About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)

This classic 1970s cabin on lakefront property is located on the edge of the Mink River Estuary in a densely forested area in the Northeastern part of beautiful Door County. “The Point” at Rowley’s Bay is nestled in a remote corner of the peninsula at the confluence of the Mink River and Lake Michigan. Fishing opportunities exist along the property, which is located less than a mile from Rowley’s Bay Resort. The resort has a restaurant and bakery and can be used as a launching point for small Jon boats, wave runners, canoes, and kayaks.

Across the bay at the Schoenbrunn Nature Conservancy, there is a beautifully maintained walking path that ends at the Mink River and is paradise for birders and nature lovers. The lakefront view from the cabin includes Newport State Park and many kayakers can be seen on their way to the mouth of the river.

The cabin accommodations include a King Sized bed in the master bedroom with half bath attached, a wood burning stove, internet access (unlimited data/streaming), fully equipped kitchen with microwave, CD player with CD library, new 40 inch flatscreen television with DVD player & AppleTV, and a selection of board games, puzzles, and books. Enjoy the beautiful view and lake breezes from the deck. And if hiking is your thing, there are trails around the resort and even ones that take you to Sand Bay Town Park.

Solitude, peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

For more than 40 years, I have vacationed in Door County. Stayed in everything from tents to motels. The House on the Point at the end of the road ranks on the top of my list after recently staying for three nights in July.

As a writer, I appreciated the solitude. The only noise you'll hear is from gulls, terns, cranes - and an occasional boat or kayak - all things right and compatible in the natural world.

The deck and ample windows afforded a million dollar view.

As a dog owner I appreciated the fact the rental was dog friendly.

The home was more than comfortable, clean and had all we needed for a pleasant stay. The living room felt like home with an up north cabin feeling.

Thanks to the owners who made their home available through your service.

The setting is beautiful, the kayaking exceptional.

When we arrived we noticed the antenna was twisted around the roof, and the recycling bin was overflowing. The screen was hanging loose on the screen door, and the door ended two inches above the frame. Opening the door the cabin smelled of dog. I couldn't call and complain, as there is no cell service.

There was a microwave, but none of the dishware was microwave safe.

The place sleeps six--two twin beds, a full size bed and a fold out couch. There are only two chairs on the outside deck.

The beds were comfortable, the shower was very comfortable. The ladies stayed up until 10 the first night, and weren't excited to watch the mice sneak into and out of the fireplace. We stuffed the ventilator grills with newspapers. The next day we bought mouse traps, but Sunday night the ladies were bothered by a bat.

The dehumidifier took the edge off the carpet smell, but my daughter couldn't get used to continually seeing the mice.

My son and I enjoyed the kayaking, but the ladies left early, freaked out.

Having rented VRBO several times in the past, I was surprised by these adventures. This place just wasn't ready for renting.

Owner's Response: We're glad to hear this reviewer found the setting beautiful and the kayaking excellent, and sorry to hear about problems with mice. We did address a bat problem there in June 2013 and have a one-year guarantee of bat-proofing from the bat man, whom we are calling back to the property and could have called back immediately upon this reviewer's complaint, had he made one. AT&T cell service is generally poor throughout Door County, but usually can be found in town, which is just a few minutes drive from this property. Additionally, our office is just a 15 minute drive from this property and since this reviewer stayed for a week, it should have been easy for him to come into our office during hours to let us know of the problems his group experienced. We have addressed the mouse problem since this reviewer's stay and there is no evidence of mice at the property at this time. We have recommended weekly trash pick up to the owner in the past, but this season was on an on-call basis and could have been picked up during their stay if, again, had they notified us. We have recommended to the owner to have the carpets professionally cleaned prior to the 2014 season and will ensure that it is taken care of. There are more ways than one to notify this company of any problems that arise, and we would have been more than willing to address these issues during the reviewer's stay had they contacted us.
