About Mike and Holly DeHerrera

My wife, five kids and I love Colorado and especially enjoy hiking and exploring new places.

Mike and Holly DeHerrera purchased this house in 2002

Why Mike and Holly DeHerrera chose South Central

I grew up coming to this part of Colorado. I spent many summer nights camping in 11 mile canyon, about 15 minutes from Silent Creek. I've always loved coming to the mountains to enjoy the outdoors. Then, eleven years ago, my wife and I decided to move up to this beautiful area, making it our home year-round. Now we're excited to turn it in to a vacation rental for others to enjoy.

What makes this house unique

One of the things we fell in love with was the wildlife. We have had up to 20 deer grazing on the property and have even listened to the howls of animals at night or seen a black bear lumbering through the trees below our home. We also love the peaceful, star-filled nights as we sit out on our deck talking. When the sun goes down, often the only things we hear are the wind and an occassional fox looking for food. Not only did we fall in love with the nature up here, but we love our home. We're far enough out that it really feels like a Colorado mountain escape, but close enough to fun outdoor activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just spent a few days at this perfectly located home! It was a birthday celebration for my husband. Great home, great amenities, comfortable, clean and quiet! Plenty of wildlife too! You will love it!

Great get away location

  • 4 of 5

The pictures don't do it justice. Rustic outside, modern inside. Very clean and comfortable and plenty of space. Loved sitting on the deck and looking at the stars each night. There were deer in the yard every day and they would come right up to us! We also saw a fox walk right by the lower patio door. The location is far enough out that you feel secluded but close enough to the attractions and necessities. We had a great experience at the cabin.

Nice house in good location for the things we did.

  • 4 of 5

The house is only a few minutes from Divide, only about 15 minutes from Mueller State Park, and a bit more than a half hour from Colorado Springs. It is nice and satisfied all our requirements but it would have been nice to have access to the clothes washer and dryer. It has two bathrooms but only one shower but we made that work even with 6 people staying there for a week. We saw mule deer every day in the small back yard only feet away from the deck. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and would stay here again myself.

Quiet, nice and scenic.

  • 5 of 5

We got into town early and the owners were gracious enough to allow us to enter the cabin earlier than expected. The cabin was very clean. The location is awesome. Not too close to town but not too far away from basic necessities. Our kids loved the wild life that they were able to see daily. I'd definitely recommend this location.

Exactly as advertised, perfect for our stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin worked so well for us that we booked for a few weeks, and wound up staying for two months!

Hosts are exactly what you hope for when booking a property...quick to reply if you need them or have a question, other that that you are completely on your own so that you feel like it is you own place!

Cabin is very clean and has everything you need for your stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family and I'm sure we will be back!

We loved our experience here! From the scenery to the house everything was beautiful! It was our first time being in Colorado and it was a big change for us being from South Texas. We spent Christmas week there and had a white Christmas! We made some new friends there, the deer! They came up to us and let us take pictures with them. A lot of beautiful wildlife roaming. We did a lot of hiking and sledding. The house itself was very roomy and beautiful. Everything we needed was there. We will definitely recommended this place to our family and friends. We will be returning in the near future. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. De Herrera for such a beautiful experience.
