Perfect getaway for those seeking privacy
My wife and I were looking for a stay in the Bahamas that would allow us to enjoy the Caribbean life but not overwhelm us with a crowded, tourist-filled location. Great and Little Exuma Islands were perfect for this.
The villa is located on Little Exuma Island and a bit of a drive from the airport (but worth it). It's roughly a 20 minute drive from the airport to George Town and then another 30 minutes to the villa. The road to the villa is a rough dirt/rock road so brace for a slow and bumpy ride. You can see the ocean from the porch and it's only a 2 minute walk to the Tropic of Cancer Beach. It's a long beach with gorgeous white sand and hardly any people on it. If you just want to relax in solitude, this is the beach for that.
The villa itself is clean and kept up well. There are enough pots, pans, and dishes to prepare and serve meals for 6 people. Water pressure is a bit low in the showers but the water stays hot for a nice long shower. There are plenty of towels, extra blankets, and chairs for the beach so you don't have to bring your own (although the chairs are folding canvas chairs and not the best suited for laying out on the beach). A/C worked great the entire time there. The WiFi is provided by a cellular hotspot device so not as fast as what an ISP can provide but way more reliable than the ISP there. The property manager was fantastic! He stopped by one evening (at my request) and chatted with us for a good hour; filling us in on things to do and places to eat.
For food, we stopped at the Exuma Market in George Town and picked up groceries (prepare for an expensive trip, everything is double the price due to being shipped in). Shipments come in on Mon. so Tue. is the best day to shop. There are a few places to eat within 10 minutes of the villa. We ate at Tropical Breeze and Santana's and loved them both. There's a bakery next to Santana's where you can get homemade rum cake and drench it in rum yourself. Again, prepare to spend roughly $90+ USD for a meal for 2 (including drinks). The grouper and lobster were incredible and definitely get some goombay smash to drink.
If you need something to do other than relax, we took an all-day boat tour of the Exuma Cays and had a blast. We were able to swim with sharks, sea turtles, and even pigs; food and drinks were provided. This was probably the highlight of our trip.
I would highly recommend this villa to any of my friends and hope to go back for another visit in the future.
Thank you Jamie for such a thorough review of our lovely home and your wonderful stay here! It is such a delight having splendid guests like you. We can't wait to have you return!
A piece of peace !
The house is fully equipped and the owner is available for all requests you can have.
No neighbors 200m around.
25min from GeorgeTown and 45min from airport
If available the owner can also propose you a car to rent.
You just need 150m to walk to the Tropic of Cancer beach which is wild calm and beautiful.
Very good place to stay.
You just have to like driving on dirty road for the last 500m (the price to pay to be on paradise and alone on one of the most beautiful beach of exuma)
Remember to take your Johnson's baby oil against outside bugs :-)
We decide to stay in southeast part of Exuma being aware of the 20 minutes driving needed to get Georgetown: this was not a problem for us, enjoying the beautiful and calm road from Williams town to Georgetown. The tropic of Cancer beach is worthwhile on its own and it is at walking distance (3 minutes). The surroundings of the house are incredibly wild and silent: it's not good if you like busy and crowd places !! The house has all you need to feel yourself at home. The Wifi has problems every now and then but the property manager makes available a local mobile with data traffic available at very cheap prices. Second time for us in Exuma: number 1 in the Bahamas !! Alessandro and Camilla
Close to beach
Great as to proximity of Tropic of Cancer beach. Walk down a road a few minutes and you are there. Clean and neat and basically well appointed. Nice to have beach chairs, umbrellas and beach towels!
We all became ill with food poisoning from a prepackaged noodle dish I made with water from tap. We used bottled water entire trip except for this time. As I am a nurse( albeit not very smart to use tap :(), I narrowed it down to the water in the noodles. I told manager and she said that neighborhood drinks water with no issues. Well issues there were--perhaps just this time not chlorinated properly.
The 2 a/c units did not work 5 of 9 days. I texted property manager and he came over while we were out and put towel under the unit. No note or response as to what happened and could it be used, nor any follow up. It would be my error as I did not text again--but I could see inside and outside that the units were frozen, so did feel manager could have checked this as well and or followed up.
The property is clean and kitchen could use some pans that the non stick coating is not peeling off of and some more serving/mixing bowls.
Perfect quiet Little Exuma Getaway!
Four of us stayed here for 3 peaceful nights and it was perfect for us! Everything we needed with many extra conveniences (washer/dryer, beach toys, and towels). It is very remote so a car is mandatory, and the road to get there is a bit rough—so be aware. Kamal was quick to respond through the entire process and on onsite, plus helpful when we needed it. We would all stay here again without hesitation!
Cute house stocked with everything we needed for our stay..nice to have chairs and umbrellas for the beach, and Kamal even had extra bug spray, and sunscreen in the closet. Air conditioners in all rooms were nice to cool down after day outside. Very short walk to the most beautiful beach Ive seen, and a couple days of having the beach to ourselves! Quick drive to Tropic Breeze and Santanas which are musts for eating out. Kamal was very prompt in responding and helpful with some questions I had! Would stay in this house again :)
Thank you Kristin for your great review of our home and tranquil Island. It was a absolute pleasure meeting you! we would love to have you all stay with us again in the near future!
