We were so excited to stay in this home after reviewing the photographs on the website and spending hours looking for the perfect spot. This was our 7th rental on Topsail and our 4th Annual September family get together. We found the layout of the house awkward, perhaps the elevator in the center of the house made it seem like all the rooms were boxed in. The kitchen was a disaster, the sink was stained, there was some sort of green gunk on the window behind what we think was a counter top icemaker??? Not sure why it was there as the fridge has an automatic icemaker? The wine fridge did not work, nor did the built in ice maker next to the stove. When we arrived I found serving platters on the counter, many of the cupboards had previous tenants food still in them- the inside of the cupboards had to be wiped out before we could put our food in them. The cutlery drawer was disgusting, food in the tray, some of the knives and forks dirty, a basket on the counter was full of left over plastic cutlery from takeout - soya sauce etc, clutter everywhere! But the worst part.... this beautiful ocean front view was disturbed by at least 6-8 hanging fly traps which were tacked to the openings between the kitchen and dining room and the livingroom and sun room ugh! Apparently one of these nasty fly traps had gotten stuck to the top of the trash container it was brown and gross looking. I started to organize all the cupboards but then decided as a paying guest.... I wasn't going to spend my vacation cleaning. One of the sliders off the main deck didn't lock.
The water pressure in the main level bathroom made the shower impossible to use, the hose on the deck, next to the sign instructing guests to hose off before entering the hot tub was nearly impossible to reach - had no pressure and the hose was split in many places. The cover of the hot tub is completely rotted and the plastic fell into the hot tub making the water seem dirty.
On a positive note, the master bedroom was very nice, the house could use a serious deep clean and maintenance. This is not a complaint about the cleaning crew, there is only so much they can do in a few hours. We were delighted to meet a wonderful family renting the house next to us, we love Topsail Island, this is the first time we have had a negative experience.
