My husband and I were searching for a place to retire on the East coast. I grew up in Connecticut and lived in Scarborough Maine while working at Maine Medical Center many years ago. Currently we live in northern California in a small seaside town named Bolinas. We spend 3-6 wks /year at our Maine home and always wish we could stay longer. My husband is a designer/builder, inventor and writer. He grew up in southern California. I am a Nurse Practitioner for family practice and also a Nurse in labor and delivery. We met on the island of Maui nearly 25 years ago and love Maine for all of it's individuality, beauty and unique spirit.
Barbara or Lance purchased this house in 2008
I always wanted a place back east when we found this perfect cape in Brooklin and when we stood out at Naskeag Point at low tide we were sold.
The property is approximately 2 acres with gardens, a wonderful lawn, surrounded by a beautiful white pine forest. It is peaceful and quiet. The interior is decorated with local antiques, comfy couches, chairs and beds. It always feel like 'coming home' when we enter. There is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy privacy as well as entertaining in the kitchen or out the sliding doors to the lawn. The basement is very large for parking a car and storing equipment such as kayaks or bikes.
We love the access to kayaking around the nearby islands and bicycling the back roads of Brooklin. We get our lobster fresh from the boats that come in to Naskeag Point as it continues to be a working harbor. The sunsets from this point are spectacular, the setting is peaceful and quiet. Our home is decorated with local antiques, books, comfy beds, sofa and chairs.
We are in walking distance from Wooden Boat and not far from the town of Brooklin which boasts a wonderful library, a classic general store, The Brooklin Inn and The Cave as well as several boutiques for unique jewelry and gifts.
We appreciate the owners' due diligence in answering questions as we were arranging our visit, and the caretaker Sharon's obvious hard work in keeping it spotless. Very nice house, fully equipped. The location left a bit to be desired however as we ended up doing more driving/less walking than hoped. (Note: The next town over of Blue Hill is a charmer.) Many thanks for making the house available to us on short notice.
Spent a week family and friends in this charming property. House was clean, well kept, and beautifully decorated- we felt right at home! The owners are wonderful- they had many fun suggestions for things to do and see and were readily available to answer any questions we had about the house or town (above and beyond- great people!). We enjoyed sunsets at the point, local hikes, a few trips to Acdia, and some good old simple relaxation. Home is located away from any crowds, kitchen great for cooking, plenty of room in all bedrooms (and closets!) - would definitely recommend this property!
Our family enjoyed a great stay in this beautiful home! In fact, it's even more lovely "in person" than in the photos! Breezes flow through the light-filled, airy rooms, which are beautifully decorated, comfortable and immaculately clean. There's a fantastic, spacious laundry/bathroom right next to the master bedroom, and a well-equipped, open kitchen/dining area. Table and chairs are right outside the back door for dining or relaxing. The owners are lovely and friendly, provide lots of interesting info about the area and promptly answer any questions. We enjoyed walks around nearby Naskeag Point and delicious dining at the Brooklin Inn and Barncastle in Blue Hill. We highly recommend this beautiful property!
This home is clean, spacious and close to nature. While my husband enjoyed a class at the Wooden Boat School, I enjoyed peaceful quiet days watching nature and walking to the point. Deer and chipmunks wandered through the backyard as I enjoyed a lovely breeze watching through the sliding glass doors. Enjoyed driving the country roads, hiking Blue Hill, and visiting many local artist galleries.
What a fantastic house and community. My husband had wanted to go to Boat Building school for many many years. So for his 50th birthday I signed him up for two weeks of school. I invited his five siblings who came from Colorado, Texas and Florida. We also invited some great friends from Minnesota. The Minnesota couple and us stayed at this property. We loved it from the minute we walked in. It was so nice, tastefully decorated and clean. It was perfect for us. My husband and friend would walk to and from Boat School every morning. They loved their short walk everyday. My friend and I would go all over sight seeing everyday. We stopped in Brooklin every day. Our family stayed in another house down the road for one week, while we stayed for two. This house was great for inviting our guests and the school class mates over for lunch or dinner. It was so homey and nice place to hang out in the back yard. We all keep talking about what a wonderful vacation and how we were so fortunate to have a great place to stay while there. We look forward to going back to Maine and will definitely plan to stay in this lovely home again. The owners were fantastic to work with. They were very helpful in giving us local tips. We definitely recommend staying at this home, you won't be disappointed, we weren't.
We had one wonderful week during the summer in the charming place. The house is really cozy and clean. All necessaries for vacation here are provided. The owner is very kind and helpful. Also we all like the location here and we had lots of fun in Nasakeag point, fresh air, deep blue sea, clams, quiet and gorgeous sunset. We feel lucky we finally chose here instead of somewhere in Acadia island. Our vacation was full of beautiful memories.
