Perfect hotel for the Fringe
My wife and I stayed here last year when we came to Edinburgh for the Fringe, and found it perfectly positioned for going to most of the shows -- it's on the edge of Assembly George Square and the Pleasance Dome, and a short walk to Underbelly, the Pleasance Courtyard, Summerhall, etc. (The only places it's not really great for are those on the other side of Princes Street, e.g. Charlotte Square where the book festival takes place, Assembly Rooms on George Street, The Stand comedy clubs, etc.) It's a new, clean hotel, but the rooms are rather on the tight side -- we stayed in a suite this time, and while it was nice to have a separate sitting room, it was narrower than most other hotel rooms that we've stayed in in Edinburgh over the years. The shower, toilet and sink are quite cramped, and while you can certainly work around them, you and your partner will have to take turns in visiting them. There's a nice buffet breakfast each morning, but you eat in the hotel lobby, which is either a nice novelty or a major turn-off, depending on your point of view -- it gets very busy there, as there aren't enough tables, so the morning we got something to eat there, we just took our plates back to our room and ate there. Quartermile, where the hotel is set, is a quiet area, but right on the edge of where everything happens, so it's the perfect place to retreat to for a rest, without having to move too far away from the action. There are a few restaurants closeby: we recommend Soderberg.
Great location, friendly staff
Just 2 blocks from many old town activities, a safe and easy walk. Quiet, clean, lovely and helpful staff. Nice breakfast spread. I would stay here again on my next visit.
