, 77 waterfalls and myriad lakes and streams are a rip-roaring mecca for outdoor adventure. The mountain is home to four ski areas and offers the country's only year-round skiing and snowboarding.

Terrific river/mountain views, tons of space to play, quiet setting, walking distance to downtown. This home has all the essentials for a memorable Hood River vacation.

Spread out and enjoy fabulous river/ Mt Adams views while dining on the large deck, relaxing in the comfy living room or soaking in the hot tub!
