Location was great

  • 2 of 5

Location was great but the home did not provide a comfort feeling. We stay at VRBO 2twice a year. We have used VRBO for many years. This was disappointing. We were ask to bring wash clothes and toilet paper, WEIRD!!! You were instructed to open the windows and turn on fan to cook afraid of smoke alarm -fire department would come. You were given 2 rolls of toilet paper. Instructions on how to flush afraid of stopping up the stool. Some special water system! If you stopped it up and a plumber came out it was your expense. I got the stomach bug so I was very scared of the flushing system. Had the feeling of being treated like children instead of adults. Requested we bring our own toiletry items which is no big deal but 99% of the homes furnish. Most homes also have salt/pepper.

Owner's Response: We rent self catering rental homes and what we provide is all stated in our online terms and conditions which must be accepted by the guest as part of the reservation process. Our properties are fully equipped and we provide one bath towel and one hand towel per guest staying plus some spares. We do not provide face cloths because too many tines we have found them used by guests for other purposes such as cleaning their shoes. In fact, most hotels no longer provide face clothes either. We provide a stater pack of items got guests use such as two full toilet rolls in each bathroom and a roll of kitchen towel in the kitchen plus tri trash bags etc. Once again I shall state "We provide the guest a self catering vacation rental home" we are not a hotel or B & B whereby these items would be provided throughout somebody's stay! Yes, in our basement toilets we have Saniflow Macerator pumps that grind and pump the human waste to the septic tanks. We have to put a notice by the toilet to inform guests not to put any foreign matter down the toilet other than human waste as we have experienced guests flushing down the toilet all manner of things that have caused a blockage such as baby wipes or diapers, sanitary towels, condoms etc. How else are we supposed to inform guests unless we put up a notice to inform guests? We have never in over 15 years charged a guest for causing a blockage though! As for salt and pepper ? All of our homes are provided with salt and pepper mills but we do not provide salt and pepper or any other kind of food stuff for our guests to use as we don't know what the previous guests may have done to anything they leave behind ! Yes, there are very malicious people in this world who do all kinds of bad things ! As for your own personal toiletries. We do not supply anything other than liquid hand soaps and cleaning materials in our self catering rental homes. As for renting with VRBO, they are only a rental agency and some owners provide more to their guests at greater cost and some owners do not at lower cost. We offer quality vacation rentals at an affordable price that are clean and well equipped. Thank you for your review which, from an owners point of view is quite intriguing to read how some guests simply do not understand the concept of a vacation home rental v a fully serviced and provided Hotel!

Girl's getaway

  • 4 of 5

7 of us stayed at Cayuga Cottage for a girl's weekend getaway wine tour. Upon arrival we found the accommodations in order. Our only difficulty was that we arrived at night and it was difficult to navigate the property to clearly identify the cottage.

The heat was on when we arrived and the house was clean. The beds were comfortable and we had all of the necessary items (towels, toilet paper, fully stocked kitchen) to meet our needs.

One recommendation is that if you enjoy wine and would like to enjoy wine from a proper glass, bring your own as they are not provided.

We were not in the cottage much as we were gone most of the day on Saturday on a wine tour and left early Sunday morning. The time we spent there was very comfortable. I would most certainly recommend staying there.

Owner's Response: Jane and I are so grateful for you posting such a positive review of Cobtree and look forward to your next stay with. Please remembert at we do offer a returnig guest discount as well! You are quite correct that it gets very dark and very quite at Cobtree late at night but is beautiful when the full moon comes over the lake on a clear night. Simply breathless. Although each of our homes do have a name and number plaque by the door and there is also a site plan on our own web site showing the locations of all of our properties, it can take a couple of minutes to locate your property when it is pitch black outside. Jane and I are perplexe3d about the wine glasses though. All of our homes are fully equipped and all have long stem wine glasses in one of the cupboards. My only guess is that you must have looked for them in the wrong one. I did go and check the property this afternoon and wine glasses were there. 12 of them in fact. Anyway, hope to see you again soon.

Bringing in the New Year at Cobtree

  • 5 of 5

Just back from another great stay at Cobtree. We stayed in the Keuka Cottage and everything was perfect!. So quiet and peaceful. The cottage was spotless! Beds are so comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. Our Lab had a great time, especially meeting other doggie "guests". We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Patricia for your kind and generous review. We try hard to be one of the best vacation rental resort destinations although sadly, as is human nature, we cannot always get this right 100% of the time. On this occassion we are pleased that you were satisfied with your accommodations and the service that we do provide here at Cobtree

Hemlock Log House

  • 5 of 5

Description provided was accurate and excellent. The photos did match the write up on line. Property was clean and well maintained, the owners were friendly and cooperative, there were extra propane tanks for the barbie, and would recommend these units for self catering. Only issue with Hemlock was loud pump noise under the first floor at night but we managed. Beds were super comfortable, clean and well provided. We did not know that pets frequent the homes as this has been an issue previously in rentals. We would most definitely stay here again in the future if the need arose.

Car: necessary

Just 4-½ hours North West from New York City and 1-½ hours South East from Buffalo on the US-Canadian border by road, you will discover the idyllic Finger Lakes Region.

In a setting of 9000 square miles, there are 11 Lakes and over 1000 waterfalls and numerous gorges, which were formed at the end of the ice age when tremendous grinding pressures gouged enormous holes in the land forming what is now the Finger Lakes region of “Up State New York”.

These amazing Lakes range from 3 miles (5km) to 40 miles (64km) in length and from 30 feet (10m) to over 632 feet (194m) in depth!

Native American Legend says that the Fingers Lakes were the impression left behind by the creator when he reached down to bless the land. Whatever the truth, the Finger Lakes are a wonderful place to Escape to, to “Just get away” and where you can relax and do either very little or do a lot. To explore the many exciting places dotted around the region and to have that perfect vacation.
