Wonderful Experience!

  • 4 of 5

The Historic Hideaway Atocha is a gem! We stayed there for 3 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. As I read in other reviews - the dishes don't match and the place could use a little sprucing up, it was perfect for us--especially the pool!!! The overall cottage was very comfortable. The beds, central air conditioning and ceiling fans made nights refreshing while the pool made the hot afternoons enjoyable. We would DEFINITELY rent this cottage again.

Charming and private

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful surprise to see our cottage when we arrived! It is charming and decorated with the island feel!!! The cottage has central air, and still has the original wood floors which are beautiful. It is surrounded by wonderful greenery that adds to the feeling of privacy. The cottage was very clean and had all the necessities such as towels etc.

I hope to stay there again!!!!

Thank you to the owners and the caretakers for such a great place to stay!!!!

Cute small cabin

  • 3 of 5

The location is perfect and well within walking distance to Duval Street. Interior is descent but dated and older but functional. Everything they said would be provided was. Pool was mediocre and dirty during are entire time there and by the day we left was making an awful noise because the water was to low. Not enough lounge chairs if all three cabins on the property decided to go to the pool at the same time. Also they have a cat there that is cute but they have food on the rear porch, the morning we were leaving, very early and there were two raccoons just terrorizing the back porch and not fun in the dark walking luggage out to car. Floor in house was dirty as we like to go barefoot and within an hour the bottom of our feet we're black. So it's not bad but I wouldn't stay there again.

clean, comfortable, relaxing environment, pretty landscaping

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was cute, with the front porch facing the street and the oversized back porch, overlooking the pool. We enjoyed relaxing on both porches especially early in the morning. The pool was very nice. The cottage was comfortable and cozy. The location was great as Duval Strreet was in walking distance as was the CVS and other historical sights. We enjoyed the restaurants in the area.

Becoming an Annual Tradition

  • 5 of 5

Our family (wife and three boys) have stayed in the cabin for for a week each of the last two years. The cabin is clean, fairly spacious and has all that you need for a great stay. We particularly liked the back porch, pool, full kitchen and the washer/dryer. The cabin is centrally located making walking or biking to just about anywhere you want to go in old town a breeze. Check in and check out is a breeze, and I've found the manager is very responsive on the unlikely chance you have an issue during your stay. We plan on being back next year . . .

Charming cottage

  • 3 of 5

The cottage has a lot of potential, it is roomy and has a great back porch with a nice garden pool view. The location is convenient to walking but right in the flight path so when planes fly overhead you have to stop your conversation, or wake up from your nap, either way not ideal! Also the cottage is right on the street and probably due to its age and a lack of insulation you are able to hear every car, moped or dog walker whistling that walks by! The weather was perfect and it would have been nice to open up the bedroom French doors to the pool but there are no screen doors and with the mosquitoes and potential for Zika we had to keep the cottage closed up. As a vacation rental property owner we can see the potential in this property but did not feel it was being maintained at the level it should be for the cost.

Owner's Response: Everyday I deal with the general public, I enjoy listening to their different perspectives or expectations when they go on vacations. All of your concerns and characteristics mentioned in your review are the same ones past guests have used to explain why they had such a delightful time, i.e. roomy cottage with a great back porch and a view of the landscaping around the pool; convenient location where you can chat with the locals from the front porch, or hear them whistling while walking their dogs. Because you are in the oldest area of Key West the houses are right at the street (also part of the ambience), and, as in bygone days, ceiling fans in each room prevent mosquitos from landing on you. Past guests always shop around the island to compare costs, then book the "Down Town Cottage in Historic District" because of the rates. Regarding the noise of airplanes flying over the property, when you live on a 2mi. by 4 mi. island, every resident hears the planes that bring the tourists into Key West who contribute to our healthy economy. As I said earlier, I enjoy listening to our guests and look forward to the next ones who will contradict each other on what makes the perfect vacation.
