I have worked in Canada's Northwest Territories for 40 years and have volunteered one month per year at St Jude Hospital near Vieux Fort, St Lucia for more than 30 years.
Jim Tennant purchased this villa in 2012
In 2013 we decided to buy the house in Laborie, our favorite village on the island. Laborie is not a tourist village but has local stores and restaurants. We will be spending at least 3 months of the year enjoying the climate and the people on this beautiful island in the Caribbean.
We love the garden and the panoramic views of the Caribbean. Saint Vincent is directly south and usually visible unless the weather gets hazy. There is always a breeze which keeps the temperature comfortable. The house is open and airy with large sliding glass doors onto the large patio. We have a plunge pool on the lower patio
Just across the road there is a path down to a beach, water is warm and we swim there.
There is lots to do within a short and scenic drive including wind and kite surfing, snorkeling/ diving, zip lining.
We have only good things to say about Sapphire House, and Jim Tennant (the owner) and George Lee (the manager). George met us at the airport, arranged a jeep rental for us through a private party (it was a left steering wheel Suzuki, which was easier for us to handle than a right-steering wheel car ), drove us to the house and carefully showed us where everything was, and he brought us a bottle of his AMAZING rum punch (to celebrate my birthday). We really appreciated the book that Jim put together about what to do and where to go in St. Lucia (he emailed us a pdf of the book long before our trip). We took his recommendations and he really never steered us wrong. The house is gorgeous, with a stunning view of the ocean, generous deck, well equipped kitchen, cute little swimming pool, and air-conditioned bedrooms upstairs, each with its own bathroom. It is clean and very well maintained. The house is a 3 minute walk to a nice little beach that was always empty when we were there. It is not on the resort part of the island, so when we went into the nearby village of Laborie we felt that we were experiencing real St. Lucian culture. If you rent this house, you should certainly rent a car or contract a driver (which George Lee will arrange for you), because there are only a few things to do within easy walking distance of the house and so many things to do and see that are farther away. If we returned to St Lucia, we would definitely return to Sapphire House.
I am a repeat customer at Sapphire House and must say that it keeps getting better every year. From the gracious, well maintained house to the sweeping 180 degree views encompassing the quaint fishing village of Laborie to the neighboring island of St Vincent. You could not ask for more in terms of an authentic Caribbean experience. The house manager, George Lee St Jour is a gem!! Once again he made my stay a delight with his helpful , upbeat Island attitude and kindness. His knowledge of local cuisine is unparalleled. Stay here - you will not be disappointed!
We spent 5 days and had a great experience. George Lee, the property manager, was incredibly helpful in arranging transportation for us as well as some groceries as we arrived on a holiday, and he's a great source of knowledge. He is the BEST! The owner was also prompt an thoughtful in all communications. The house is very well-equipped and comfortably furnished. Nice sea breeze. Yes, you need a car. We enjoyed Sugar Beach on the west side and recommend Tet Paul for an easy hike with great views. The only negative experience during our stay was dealing with a lot of houseflies in the kitchen for part of our stay, which we understand are a seasonal problem. Some more screens and new screens for the kitchen windows might really be helpful. Otherwise, a delightful experience. Thank you George Lee and Jim.
Amazing! We spent a week here mid-July and the house was perfect for our relaxing vacation. The view from the balcony and the rooms is spectacular. The house is well equipped, the beds comfortable and the AC quiet and cool. The evening’s spent barbecuing on the patio were perfect.
George Lee is the property manager and he is amazing. He is prompt, helpful and having worked as an educator in the area for over 30 years he knows everyone! His energy and desire make your trip perfect is wonderfully refreshing. If you have any questions about the area, activities or anything else, ask him.
The pictures are a true reflection of the property and the amazing views. The information booklet provided by the owner is up-to-date, accurate and has some great ideas.
- Rent an auto
- Hike the Gros Piton
- Spend some time talking with George Lee
The house in Laborie was fantastic! It was very well kept, both inside and out. The gardeners came frequently to maintain the yard. The view was amazing! The house is across the street from a beautiful beach, which we visited almost every day. The house is just outside Laborie, a tiny town just a five min walk from the house. We were in St.Lucia for 2 weeks. We rented a car which allowed us to do and see everything we wanted. The caretaker of the house, George Lee, is very friendly and helpful and will set you up with anything you need.he hooked us up with a car. The house worked for us because we wanted to do our own thing, we weren't interested in traveling with groups of tourists.
Sapphire House is located just West of Laborie, a local West Indian Fishing village. Although not a tourist location, many holiday activities are within a short drive including wind surfing, kite surfing, snorkeling/diving, catamaran day cruises, hiking and beaches.
Local quality dining nearby.
