|Space||1,500 sq. ft.|

3 bedroom, 2 baths, newly remodeled waterfront home with great views, oysters, clams and crab. No bank waterfront with year round mooring for your boat. Great launch for stand up paddle boards and kayaks. Nearly a one acre property. There is a fireplace and adjoining dining room. The kitchen is provisioned with spices, dishes, condiments, basics for baking and cooking. There is a large deck with a gas barbecue facing the water. Young children will enjoy swimming in the bay during the summer months. Moore a boat out in front during your stay. Also the home is very close to the Port Ludlow golf course and just 20 minutes from Port Townsend.
As an avid sailor I immediately saw the value of this wonderful property. Not only did it provide year round protection for my anchored boats it also considered by many folks in the boating community as one of the most pristine bays in Puget Sound. With an acre of property there are many ways to enjoy. My favorites include fires next to the beach, stand up paddling, kayaking and enjoying the fantastic view.
Darrin Towe purchased this house in 2012
At only an hour and half away from Seattle this property is the perfect country and beach retreat. I come here when the busy city life becomes overwelming. If your a golfer the news is even better as Port Ludlow provides some great courses. Not into golf? Then how about Port Townsend? Only a short 20 minute drive to the historic city.
Having grown up in Seattle I knew first hand that there are very limited waterfront homes like this one. With a public boat launch just 500 feet away one can put their boat in and then have it in front of the house during their stay.
My husband, son and I came to the Mats Mats house with a another couple and we were all so impressed! The location couldn't be more serene, with the lawn out back sloping down to the Bay. One of the reasons this house stood out on VRBO was the eclectic decor—very comfortable and contemporary—"beach chic!" The house feels new and very well tended—nothing run down. We like to cook and found everything we needed in the kitchen, along with the bbq on the deck. We felt very spoiled in general. The bedrooms are comfortable and the master bedroom is huge and lovely. We made a lot of friends, too. Today, kayaking from the nearby dock, we met a curious seal. An adorable red squirrel paid visits while we sat by the firepit on the little beach. And blue herons are a frequent sight. I would write more but this is out last night and the salmon's on the grill, so I'll close by saying if you're planning a trip anywhere in this area, this house is quite a special find.
From the time we arrived until the minute we left the amazing waterfront surrounded us. Silence, no stress, pure peacefulness it was a magical get away. Everything about the home was perfect, the comfy beds, the cozy rugs, the unique décor, the huge deck, the deck couch, an amazing kitchen and bbq made our stay a wonderful experience to remember. The perfect get away from the hustle and bustle lives we lead everyday to a peaceful place we didn't want to ever leave!
Darrin is a gracious host and on it for any requests.
Thank you Darrin for letting us experience your amazing place.
We will be back!

The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed to prepare meals. Unfortunately, the hot tub was not in working condition which was a 'huge disappointment' for our grandkids. This was the one thing they looked forward to while on vacation, and spoke about in advance of going. It would have been nice to have Darrin call and let us know that the hot tub was not working and we would have made other arrangements. Apparently, Darrin was planning a wedding at this location and didn't have the Crochet Set or the Bocci Ball set available for our use, as he wanted the lawn to be in good order for the upcoming wedding. We didn't feel this was fair to our family - not to feel comfortable using the lawn.
The home was nice, comfortable and a lovely setting.
We stayed at the house the first of June and had a wonderful vacation! We had friends with us and we were all very comfortable. The pictures on the VRBO listing are very accurate as to how the house looks! Sitting on the porch with a view of the grass area and bay was incredible! The house met all our needs. I had read some of the other posts and we also noticed a slight odor from the sinks. We had this same thing occur when we rented a place on Bainbridge Island. I think it is just innate for the area.
The newer fire pit is beautiful! We did not get a chance to use it, but it is perfect for the property.
Darrin the owner was wonderful to work with! He is doing a lot of upgrades on the property and it is a true gem. The only thing I mentioned to him was either screens on the new windows or fans for ventilation, which he said he was working on.
I would highly recommend staying here! Beautiful scenery and peaceful. What could be better than sitting on the deck with a drink and reading a book!
Restaurants and Outings:
Cucina Pizza-we did take out twice from them!
Sung Harbor Cafe-Delicious and casual with outdoor seating. Call to confirm hours.
The Fireside Restaurant at the Port Ludlow Inn-Wonderful dinner and menu-still casual attire. You can walk around the Inn grounds afterwards.
*Port Townsend Fudge Company on Washington St. is a must!!!
**Day in Port Gamble-Super cute town and ate at the Butcher and Baker Provisions restaurant. Cute restaurant also with outdoor seating.
We arrived at dusk to discover friendly porch lights on, creating an instant feeling of warmth and care. The house itself is lovely, with unique art on the walls and mantel. There were 5 of us and everyone had plenty of room. The one level was perfect for my mom who has a cane and moves about slowly. We cooked two dinners and the kitchen was more than accommodating for preparation and cooking. The view of the bay with moored sailboats was beautiful at every point during the day and night. Gorgeous sunsets! Loved being a short drive from Port Townsend where my dad had the chance to see many small wooden boats, which he loves. This home is truly an oasis and reflects the fine character of its owner. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family, and hope to go back again for another stay!
Our family really enjoyed this Mats Mats Bay house for the weekend. It is cozy and very well stocked. Also has an awesome deck, lawn and view. House smelled a little musty when we first walked in but after a short time with windows and doors open it was just fine. A little disappointed that the hot tub wasn't working but according to owner it was broken by a previous renter, shame!! Also not sure if we just missed them but didn't find the Kayaks??
Darin is really responsive to every question and I really appreciated that. Overall Great House and super weekend.
