About Brent C James

I'm a physician whose main home is in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was born and raised in Idaho, down in the Snake River Valley. I have another cabin just across the river, originally built by my grandfather in 1935, that we modernized and expanded 15 years ago. I've been coming up to Mack's Inn regularly since I was a child. The cabin and the area tends to embed in one's soul. My own children are now thoroughly addicted as well.

Brent C James purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Brent C James chose Idaho

This Log Cabin is the ideal spot on the river in Island Park with a long history. Charming and rustic, it was built in the early 1935 by Stephen Richards. It has been lovingly maintained. Often people refer to this cabin as "The Queen of the River." It's something of a landmark for people floating down the North Fork from Big Springs to Mack's Inn.

What makes this cabin unique

Sitting on the front porch of this lovely log cabin and watching a mother moose and her baby in the willows, or checking on the osprey nest as the mother bird feeds her babies is magical!

Location, location!! This cabin is right on the River. It's very Peaceful. 💗

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Kids ages 16,13,10,8. The cabin is old but has a lot of charm, to wake up and have coffee on the porch and watch the sunrise, listening to the osprey fledglings call for their breakfast, to watch 100s of fish jump and break the surface of the water, kids kayaked for the first time and had a blast, easy access to Yellowstone. Close to Cafe Sabor for dinner,

During the day many rafters passed by the cabin, it was entertaining to watch them having fun in the river. Kids enjoyed sleeping on the cots above the carriage house. It was a place to decompress and relax, we did not want to leave. We hope to come back soon.

Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

We'll be back!

This was our third summer staying in this charming old cabin. It is situated right on the river, with a porch perfect for watching all the wildlife and keeping an eye on children fishing and paddling in the kayaks. Mike, the property manager was readily available for any information or concerns. Please read all my past rave reviews!

Dream come true!

  • 5 of 5

Our family has floated by this cabin for 20 years and has always been intrigued by its charm. Finally we got to stay there and enjoy the magic of this historic cabin and special setting. It really was a dream come true and exceeded our expectations. We all absolutely loved it!

Definitely a winner!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time at this wonderful cabin on the river. I took my 2 married children and their families, grandchildren age 3 to 13. They had so much fun floating and kayaking on the river, which gently flows past the back deck. We fished, watched the wildlife (moose, deer, eagles and herons). This is a perfect place for a large family with a very workable kitchen, a lovely dining room and a big table out on the deck next to a barbecue. There's firepit for roasting marshmallows and a play set for the little ones. Everything was clean and in good working condition. The property manager came by early in the trip to answer any questions and let us know he was available if we had any problems, which we didn't. Love the new floors and washer and dryer! All in all a great vacation and I hope we can come back. I can't think of a more beautiful spot and a better cabin for a family get together.
