Lake Front Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4-6
This great two-bedroom cottage is a quiet escape from the hectic everyday world. It has all of what's needed for fresh air and relaxation, but few of the electronic distractions. In the summer, you can hear nesting loons, and enjoy the good company you've traveled with. The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and another with two singles. This Thayer Lake beachfront cottage shares 150 feet of prime frontage with its sister cottage, 'Oak' (VRBO listing 57002). Thayer Lake is a no-wake lake, perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and relaxed enjoyment of nature. There are both sunny and shady areas along the waterfront and a lakeside fire pit for making S'mores. The lake access is shallow and gradual, good for children and wading. Within one mile of the cottage are two public accesses to Torch Lake, one of Michigan's largest and certainly most beautiful sandy-bottomed lakes.

Very relaxing, beautiful with kayaks and canoe to paddle around the peaceful lake.
Very peaceful small lake with kayaks, row boats, canoe and swim raft to use. Close to Torch Lake for boating and tubing. Very clean. Did have some rain water come in the bathroom when an outside drain was blocked - the owner removed the leaves etc to fix the problem promptly.
I am so pleased you had a great visit despite the rains that week. We had 4" of rain in only a couple of hours! Plans are in the works to do some earth/landscaping this coming spring to avoid this issue in the future. We love our return renters!
Everything you need and nothing you don't
This is our favorite place for getting away from it all. The owners do a great job maintaining the cottages and providing everything you need for a great vacation. No TV, Internet, or phone, but that's one of the perks - not a drawback. Quiet, lovely, and clean. So peaceful! We would spend every day of summer here if we could.
If you like luxury accommodations, this is not for you, but if you want to spend some time in a quaint 40s-style summer resort, this is your place. Tune out the noise of the world and teach your kids some card games, make s'mores, and wake up early to fish or kayak on the lake that's right outside your door. Later, if you need some excitement you can rent a jetski on Torch, eat at the Dockside, visit a coffee shop in Bellaire (with wifi), pick cherries in Central Lake, or drive down to Traverse.
I almost don't want to leave a review because I want to keep it to myself, but that wouldn't be fair to the owners and managers, who do such a great job giving you everything you need and nothing you don't for a great fall or summer getaway.
We are so happy when folks enjoy these places for what they are, which is also what sets us apart from many of the other weekly rentals in our region. We are not trying to recreate "home" in another location. The cottages are kept in a way that is true to the cottages we visited with our families when we were kids: Clean, comfortable and conducive to people entertaining themselves in a natural setting.
Having said all of that, it is very possible we will be adding wi-fi in the future, because it is often requested and such an important means of communication and information. We hope to do it in a way that keeps the character of the cottages in tact.
Loved it! Quiet, beautiful scenery - cute little town moments away
My fiance and I were looking for a last minute getaway to do some fishing and get some r&r. Helped to be off season, but it being a now wake lake made it exceptionally quiet. The fishing was awesome - even I caught quite a few. We had a few 70-80 degree weather which was great for a dip in the lake then all the way down to 40 degrees calling for a fire in the fireplace. Also - I rate most my vacations on the terrain, scenery and amount of traffic it provides my runs... absolutely breathtaking to come over the hill on Paige to the view of Torch... Loved it!
Thanks for the review! We're glad to hear others love the area as much as we do. Hope to see you guys again this season.
These cottages were amazing! Just what we were looking for! Close to Torch Lake, Thayer Lake was great for fishing and kayaking. Owners keep them very clean and they are available if needed, but they don't bother you at all. Our family would love to make these cottages a yearly vacation.
Thanks for the great review! We enjoyed having you as guests.
Up north near-by activities include nature trails, Torch Lake access less than one mile, fun shopping in town of Alden, Short's Brewery and Shanty Creek Golf in Bellaire. Thayer Lake is a 25-minute drive to Turtle Creek Casino. Traverse City, Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Elk Rapids are within 1 hour drive.
