Quiet, stunning oceanview property with all the comforts of home
This was our second time staying at this property, and it is an absolute treasure. I brought all kinds of things to read, knit or craft and did none of them, as the relaxation, conversation, connection and enjoying the views and activity of the harbour filled our time in a most blissful way.
The weather was perfect, and in fact, Mayne is on water restrictions because the island weather is regularly dry, so be mindful of that. You can watch the nasty weather on Vancouver Island from the sunny deck which can be a sight in itself ;)
We have two little dogs which were able to accompany us as this property is pet friendly and fully enclosed. This made it fun for the pooches and us, as they seemed to also enjoy their freedom of indoor/outdoor play and relaxation.
There is a staircase that you can let down at low tide to the small beach shared with the ferry terminal. It is lovely, and we quite enjoyed some sunsets from that perspective.
We saw killer whales two evenings in a row, and a family of otters played on the neighbour's wharf in the evenings. If you love to take photos, this place is a haven for nature photography. Bring your tripod and binoculars, and you won't be disappointed.
The ferries that come and go are so fun to watch. After a while, you will know their destinations and schedules like a pro! It is neat to see how they coordinate their travels through active pass.
Mayne Island itself has many trails, parks and views from every direction. The outdoors person will enjoy this jewel of a place. Hike the trails or Mt. Parke to a view of the Gulf Islands , kayak, or explore the many different bays and shores. The national park's sandstone beach is a lovely place to explore. It has a lighthouse and views of the mainland and Galiano's Sturdies Bay, and will also get you up close and personal to whales if you are lucky enough to be there when they are making their way through active pass. Either way, you will be greeted by seals, herons and other birds who seem as interested in you as you are them.
There is an amazing Japanese Garden maintained by volunteers that will peace you out if you aren't already. Quite an unexpected treat and it comes with a lot of history.
There is an exquisite bakery and a well stocked grocery store in town, and The Groove restaurant has tasty food and a neat atmosphere, often with live music on the weekends.
All in all, this place and this Island are definitely a favourite of ours. :)
I am so grateful to hear that tenants find my place as tranquil and wonderful as I find it to be. I am also so proud to share this place with others when I am not using it, as it should be shared.
Stunning ocean views and cozy, quaint cottage.
Fully fenced/enclosed and private yard with beautiful natural plants and landscaping. The deck facing the water is wonderful in that at any time of day, you can be sitting in sun or shade to enjoy the amazing ocean views. If it is a little too chilly, you can move into the sunroom right behind the deck where you can continue to enjoy the views from a cozy chair or couch. The whole cottage and property is so tranquil, peaceful, and has everything you could possibly need. The beds are comfortable, and the cottage is bright and tastefully decorated. Being so close to the ferry terminal, it is an easy commute and delightful treat to watch the ferry traffic dance in and out of the bay. This is truly a place of paradise. The perfect escape.
I am delighted to share my cottage, as my family rarely ever goes there, and I know whoever does come out finds it a fine place.
Great value and superb location
this cottage is outstanding. It is very quiet, private and sunny with an expansive and incredible view . The house is well maintained and equipped and has a huge deck with plush furniture and a huge sunroom. The quiet sandy beach is a bonus and also great for launching our kayaks.
Abundant wildlife including deer, eagles and killer whales.
