Stunning stone house situated in the middle of a large farm in the heart of the Burren and a 10 minute walk from the charming village of Ballyvaughan. Enjoy green road walks right from your doorstep. Take in beautiful views of Galway Bay and the Burren hillsides from the sun room.
Downstairs has living room with fireplace, den/TV room with fireplace, a 'great room' featuring kitchen/dining/sun room and a bathroom. Upstairs has a master bedroom with bathroom, a 2nd bathroom, and 4 additional bedrooms.
Mary and Kurt Koehler built the house in 1999 to accommodate their family of 7 children.
Kurt Koehler purchased this chateau / country house in 1999
There were four adults staying at the house and we enjoyed it very much. We enjoyed being in a country setting with cows just across the fence. An ideal location was excellent. We rented a car and toured the west coast of Ireland seeing the Cliffs of Moher, Gallway, Castles and much more. The house was a short walk to Ballyvaughan. The home has plenty of room to roam and it would comfortably sleep several more people. It was clean as a whistle and had a kitchen that was well stocked with whatever pots and pans one might need. We didn't cook there very often because the pubs in the area had such good food. I would highly recommend staying here.
We would highly recommend this home! The house is beautiful and the location is ideal. There were 9 people in our group and the house was very comfortable for all of us. The bedrooms were spacious and the common areas downstairs were open, comfortable and never felt crowded. The kitchen was well-stocked. The sun room was our favorite room. The location is fantastic because you can walk around the Burren from the front door. It is also walking distance or a very short drive into the town of Ballyvaughan. The owners and neighbors were very hospitable and responsive. We all agreed that we want to come back and stay in this home again.
We had the pleasure of staying in this Ballyvaughan house over Spring Break. There were 4 couples, each with an infant. The house handled the group with ease and everyone had a great time. The first floor was great for large family dinners, but there was enough room to get some quiet time away as needed. Having three distinct spaces on the main floor worked out very well for our group (large kitchen/dining/sun room; living room; family room). The bedrooms upstairs were well appointed.
The house itself is a short walk (~1mile) from town. We ended up walking to town each day for groceries and supplies, or to have lunch/dinner at one of the local pubs/restaurants. It was the perfect blend of country life, while being close enough to town.
The house was also a great "home base" for our trip. We did day trips to many of the West Coast of Ireland attractions: Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, and Bunratty.
The picture in the review was taken from the front of the house, looking out towards Galway Bay. I highly recommend this house for those looking for a house to rent in County Clare.
8 of us from both the east and west coast flew to Shannon and we rented this property for 2weeks. All adults, but family friendly as well. The location was simply wonderful for exploring western Ireland, esp. Mayo, Clare, and Galway counties. We had great day trips. The farmers market in town and the Burren gourmet food 'trail' had us cooking a number of fresh meals, and the kitchen was well quipped for even us Americans. There were about 10 significantly good restaurants within a 20 km radius. We highly recommend attending The Galway Races and Galway City. The wifi is excellent and bathrooms were well appointed. TV in den was small but worked well. Enjoy a great visit and give you ur best to the herd of cows!
Our family came to Ballyvaughn for our son's wedding at the Cliffs of Moher. All of our immediate family, 4 sons, 3 wives/girlfriends, two grandchildren, my wife and I comfortably moved in the house. Everything was prepared as promised, and the house was warm, inviting, comfortable. The setting at the foot of the Burren, surrounded by cow pastures made the time relaxing and great fun. The area is peaceful, the pubs fun, the scenery beautiful. Our hosts, though not present, made us feel welcome with their helpful information and orientation to the area and activities. Cannot recommend highly enough for a full family get away.
