Great location, beach is stunning.
We were very pleased with our accomodations and the beach was gorgeous. House was clean and the manager was very helpful. Thank you so much
Outstanding location very close to the beach! Waimanalo is a sweet spot and the property is great for small families. There's not one thing I would have changed. I will look to stay here again the next time I head to Waimanalo/Kailua area.
Thank you so much, it was our pleasure to have you stay with us. Please do not hesitate if you should ever need us in the future.
Great spot and proximity to Beach
The place is clean and the host is responsive.
The beach access is very nice. Just what we were looking for.
I have been to Hawaii many times and we wanted something that was not a resort in a touristy area. This is it. It is local and it is in an area that some find "rough" or "run down" ...it is changing though. You will see million dollar homes next to very rough and run down homes. I found it safe but not what you normally find in Kailua. Only downside is if you have kids under 4 years old the balcony and the stairs are not ideal. Other then the good location - 2 rooms and open space for living area/dining and functional kitchen is what we wanted. I would stay here again. I loved it. Just know this is not 100% touristy area. If you are worried about being away from all the touristy shops and convenience then you can find something else. We went to other areas for dinner / lunch spots and was fine.
Great stay! The location was ideal for us at the beach was yards away. The area is very residential which was nice because it was quiet and relaxing. The property itself is well maintained, we liked that there was a functioning kitchen, microwave and a fridge in the unit and a larger fridge in the garage below the unit. Washer and Dryer was a major plus for us and the property came with beach chairs, snorkeling gear and beach umbrella. AC in the bedrooms was clutch as it does get hot throughout the day. Only negative was no AC in the living room/kitchen area. Would stay again.
Enjoyed our stay!
Our family of 3 had a wonderful vacation. We enjoyed our stay in the cottage as we had access to beach chairs, umbrellas and very easy access to the beach. The cottage was just the right size for the 3 of us.
There is a full size refrigerator in the garage you can access as well as a full size washer and dryer.
The cottage is right above a garage which is utilized by the main home on the back of this property. It's not a big deal but we did have the house tenants opening and closing the garage at different times of the morning/night sometimes while our toddler was sleeping which was the only downside.
We met the property manager who answered our question about a couple items and he was very nice and helpful.
We love 'Nalo!
I like to keep it 100 on all reviews because that's what I want to find when reading reviews of others! So, let me start by saying this cottage was *almost* perfect, and I'd highly recommend it.
We don't like to stay in larger cities, so this was my second time on Oahu staying in Waimanalo. It's a lovely, quiet town to have as your home base, with easy access to Kailua and a half hour to Honolulu. The Ono Shack has really delicious fish tacos, and there's a surprisingly good vegan cafe in town as well (Ai Love Nalo). The beach is as close as advertised and is hands-down one of the most gorgeous views in the state. It rarely gets very crowded. It does seem to get more wind than the more protected bay beaches up in Kailua, so it's good for boogie boarding or body surfing. I noticed that between my last visit a few years ago and this visit there's an increase in what appears to be yellow-green algae floating on the water. This really bummed me out. The only explanation I can find from a quick Google search is possible agriculture runoff.
Regarding the cottage, let me start with the best part- these beds were incredibly comfy, and it can make such a huge difference on your vacation to get a good night's sleep! You could not ask for better beds in a rental.
Being there in March, the A/C units in the bedrooms were adequate to also cool the main room with the fan on, but I could see where they might not be in the summer.
We really appreciated having the TV options and a DVD player! We used the downstairs laundry daily, so I got my stair master workout in. I looked back at the listing and saw that it says "kitchenette" so I should have realized the kitchen was very basic. I like to cook, but only ended up making one meal here in a week stay. It has a dorm size fridge, with freezer access downstairs in the garage. And like so many rentals, it has scratched up nonstick cookware, which is toxic! An upgrade would not be a big expense for owners and really appreciated by renters like us who want to cook. A dishwasher would really be nice as well, but hey... first world problems, right? We were grateful to have a water dispenser, and used it all week (saving plastic!). Lastly, it was kind of the owners to offers several sets of snorkel gear, but they were all medium or large adult fin sizes so we were unable to use them (I wear a women's size 7 shoe).
Again, overall this place was an excellent home base. It had everything we needed. Mahalo!
This location in Waimanalo is unique from the beauty of its beach unique in all the Hawaiian islands and the peaceful feeling where the house is located , a local Hawaiian town free of Hotels but only 30-45 minutes of scenic drive to Pearl Harbor, Honolulu and Waikiki.
