Overview

About the property

2Bd-2Ba Historic Coastal Cottage

Come on in and leave your worries behind because you will feel relaxed as soon as you enter. The house has over 40 windows for plenty of natural light and shades if your not ready for the sunshine yet. Upstairs, enjoy a glass of wine on the patio or go inside where you won't find any drywall, only tons of heart pine with a lil oak and driftwood here and there, and take a jacuzzi bath in the upstairs bathroom. There are 10ft ceilings and 2 fireplaces upstairs with a full kitchen, formal dining room ,formal living room, formal entry room and 2 sitting areas with great views. This house has tons of antiques along with a lot of my own personal touches. I have a Landline, Wireless and Satellite TV (just in case you still want to stay in touch with the rest of the world) also books, DVDS and boardgames if you have any free time upstairs. As you go down the original inside staircase you will find the master bedroom which has 2 fireplaces and the 2nd spacious bedroom and bathroom and a sitting/sun room. I have front loader Bosch washer and dryer just in case you feel like keeping up with dirty laundry while in town? And of course I am an animal lover!! So please feel free to bring your furry family members too!! Lets just try to make them mind their manners ;) There is a huge fenced in back yard with a gas BBQ grill, picnic table and extra chairs. Should there be a cool night or two, I also have a burn pit for the perfect s'mores. The property is settled on a charming corner lot with plenty of room for parking, just don't hit one of the pecan trees and take care when your around the magnolia tree. It came in a coffee-can from Birmingham AL, compliments of my 4th grade teacher that taught me at St.Marys Elementary School which is right up the road. The house is located in the historic district and is within walking distance to the waterfront area which is where the ferry is located for Cumberland along with shopping restaurants and bars. I generally have a few bikes and fishing rods laying around the house but I can't guarantee one of my neighbors or friends didn't barrow them so please feel free to bring your own. The house is fully equipped so just bring some clothes and a toothbrush and your ready to go:D

Adorable and clean

  • 5 of 5

The Oliver House is one of the cutest and unique places we have rented thru VRBO. If you're planning on visiting the St Mary's area I highly recommend!

We enjoyed a few bike rides (bikes provided) to the quaint historic downtown for coffee, ice cream and boutique shopping!

Comfortable and beautifully decorated with art & antiques in the perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at The Oliver House to find the home very clean and nicely appointed with antiques and beautiful artwork. The interior architectural character was insightful into the time of the cottages construction. We thought the beadboard and hardwoods were beautiful and the central chimney with 4 fireplaces, 2 up and 2 down were interesting and unique. At first we were a bit nervous about our children 12 and under possibly breaking some of the magnificent artful decorations or antiques but we found they too were enchanted by them. We enjoyed eating with the kids in the formal dining room which was a special treat for them to "eat fancy". They also developed an unexpected appreciation for the art work displayed around the cottage. We also took our 50 lb blue heeler who enjoyed chasing lizards and squirrels in the fenced in back yard. This cottage had absolutely everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. It was extremely clean. The location was perfect for exploring historic St. Mary's. I honestly could go on and on about all the wonderful things about this cottage and St. Mary's. We loved it!

The house is so adorable ... and comfortable. The decor is cool... and you have everything you need... great place to ride the bikes that are there. The beds are comfy and the AC is cold. We will definitely stay again! St Mary's is a great little town with a beautiful waterfront and good restaurants.

1916 Meets Modern Convenience & Comfort.

  • 5 of 5

What we liked most about this comfortable home was the beautiful decor. Tasteful combo of keeping a lot of the furniture in synch w/ the style & period of the house yet not overlooking modern conveniences. Things that one hopes to find newer & modern such as bathrooms, kitchen, beds & more were without compromising the feel that you are in a home from 1916. Very impressed with how our host Ashley made the combo work so well. Loved the artwork & mermaids that were everywhere (we counted over 40!) Kitchen has every appliance & tool anyone would need to cook & serve a complete family meal. Another reviewer mentioned the narrow indoor winding staircase & gave this home 4 stars because of that. Thought that ridiculous to lower the rating because these stairs are mentioned in listing & there is even a clear picture of them. I will agree that they can be a bit tricky if one is older or disabled such as my husband who has a non-flexing ankle. He managed by using the outdoor stairs which are sturdy w/ good railing (see pic) when going floor to floor. I believe the winding stair case is original & home wouldn't be the same without them, part of the charm! When at home, we spent our time on the comfy porch. Convenient to have one of two full bathrooms, TV, kitchen & comfy lounging area right inside. Went downstairs only to sleep. We also enjoyed riding bikes around the quaint neighborhood & the friendly neighbors. Our host was always quick to respond before & during stay when we had questions. 5 star stay for sure. I grew up in this small fishing hole town and always had a blast without anything but my ole beach cruiser. You can take a ride around town, go either way out of the driveway and your sure to end up at a boat ramp just in time for a lil fishing or shrimping. If that doesn't float your boat you can always jump on Langs Ferry and pop over to Cumberland Island for the day. Make all of your phone calls before you arrive on the island because you probably won't get the greatest service. It is truly like stepping back in time over there. You won't find any paved roads but you will find ruins of mansions, intact mansions, wild horses, turkey, hogs and deer (keep a special eye out for the white deer) to name a few. As your walking down the sanded paths be sure to pay attention to what is under your feet, could be sharks teeth? If your looking to get off off the oak tree shaded paths and have some fun in the sun, then take a path out to the beach where you will have 18 miles of one of the quietest beaches I have ever been to. Don't be shocked if you see wild stallions running up and down the beach just appreciate their beauty. The beach is great for shelling , as the seasons change so will the shells that wash up on the shore line. October and November and normally great months to get a few extra bucks, sand dollars is the island currency according to me. When you get back to the house on the mainland, give a hello to Charlie or Larry who live across the street;) Charlie will always know whats going on around town.. and tell him I said 'Hey Charlie, I miss you and see ya soon!!
