About Eileen Brys

Step back in time and enjoy a Pure Michigan experience when you visit Brys Estate Vineyard &Winery, an 91-acre estate on Old Mission Peninsula - reborn.

Brys Estate produces small batch, estate bottled wines and the 46-acre vineyard produces Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These estate wines have been awarded over 350 medals in International, national and state competitions.

Visitors will delight in winding past the renovated 1890's farm house, a barn transformed into a guest house, lush gardens and rolling vineyards as they make their way to the state of the art winery.

Sample award-winning wines in the elegant tasting room, enjoy a glass of wine on the outdoor deck and bridge above the vines overlooking the vineyard. Set up a private tour and tasting in the exposed brick cask room or book a stay in the private guest house.

At Brys Estate, you're encouraged to taste the estate difference!

Eileen Brys purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Eileen Brys chose Traverse City

After combing the country for property to start a vineyard and winery, the owners returned to their home state of Michigan to check out the availability of vineyard land in the Traverse City area. It was love at first sight when they saw the 91-acre dilapidated former cherry orchard and buildings. The 1890's farm house was completely renovated, the land was cleared and cover cropped to prepare it for planting grapes. During the 4 year process of planting grapes and clearing the old buildings, the owners also moved an old barn into the valley on the property as well as renovate an old tractor barn into a storybook guest cottage. In 2004 construction on the winery and tasting room began and the tasting room was open to the public in May of 2005.

What makes this cottage unique

The transformation of the guest cottage is magical. The views of the vineyards and East Grand Traverse Bay are breathtaking and the coziness of the house is unmistakable. Guests can stroll the 91 acres, the vines, the woods and enjoy nature at its best. In 2014, an Upper Deck and Bridge Above the Vines was added to the east side of the winery enabling guests to enjoy wine by the glass and cheese and charcuterie as they drink in the view of the East Grand Traverse Bay and the rolling vineyards. The Bridge Above the Vines extends out over 6 rows of vines so visitors can actually walk over the vines. NEW in June of 2016, the Secret Garden at Brys Estate - a 12-acre garden consisting of 5,000 lavender plants, strawberry and blueberry patch, herbal and perennial gardens. 1,000 square foot garden shop. Visitors will find both fresh and dried lavender bunches, hand-made lavender items for adults, kids and pets, lavender scented bath and body products, and a picnic area and play space for the kids.

One of a kind experience

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd or 4th stay in the Brys Estate Guesthouse. It is located in the vineyards next to the owner's home. While other wineries in the Traverse City area have guest accommodations, at Brys you are the only guest. The tasting rooms (opens @ 11:00 a.m.) is a short walk and the lavender garden (especially when in bloom--think July) is gorgeous.

The guesthouse easily accommodates 4 adults with a king sized be in one room and two doubles in a second bedroom. Both bedrooms and a full bath are located on the 2nd floor with a second bathroom on the first floor. The kitchen is modern, laundry onsite, and it's just a comfortable, very relaxing way to spend a few days whether you venture out to other wineries or just wander back and forth between the guesthouse and the Brys tasting room. A short distance from Brys is the Peninsula Grill and the well-stocked Peninsula Market.

Consider joining the wine club at Brys and scheduling a private wine tour. You will not regret it.

We had the most lovely stay at Brys Estate Guesthouse. The setting was idyllic: nestled between the vines and perched on a hill atop Blue Water Road with a breathtaking view of the valley and bay. It was quiet and private and felt very welcoming. The house itself is a beautifully appointed converted barn. It has everything you need to feel right at home in the kitchen, bedrooms, and living spaces. There are even beach towels and blanket in the pantry. The bathrooms were stocked with lavender products from the Secret Garden, which was a very nice touch. The winery tasting room and patio are just up the lane and we had a wonderful experience there as well. In the evenings it was so peaceful to sit in the adirondack chairs on the lawn and enjoy the vista and a nice glass of wine. We couldn't have been happier with our time at the Estate and plan to visit again in the future.

Fairy tale vacation

My wife and I went back to Brys to celebrate our anniversary. Our stay was more romantic and relaxing than we could have imagined. The staff at the winery, especially Sam, were fantastic. We look forward to taking many visits back in the future.

Awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great place, porch, location. Beautiful! Only issue was getting slammed with an extra $100 per person if more than 2 people stay, even though there are 2 bedrooms.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and we're sorry for any confusion regarding a charge for extra guests. Our basic nightly rate is for two since we have many reservations for only two guests and we do not want to penalize them by charging more for the second bedroom when they don't use it. For each additional guest there is a $40 per person per night charge. This covers the extra bed linens, towels and additional cleaning of the second bedroom and bathroom that don't get used when there are only 2 guests. We also include a daily glass of wine or wine tasting for each additional guest in that $40 charge. Hope this helps to clarify!
