Our home is 5 miles from Winthrop, yet is very private and has one of the best views in the valley. It sits on 20 acres and is bordered by public land which contains endless miles of hiking and biking trails. You will enjoy our large deck with sunset views of Pearrygin and Davis Lakes and the Sawtooth Mountains. In the evening roast marshmallows over the outdoor fireplace and listen to the coyotes. In the Winter months it is a wonderland with cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and sledding right out the front door. Loup-Loup Ski Bowl is a 30 minute drive away. The house includes a fully stocked kitchen, hot-tub, ping pong and bumper pool tables and lots of games. What it doesn’t have is a TV because we like to “unplug” when we are enjoying our home, however we do offer wireless Internet.
We are a family of four from Seattle and venture to our home in the Methow whenever possible. However, since our daughters are getting older with more demanding school and sports schedules our weekends in Winthrop are sadly few and far between.
Megan Dahl purchased this house in 2005
We love going to our Methow home to 'unplug' from our busy lives in Seattle. Our home is very private with easy access to hiking and biking trails, yet it is only a few minutes from the charming towns of Winthrop and Twisp.
Location, views, games galore, hammock for lounging, lawn for soccer/Frisbee, lots of wildlife, quality family/friend time, hiking, biking, climbing, adventures, great floor plan, big deck, loads of fun!
I can't add much to what other reviewers have already said. This is a spacious, clean house a short drive up into the hills from the town of Winthrop. The views are indeed stunning; on a clear day, you can see many of the peaks in the North Cascades to the west and north, and occasionally you get an "above the clouds" feeling when the valley below is blanketed in fog. The house is secluded and quiet, but close enough to town (and close enough to other houses along the ridge) that you don't feel completely isolated. Fantastic stargazing at night. Thanks for a fun vacation experience!
What a view! Hard to describe the immediate sense of peace upon arrival. Great home, well stocked, owner communicates quickly and is delightful to deal with. Looking forward to returning again!
This is the second year in a row we've stayed here. We're two families, each with a young child, and it's the perfect space for both parents and kids to have a great time. The views, hot tub, and large open main room is perfect for the parents to know their kids are safe and still have a great time...and the kids loved the open space to roam around, while being able to retreat to "their side of the house" for quiet time. Such a comfortable stay, and a very reasonable drive to anywhere you want to be. The owner was extremely responsive to the minimal questions we had, and the place was very clean and well-maintained. We'll be back a third time!
The main reason we rented this home was for the fantastic view from the back porch. It exceeded our expectations. My family of 4 (children ages 19 and 15) stayed here for a week in July. The home offered a relaxing place to return after our day hikes in the Cascades. We enjoyed cooking in the well stocked kitchen, grilling steaks as the sunset on the back porch, and relaxing in the hot tub after a day of hiking. The home offers extreme privacy but you are still 10 minutes from Winthrop and 30 minutes from most of the trails in the Cascades National Park.
Beautiful area made better by a well appointed home. The house definitely added to the enjoyment of the Methow.
Our stay at this home was fabulous. The most beautiful setting and vistas. Exceptionally well maintained and cared for home. Not one negative thing to say. In fact we have already booked stay for 2015 and will be another long weekend soon.
The Methow Valley is the gateway to North Cascades National Park and boasts one of the largest mountain-bike and Nordic trail systems in the country. The valley is a recreational paradise. Nearby activities include, hiking, biking (road and mountain), climbing, golf, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, fly fishing, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding and much more. The nearby town of Winthrop is like a step back in time. Walk down the wooden sidewalks of Main Street for a taste of the old west while visiting charming boutiques, galleries and restaurants.
