About Kathie West

We come to Kona every winter and have always loved staying at the Kona Riviera Villas, finally one came up for sale that we couldn't pass up - it has the best ocean view around. We've decided to share our condo with others when we are not here, so it is furnished and stocked with everything we need for our vacations, and is our home away from home.

Kathie West purchased this condo in 2013

Why Kathie West chose Kona Coast

The condo we chose has an ocean view from every window and we can hear the surf through out. It's very relaxing when we come here to unwind from our busy life back in Washington.

What makes this condo unique

We can't say it enough: location, location, location. You can't beat this one. We eat all our meals at the table on the lanai, watching the waves, we even have surfers that surf the waves within view from our lanai.

Gorgeous grounds, clean, well kept..

The condo was perfect for my husband and I. Watching the eels, turtles, manta rays and dolphins, not to mention all of the fish in the tide pools was spectacular. We ate dinner on the patio and watched the sunset every evening. The view was better than any restaurant could offer. The condo provided everything we could possibly need. We will definitely be back!

Great unit

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I had the chance to stay here for our honeymoon. I can only repeat much of the comments said prior to me. I will stress this... get the rental air conditioner! The unit (outside the air conditioned bedroom) was fairly humid. Breakfast off the lanai listening to the waves off the ocean in the morning was a great way to start off the day.

At night eels were visible in the tide pool. We watched while the other tennants fed them.

We saw no ants or cockroaches as in a previous review.

The neighbors in the villa were are very friendly and talkative., including a very happy service dog. We were able to socialize with many of them in the pool area outsidr yhe door.

We enjoyed our time at this villa. If not for the humidity in the unit (which was beyond anyone's control) I would have gave it a 5.

Great view! Easy access to town and parking.

  • 5 of 5

If you love ocean views this is the place for you. Especially at sunset. However there is no beach in front of the property, which is very common for this area . The pool was right next to the front door, great for early and late swims. Clean and well organized house.

Mostly Perfect, but a few changes would make it better.

Great location and truly ocean front! We were in Kona for scuba, and everything was easy to get to. Don't leave without going to Umeke's! The Kalua pork and poke are yum, yum, yum! The condo furnishings were beautiful, and everything we needed to enjoy our week was right there. We opted to rent the portable A/C, and so glad we did because it was very hot, and not much breeze. Only a few complaints - 1. the pool area was constantly busy, and our lanai was not a private one, but rather a passage way for two other units to pass through on the way to and from the pool. Since this is the only place to dine, it's worth noting. 2. The guest book, and the residents, encourage feeding the eels in the ocean, which anyone should know is not good practice. The eels are marine life, and very dangerous. If they are taught that people have food to give them, they are likely to someday bite someone or worse! There were a few other minor things (lukewarm shower and slow running toilet), but nothing major. We enjoyed our stay, but we didn't feed the eels. ;-) I would recommend this for adults (there are a few permanent residents, and all adults as far as we could tell), but not for honeymooners or anyone expecting a lot of privacy. You will see people coming and going, and we found the pool rarely without at least one other couple (usually more) in it.

BYOTP , non working toilet, roaches, ruined clothing from outdoor furniture,

  • 2 of 5

On the positive side the location was beautiful and ocean front, the common area grounds were clean and well kept as was the pool side furniture, the pool was very nice and the location to the village was fantastic. On the negative side from the day of check in the only toilet did not work correctly for the first 9 days of our stay. The toilet ran constantly , would not flush unless the tank lid was taken off and manually filled. We reported the problem and the first repair to the toilet and the first fix was with a paper clip and rubber band by the owners handyman, this only made the problem worse. On the second repair attempt the toilet stopped running constantly but we had to hold the handle down until the toilet completed it's flush cycle. Otherwise it wouldn't flush. The toilet appears to be very old and needed replacement. Upon arrival there was one roll of TP for our 12 night stay. We were told by the manager that "this was not a hotel and we had to provide our own supplies" per the owners." The shower water was never warm enough for a nice shower guess they wanted to keep the water bills down but the toilet didn't help that issue either. When we asked the manager about the water temp he stated that he has spoken to the owners many times and they do not want the temp adjusted. There were many ants on the lanai and we had a few large roaches in the condo that had to be dealt with. We kept all food locked up and put away thank goodness and trash emptied. The outdoor lanai furniture was in a bad state and in need of replacement. We lost a total of three shirts from staining from the rattan chairs. After that we kept towels on the chairs to prevent any more stains. We have rented a number of times through VRBO and never run into problems such as these. We cannot recommend this condo for your next vacation.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Well, you are sure right on the amazing ocean view with the ocean lapping up the side of your lanai! Can't get much closer to the water without a snorkel! :-) As far as the toilet, it was replaced only 5 years ago so it is relatively new. We depend on our handymen to fix what is necessary. And as you can see by the furnishings inside, the owners have no issue putting money into their beautiful upscale condo! Everything is working fine now and no one recommended replacing it. As far as supplies we always provide adequate supplies for your arrival. Many times it may cover the entire stay. But our intention has never been to re-supply all your supplies throughout your vacation as stated clearly in paperwork. That is why there is such a low $99 cleaning fee and guests love that! On lanai furniture, it is plastic furniture so we're not sure how plastic can "rust". It is shaped like rattan but it is plastic. So, as you can see by our feedback normally people rave about our upscale condo and we're sorry you didn't feel the same. While we try, I guess we can't please everybody all the time.

Location and Waves - Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kona Riviera Villas last week for 5 nights and enjoyed it very much. The waves are spectacular, always rolling in and cool breezes were constant as well. The unit is oceanfront and right next to the freshwater pool. We found the condo to be very well appointed and clean. We requested a portable air conditioner for the bedroom during our stay and it was perfect for sleeping. We highly recommend Kona Riviera Villas #465087 for your next visit to the Big Island.
