Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom with Harbour Views

Shorewood House is a stately four bedroom home, built at the time of Canada’s Confederation (1867) by a prominent local shipwright. Its spacious rooms and elegant design reflects the optimism of Shelburne’s shipbuilding era. Located at the entrance to the Historic District, this beautiful vacation home is walking distance to the finest restaurants, the Yacht Club, the Osprey Arts Centre, the farmers market, and the renowned Shelburne Museum Complex.

Light, bright, airy and spacious, Shorewood House has an elegant, yet comfortable, atmosphere. Beautifully restored and tastefully furnished with an eclectic mix of antique furnishings and carefully chosen nautical mementos, Shorewood House is a delightful Nova Scotia vacation home that showcases the various travels of its sailing owners. It is impossible not to feel the “good vibes” emanating from this charming property.

Offering much more than a cottage; the ground floor features a large elegantly furnished living room with Apple Internet TV, an adjoining covered veranda, a spacious formal dining room, a 2 piece powder room with laundry facilities and a large modern eat-in kitchen with French doors leading out to an expansive deck with propane BBQ.

Upstairs, there are three large bedrooms and one small – two with double beds, one with a queen size bed and one with a single. There is also a four piece bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, a computer centre with high speed broadband wi-fi, and the ‘Captain’s study’ with a single pine bed and cool vintage global memorabilia.

The expansive grounds are shaded by mature indigenous trees including Cherry, Black Locust, Maple and White Ash. Comfortable lawn chairs are everywhere so you can relax and enjoy the comings and goings of the waterfront or watch the migratory birds who also call this “home”.

So grab your suitcases and head for the coast. You won’t be sorry you chose Shorewood House for your Nova Scotia vacation!

But – take care not to be too captivated by the relaxed pace of life, beautiful scenery and convenience of town living, for once you have found Shelburne – Nova Scotia’s best-undiscovered destination – you won’t want to leave!

About Maeve Wilson

We are pleased to have you visit Shelburne for a taste of the home we love. We are a family of sailors and have been cruising the East Coast of North America for the past 10 years (and 50,000 miles). Several years ago we first visited Shelburne en-route to Cape Breton and the Bras d’Or Lakes. After a rough, cold, foggy crossing from Cape Cod, Shelburne Harbour opened up to us. The fog lifted, the temperature rose and the seas abated. Once ashore, the yacht club welcomed us and it seemed everyone in town smiled and greeted us as we wandered the shops and museums of the Historic Properties. The unique waterfront reflects the roots of Atlantic Canada; its culture, its economy and its proud heritage. For us, it was love-at-first-sight.

Why Maeve Wilson chose Nova Scotia

The more we returned to Shelburne, the more we liked it; good shopping, fresh lobster, theatre, outstanding restaurants and the warmest, friendliest people anywhere. A few years later we bought this house. Shorewood is in the heart of Shelburne with access to all the amenities yet has water views from every room in the house, spacious grounds with magnificent trees and abundant bird-life. It truly has the best of everything.

Oh, we are still sailing for as much of the year as possible but whenever we can’t be on the water, you’ll find us here. We have furnished and decorated the house with mementos and souvenirs of our travels. We hope you’ll enjoy them too but will appreciate their value and delicacy. They mean a lot to us.

We hope you’ll enjoy Shorewood as much as we do and during your stay we wish you Blue skies, Fair winds,

Good times and Great friends.

Maeve & Bradd

What makes this house unique

Shorewood is located in the heart of Shelburne's renouned 'Historic District' surrounded by homes and shops from the 18th and 19th centuries. It has views of the harbour from virtually every window and within an easy stroll of fine restaurants, theatre and shopping. Festivals abound in the summer from Lobsterfest to Founders Days to the Whirligig Festival there's always something to do.

The house has been totally renovated for comfort and convenience while maintaining the ambiance of the Confederation era.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I have been to many small towns but few that I would describe as absolutely "picture book". I was amazed at the level of restoration throughout the " Old Towne". Seeing all of these beautiful old homes and buildings including the one located at 13 King street which dated back to the late 1700's and early 1800's restored to their current level of beauty and function was very pleasantly surprising. To add to the overall pleasure was the setting. The views from Dock Street of Shelburne Harbour are outstanding. Walking the streets as we did was like going back in time for me. The other thing that amazed me were the sheer number of activities available in such a small community. Adding to all of this, I found the residents of Shelburne to be very friendly, helpful and appeared very self sufficient as you would expect from a sea faring community.

Shorewood House is first rate.

  • 5 of 5

I just stayed there for a week with a couple of friends. They have provided all of the essentials that you need, and a warm inviting home that makes you feel welcome. We were there to help another friend with wedding preparations, so we greatly appreciated all of the outdoor seating options when we needed to relax. Shorewood House is definitely the best place to stay in Shelburne.
