About Christina

I am a Colorado native, who left her heart in Grand Haven, MI as a young child. I love hiking, travel, really anything that gets me outside, photography, mentoring high school and college students and time spent with family and friends.

Christina purchased this house in 2012

Why Christina chose Grand Haven

Grand Haven is my Dad's hometown and I spent time there each summer when we would take my Grandma Ruth (for whom the cottage is named) back to see family and friends. I love the sweet simplicity of life that Grand Haven has to offer! Ruth's Retreat was an idea I came up with over a year ago and have loved getting to spend more time in town during this process, re-connecting with extended family and friends along the way. Grandma Ruth as she was affectionately known to many 'adopted' grandchildren as well as her own was a woman whose home was always a welcoming place full of fellowship, laughter and fresh made goodies. It is my hope that Ruth's Retreat will embody this woman and the legacy she left.

What makes this house unique

I love the cozy feeling the home has, from curing up in the living room with a cup of coffee, or filling the large dining room that adjoins the kitchen with family and friends, or sitting on the wooden floor to play a game of checkers with my favorite little 4 year old friend. I love sitting on the deck at night and hearing the musical fountain playing down at the waterfront. The house was built in the 1920's and holds a story that we have yet to fully uncover, but I love the quirks like the fact that each radiator in the house is a different style.

Very nice house close to downtown

  • 4 of 5

Very nice house with plenty of space for a small family. Well equipped for any cooking need and plenty of linens/towels/pillows to sleep about 6. Close to downtown Grand Haven, the library and several parks. This house does have the worlds creakiest staircase.

AWESOME - Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family loved the visit. And because the story of Ruth is the exact same story for my daughter and her Mamaw it made it extra special for us.

I hope to enjoy the home on our next visit. It was perfect for taking walks down to the pier and bike riding along with just a few blocks away from shopping and eating. The neighbors were friendly as well. Great home and community. Not to mention Christine was amazing to work with. She made the process sooooo easy.

Conveniently located and great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

Ruth's Retreat had everything we needed and was very conveniently located near downtown Grand Haven. We were able to easily walk to the downtown area and there were also a couple parks close by for our kids.

The kitchen had plenty of supplies for us to prepare meals, and even had an espresso machine for a morning latte. There was a very nice dining room table right off of the kitchen for eating or doing puzzles. We also enjoyed a couple meals on the patio outside while we grilled out.

There was a nice television and DVD player for the family to unwind with a movie at the end of the day, but for the most part we spent the days on the beach, which is less than two miles away. Overall, we had a great time and really enjoyed both Ruth's Retreat and Grand Haven!

Very homely, welcoming..

  • 4 of 5

Ruth's Retreat is charming. It is pretty basic. There is only one bathroom, no dishwasher, no central AC. The upstairs "bedrooms" were a bit cramped...

My sister rented a house two doors away that had all the conveniences, bells & whistles... But everyone ended up getting together at Ruth's Retreat during the stay.. It just had this homey appeal. The dining table with benches on both sides was the place to eat, talk, & laugh.. It was a great stay, and a great week..

If you are in search of that home feel, and the basics, this is the place..

Great time at Ruth's Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time at this home. The house is very homey and very conveniently located. The house is also very clean. The library is just steps away and was a hit with my 5-year-old son. We did end up driving to the beach as that would have been quite a hike with all of our stuff, but downtown, the farmer's market and the boardwalk are all just a few blocks away and within walking distance (even with a small child). If we vacation in Grand Haven again we will look to book at Ruth's.
