One Bedroom Urban Oasis Walking Distance To Work, Play And Events
Urbana is the perfect get away, right in the middle of it all. It’s located in the heart of San Diego's most thriving cultural, business and leisure districts but when you step inside the gate, you leave it all behind. The house was built in 1889 and charms visitors with original architecture that’s been completely reimagined and designed to accomodate guests with a taste for modern amenities and a contemporary aesthetic.
When you come home to the cottage from a day exploring the beaches, parks, and charming districts of San Diego, you step into an adult playground all your own. Use the gas BBQ and outdoor dining table while you enjoy the lush landscapes, raised bed gardens, bamboo fences and curving hard-scapes around you.
The kitchen offers everything you need with fully stocked cookware, new stainless steel appliances, bbq tools, dish and glassware, silverware, a full set of chef’s cookware, graters, strainers, steamers and much more. Its open layout lets you cook and chat with your guests sitting at the patio table, lounging in the loft or in the living room. The television and ipod doc are both there to entertain you while you whip up culinary creations as well.
The living space offers a marble countertop breakfast bar with leather bar chairs, a fold out contemporary queen sized sofa bed, coffee table and beautiful nail-rimmed armchair. Enjoy the large flat screen and DVD player, board games or books with your guests.
The master bedroom features a queen-sized bed with designer bedding, sitting alcove, handmade headboard, sitting chair and stool. Unpack and make yourself at home in the full sized closet. Let in the natural light with huge bay windows, or retreat and relax by closing the large french doors.
The loft is nothing but fun! Perfect for kids or a second couple or guest, it overlooks the cottage kitchen and living space. Use it as a work, sleep or play space. It has a pillowed sitting bench, queen sized mattress and bedding, and two poofs for lounging!
The cottage has black out blinds, double paned windows that shut out the city sounds, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, ceiling fans, heaters, and all new cabinetry, tile, and fixtures. We love staying here, and hope you will too!

About Marie
Our family has lived in Ramona since the 1960s, and works to refurbish homes in San Diego, hoping to breath new life into their communities. We worked together to transform this 1889 historic home into a contemporary playground for vacationers and a respite for business people. Rob is a green designer and builder who has innovated energy efficient homes in San Diego for 40 years. Deborah, his wife, has worked to design the landscape, raised bed gardens, and hard-scapes surrounding the house. I worked together with my parents to design the interiors, furnish the cottage, and make prints of my original paintings for the interiors. I have a masters degree in painting and lived in the bay area for the past ten years working with kids. We're a family of four generations of San Diego musicians, builders and artists who hope to host visitors and show them the best of what our home town has to offer. We love to travel, meet new people, and create. We hope the cottage feels like home to you.

Small but central.
This cottage is convenient to everything. It could use a good info book for the house and local area. There’s a lot of white noise from the nearby interstate and the SD airport but that didn’t bother us at night.
Great place, nice location, clean and comfortable.
Had a great time. Enjoyed the comfortable cottage with a great outdoor space. The cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything that we needed. The outdoor space is a shared space, but feels private and was wonderful. Walking distance to Balboa Park, Little Italy and a little further the Gaslamp Quarter. Would definitely stay again.
We loved staying here! My 3 kids felt so at home and relaxed here. Glad we didn't stay in a hotel.
We brought our 3 kids to San Diego for a mini vacation and we all felt so comfortable here in the cottage. It had everything we needed. The loft was really cute! Everything is modern which makes it really nice! Definitely going to come back!
Cute cottage! Excellent location.
We had a lovely stay! The cottage was exactly as described and very inviting. We really enjoyed walking to near-by Little Italy and Balboa Park. Although we needed street parking, we never found this to be a problem. If we are back in San Diego, we would definitely love to stay here again!
Great location! Very convenient for family vacation.
Great property! Highly recommended for family vacations!
Cute condo in a great location!
Condo is so close to everything in downtown San Diego. We loved drinking coffee on the patio and noise was never a problem.
Location
This incredible contemporary cottage in the city is bordered on all sides by San Diego's most famous neighborhoods. A five-minute walk to the west takes visitors to the beautiful Little Italy area of downtown San Diego. Here you can stroll through coffee shops, boutiques, bars and some of the most unique specialty shops and restaurants San Diego has to offer. Have dinner and a cocktail at el Camino, or pick up hand made pasta and imported olives from Assenti’s and bring them back to the cottage’s fully stocked kitchen to have an italian dinner at home in the garden. Walk three blocks in the opposite direction to reach Balboa Park, the Old Globe Theatre, art museums and the famous Prado restaurant. To the south, it is just minutes to the Convention Center, Gaslamp District, and Petco Park. To the north, visitors can get lost in the architecture along Banker’s Hill and in Hillcrest’s daytime boutiques and buzzing nightlife. Stroll to the nearby waterfront, visit Sea World, San Diego Marina District, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza, Symphony Hall, the embarcadero, and of course, the famous San Diego Zoo. These are all accessible by bus, car, trolley, or on foot.
