About Roy Elder

My partner and I live in Marin County. I am a musician as well as a QC manager. My partner does book keeping and has a teenage son. Our profile picture was taken at the New Year's Eve party at the Rio Nido Roadhouse.

Roy Elder purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Roy Elder chose Russian River

We got this place because we love to spend time up in the Russian River area. We love to canoe and hike and this location gives us that and more. We love the peaceful redwood surroundings in this location. To add to it, there is so much to do here from wine tasting to beachcombing all a short drive away.

What makes this cottage unique

It's a great community in Rio Nido. The scenery is beautiful. We love walking our dogs to the nearby dog park for some fun. In the same area is a park for the kids, a tennis court and picnic tables for gatherings. A bit further down is a miniature golf course and baskeball court that is open in the summer. Right before the river is the Rio Nido Roadhouse that offers delicious food, beer, a pool for the family and live music on the weekend. There is something for everyone within walking distance of the house!

Charming Cottage in the Redwoods!

  • 4 of 5

My two sisters and I stayed at the Rio Nido Cottage for our 2016 (3rd) Annual Sister-Time - and it was as lovely and a restorative time as we've ever spent together and it was in no small part due to our choice to stay at the cottage. A thousand year old redwood greets guests as they step through the gate to the property - words cannot express how cool that is! (Mind you, I'm judging the age of the tree from the information gathered from the information center @ Armstrong State Redwoods Natural Reserve...)

The cottage is very homey and comfortable; relaxation was easily achieved. The hot tub was enjoyed each day of our stay - though it never did reach the much desired temperature of 104 (more along the lines of low to mid-90's) - sometimes twice in a day!

We VERY much enjoyed the deck and re-enacting our long ago camping days by laying a fire in the chiminea. We were mightily tickled at how each of the three of us just HAD to have a hand in laying the fire and getting it going.

The Welcome binder has good local eats information - our first evening we ate at the Russian River Pub which was a most excellent choice! The second day we had a late lunch at the Korbel Winery Deli & Market, which was the 2nd excellent choice. Not in the welcome book, but so worth a mention, was our third day's main meal: Cape Fear in Duncan Mills on 116 West about 45 minutes towards the coast.

Getting back to the cottage: the small bedroom is quite cozy. Two of us shared the large bedroom - such a pretty room! - and though the bed was a bit slope-y towards the middle, we slept very comfortably each night. The only reason I've not given the cottage 5 stars is due to the large bedroom's ceiling being a "shared" space with the next door tenant. While said tenant is NOT noisy or overly intrusive in the least, having someone walk above us was a bit bothersome. While on vacation one never knows when the need to nap will strike!

As mentioned, the cottage is a most lovely place to stay and I recommend it quite highly! When our final day arrived, we each were so very sad to leave and wished like the dickens that we'd been able to stay an extra couple of days. We were there in the off season of mid-week in mid-October and the peace and solitude staying there afforded was a balm beyond meaure!!

Love, Love, Love this place

  • 5 of 5

It was mother and daughter's weekend to celebrate my oldest daughter turning 30. We worked our way to the cottage by stopping off at three wineries. The cottage was perfect. We had a wonderful time. It was clean, had all the amenities and nestled in the woods. Perfect surroundings. My family and I are out doors people that love nature. There were movies, games and of course a hot tub, which was what I looked forward to most. Let's not forget the kayak's, inner tube for lounging on the Russian River and chairs...ah... what a weekend. Our last night was sad, we didn't want to leave. We didn't want to go back to the bay area and all the hustle and bustle. I took tons of pictures and sent them to my husband while we were there and he was jealous. I told my honey that he would absolutely love this place. I would love to take him for a weekend get away.

The transaction and communication with Roy was top notch!! Would definitely do it again!!!

Thank you for a memorable stay!

We enjoyed our visit to Rio Nido. The area was very peaceful. The house had everything we needed. Could use a new mattress. Loved sitting on the deck every evening. Good location.

Charming forest cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This place was great! I felt like we were camping in a quaint cottage in a redwood forest! Everything was in order when we got there and we were thrilled to find that the kitchen had many spices and great dishes/pans! We would recommend this rental and would consider renting it again.
