Before booking in April we inquired about dockage , etc. for bringing our boat as that was what we needed and we were told that they brought their 19 foot boat every year. Great !

However, 4 months later, 10 minutes before leaving home for our vacation, we received a phone call informing us that there was no dock available due to flooding back in May ? This was just brought to the owners attention?

Launching the boat a kilometre away was not a problem, but once we navigated over and located the channel for entrance to the property ( only possible with our GPS) it was quite obvious that no motorboat had made this trek in quite some time.

It was extremely difficult to maneuver the boat having to use oars rather than the motor, because of the amount of extremely thick vegetation in the whole length of waterway through the channel to get to the property. A lot of physical work was required (we are 70 and brought our daughter, son in law, disabled 42 year old son and disabled 24 year old grandson) to make the best of a difficult situation, and get the boat to the lake and back to the cottage every time we went for a boat ride and fishing.

It was obvious that no attempt to rectify the problem of the lost dock was made by the owners, as we did locate it quite easily and haphazardly constructed things for entering and leaving the boat.

The canoe was broken.

Internet was occasionally available.

Insufficient amount of dishwear, glasses and cutlery for 6 adults, (except plates)

Needed to buy dish detergent. (3 - 95% empty containers we rinsed out)

Broken ice cube trays.

Electric coffee pot requires a half hour to brew ?

All in all an ok cottage , but a bit of TLC from the owners, is needed, and maybe a few purchases of kitchen wares from the second hand store in Picton would help greatly . We did purchase some glasses that we left for your next guests use. We were happy we brought some pans and cookware from home.

Even the 'flower garden' areas were completely overrun with weeds and undoubtedly had no attention this season before our August 26th booking.

This property did not accommodate our needs satisfactorily and most probably because of the springtime flooding problems. We should have been notified at least two months earlier of the situation and given an opportunity to cancel our booking.

We found other accommodation for next year, directly on the lake with a great view, boat launching, private dock, etc. For a little less $

we loved the cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had the cottage for 3 weeks, everything worked out just great, sandbanks was just a short 10 min drive, and when we needed anything we had a phone # for urgent items, but we used email and they got back to us overnight or the same night.

Location was only 10 to 15 min drive to the city of Picton they had everything we needed.

We would love to go back, and we will.

Exceeded Expectations

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed 7 nights and we were delighted with the house and the property. Complete privacy and tranquil outdoor space with plenty of room for our family of 6 adults plus dog! Living space was perfect, and the evening breeze cooled the ground floor bedroom with no ceiling fan. Sunsets spectacular. Encounters with swans while canoeing..magical!
