Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

This 3 bedroom 2 bath Cape style house has an open living-kitchen-dining area, one bedroom and bath on first floor, and 2 bedrooms with skylights separated by a landing and a shared bath with tub on second floor. The amazing part of this adorable house is the light! Light pours in from every angle/every window and the newly constructed entrance with cathedral ceiling even has three windows in it to maximize light.

The living room has new chairs and couch, a flat screen TV and DVD and CD player, and WIFI is available (other than on your phone) at a cost. Cell phones and smart phones work reliably in this home! Art galore. Never a mildew smell! Updated appliances within past few years. Includes d/w in kitchen and all appliances, as well as w/d in the full basement. All flooring is oak, and bedrooms are carpeted with additional Mexican throw rugs.

A long oyster/clam shell driveway (about 100 feet) between mature trees allows for privacy and peacefulness with the house not visible from the road. On the side of the house is a wood-burning, beautiful sauna - easy access. In summer and spring the property has flowered trees, bushes and flowers. The property is set on a 1/2 acre and is surrounded by mature trees, flowering bushes and backed by a forested area. A wood deck off the kitchen is accessed by sliding glass doors. Very private, peaceful, relaxing setting.

The house has always had one owner and a few renters in 2013 It was built in the mid-90's with some renovations in 2010 and more in 2012. This is a lovely, well kept, well-loved house that would be perfect for a couple or a small family or good friends. ...Well stocked, art filled, interesting throw rugs. Tidy and easy upkeep. A delightful place to hang out in or just use as a home base for island adventures.

On a peaceful street and an easy walk or bike to Eastville Beach on the Sound. Across the street from the Lagoon- warm, shallow, good for little kids. The bike path is right in front of the house! We are located mid way between Oak Bluffs Center and Vineyard Haven, a mile+ in either direction. Easy to walk, bike or bus to the towns and all the fabulous beaches and sites on the island. Great central location!

About Jill Herbert

New Yorker fell in love with the vineyard years ago as a visitor and renter.

Jill Herbert purchased this house in 2011

Why Jill Herbert chose Martha's Vineyard

Having looked at many homes which had the 3BR, 2BA configuration I needed through a number of years, I fell in love with the long lovely oyster-shell driveway nestled between full trees, especially the gigantic holly tree at the end of the driveway. House was tidy and contained and as I walked through the light filled rooms to the deck and amazing vegetable garden in the large yard, I said 'this is MY house.' and so it was

What makes this house unique

It was the light! the ease and dollhouse quality of what seemed like a perfect 'no project' house for me and for my grown kids. And the piece de resistance was the totally charming stand-alone sauna at a tiny distance from the house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for all of the notes and suggestions. We had a nice time in MV at your house. I believe we left things as we found them, though I didn't have time to get to the dump on Monday before leaving, and I believe I may have left some garbage in the barrel. Your plants got plenty of water as we seemed to get rain nearly every other day.

When we went to Aquinnah we stopped at Homeport ($10 Lobster roll back door special) in Menemsha. I recommend that for you and your future guests. Also good was Artcliff's food truck on the weekends.

Thanks for all your recommendations--they all worked out. We used some plastic cups, but left some plasticware and paper goods behind. If you're like me, washing dishes on vacation is not the move.

You have the best reclining beach chairs, by the way. Very useful during my time on State Beach.

We had a great time--even with the spiders.

Lovely home - convenient to everything

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean, attractive and well stocked. Lots of trees, landscaping and nice backyard - bikes on site. Owner very gracious. Quiet and secluded yet located on a road that puts you on your way to wherever you want to go whether by car, bike or on foot.

Great Rental!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have rented this home in July 2015 and July 2016 for a girls trip, and could not have asked for a better place to stay. The house is set back from the road so there is plenty of privacy, it is well-kept, and the space is very functional. The home is very airy and filled with light. The location is perfect, and is an easy drive or bike ride to downtown OB, Vineyard Haven or Edgartown. The owner is very responsive and wonderful to work with - she was also kind enough to forward along information regarding fun events happening on the island during our stay. I've rented other homes on Martha's Vineyard, and this house has been our favorite - there is plenty of space (which is saying a lot for 4 ladies!), it's comfortable, and the location can't be beat. I hope to come back again soon!

Great Summer Stay

  • 4 of 5

This was my family's second stay at this beautiful home that is at once in the middle of things and tucked away. It is close to the summer hustle in Oak Bluffs, but with a secluded, set back feel.

The place was clean, comfortable and contained all the basics we needed. While we didn't use the sauna, we went to the beach nearly every day and spent afternoons on the deck. The owner's home looks better in person than the photos and was plenty of space for the two families that shared the week together.

The owner is high touch with tips and suggestions for house and island activities and has been great to do business with.

I look forward to another visit to the Land Between the currents.

Fabulous Family-friendly Home

  • 5 of 5

My family, including two kids aged 8 and 11, had a wonderful week at this bright and airy, comfortable and charming home. The kids loved walking and biking to the beach or to Vineyard Haven for ice cream. We sat out on the patio where the only sounds were the many birds and the kids could sample the lettuce and herbs already growing in the garden.

The furnishings were comfortable and a bit exotic, with eye-catching art and folksy Mexican rugs. If anything, this adorable property was better than its photos! It smelled good and it was perfectly clean. Everything worked well.

The location was great, just a few minutes to Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. We were glad to see that the house was well off the road for safety issues with children. Most of our day was spent outdoors and we often grilled at night. We had a great time!

I think this house is perfect! Hoping to return next year!
