About Lauren Van Riper

A family of 6, with 4 young children, we bought this cabin to share the love of the lake with friends new and old. John is a wildland firefighter for the state and I am a graphic designer. While we currently live in the Outer Banks, our hearts lie off in those magical mountains. We love to get here and just spend time as a family on the lake. Swimming, sitting or having s'mores around the campfire is just what the soul needs. This cabin is the place for us and we hope that you will find it too.

Lauren Van Riper purchased this house in 2017

Why Lauren Van Riper chose Nebo

The cabin and dock are partially shaded during the hottest part of the day and the dock and beach provide plenty of room to swim and play. This lake has the cleanest water in the state due to the mountain streams feeding it and with a large part of it in the state parks system, it's not crowded. There is great fun fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating and sunning.

What makes this house unique

The lot the home is built on is in a deeply wooded cove on a dead end street. The neighborhood is established and quiet. The lots are already built and you know that the view won't change. One of the few rentals that has a walk in beach for little kids to experience the lake. The trees partially block the house from the lake so it's like staying in a tree house. Childhood wonder abounds! Come and find your inner child again.

Family Get Together

In spite of the issues we had with the Internet our stay at Lake James was great. Finding a house that allowed us to have a dog was great. We literally could not have done the trip without the dog being allowed. The house was very comfortable and met our needs very well. This was our first trip to Lake James and hopefully it won't be our last. We will keep an eye on this house and watch for the additional upgrades from the new owners.

Owner's Response: Chris, Thank you for your kind words and being such an understanding guest. Internet is tricky in the mountains. But I am glad we got the new modem and router installed just as quick as Charter :( could. But with four generations, including the four legged furry ones under our roof, I am sure you had a wonderful time making memories at the lake. We look forward to having you again and make it a 5 star stay.

Life is pretty good!

Had a great week at this home! Great access to lake! Fun to bring tubes and float in the cove, take out the kayak, swim, jump off the dock and rent a pontoon! Perfect atmosphere for bonfire at night and right by the lake! House is clean and has lots of room! Pots, pans, and other cooking items were up to date and I feel that is hard to find at rentals! We will be back!

My family and I stayed in this charming camp. It is located in a cove with a very nice view of the lake. The lake access is just a walk down the stair way to a dock that the kids enjoyed jumping off and swimming. The camp was well maintained and clean. The kitchen is updated and well stocked with everything you would need for your stay.

Cute, clean, comfortable cabin on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed a long weekend at Lake James! Cabin was clean, had all amenities, fabulous view! A canoe was provided, we bought another & a kayak plus life jackets......Great Lake. Decking & dock great areas for gathering and watching sunrise/sunset.

Rental agents great to work with! Provided personalized service.

Concern: Steps! Due to hilly terrain, lots of steps! Getting from car to house & house to water. Seemed the norm for most properties on the lake.

Overall entire experience was A++

Will be back !!!

  • 5 of 5

We came to lake James for a long weekend, my son was getting married. The house was very clean. The kitchen had everything you need for cooking. We made s'mores every night at the fire pit. The older children stayed on the ground level, which was nice. They played video games. Everyone had their own space. There was a otter family that would come up and steal the little fish from under the floating dock. The children and adults loved setting on the dock and watching the family of otters play. The lake was beautiful, we played on our jet skis for hours and there was a canoe at the home. We would take the canoe around the banks and look for fish. We enjoyed being there so much, we called and ask to stay a extra night. I am talking with my sister to plan a trip to stay there a week or more next summer.

Where do you live?

Awesome Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a great location with wonderful neighbors. There is plenty of room for groups of family and friends to spread out and enjoy different spaces and perspectives of the house and views. We spend a lot of time on Lake James and this house is a lovely place to come home to for a weekend or a week. It's a happy place. :)
