Casa de Perlas is a desirable 3 bedroom villa located close to the Jardin
The house continues through a covered outdoor corridor, lined with marble columns and elegant Palladian style mirrors. The mirrors reflect plantings around the solar (and gas) heated plunge pool in the private central courtyard: it is a wonderful oasis after a day of taking in the art galleries and local markets. The pool and gardens are automatically lit at night to add to the enchantment of this area of the home. Imagine yourself relaxing in the sala, listening to your favorite playlist, with a glass of wine after refreshing swim.
At the end of the corridor, you will enter the large, bright Great Room: filled with original art from the owner’s travels in Asia, very high ceilings and the highest quality furniture, it is sure to be one of your favorite areas of the home. A large marble gas fireplace anchors one wall, which divides the living area from the dining room and kitchen. The living room is intimate and comfortable and can easily accommodate large parties. All of the lights and chandeliers are on dimmers so you can create a warm and intimate atmosphere for dining, conversation, or just relaxing.
The built in surround sound system has a high end Harmon Kardon receiver which drives the satellite TV CD player, iPod accessory, Blue Ray player and the 50” plasma screen. In one of two grand custom-built armoires, there is a selection of current movies for your enjoyment while you are in the home. In the other armoire, there is a complete selection of connoisseur level glassware, elegant table linens and cocktail accessories.
The owners appreciate fine food and entertain frequently, and it shows in this spacious, fully equipped cook’s kitchen. All appliances are stainless steel: a 5-burner gas range, dishwasher, dual fridge/ice maker/freezer, and microwave. In addition, you can make use of the convenient small electrical appliances (Cusinart, immersion blender etc) All Clad pots and pans and a selection of French and German knives and a walk in pantry. All of the water in the house is drinkable and triple filtered with a UV and reverse osmosis process for safety and comfort.
Before you leave the kitchen, which enjoys glorious light all day from overhead skylights, you will notice the monitor screen for the security system. It is a fully monitored system, with screens and intercoms in the kitchen and master bedroom linked to the outside front door, so you need never open the house to strangers. (There are also programmed buttons in the master bedroom and front hall for police, fire and emergency)
The second floor is the main sleeping area of the home. The bedrooms are separated by the courtyard, which ensures complete privacy. The luxurious and elegant master bedroom is the first door on your right, and has 2 large (screened) windows overlooking the courtyard and pool. It features a hotel quality king bed, a gas fireplace, an air/heating unit, and a ceiling fan. There are 2 large closets for your use.
In the elegant, sky lit bathroom, there is a double vanity, a generous walk in marble lined shower with bench, and a separate water closet. A wonderful Oriental rug and lined custom draperies provide warmth and quiet elegance. All of our bedrooms have high thread count Italian bed linens and the bathrooms are supplied with luxurious Turkish cotton towels and pure cotton bathrobes.
At the end of the corridor is the bright and pretty second bedroom. It usually serves as the owner’s guest bedroom, and offers a hotel quality, four-poster queen bed with 2 large closets, and a large window with a built in upholstered bench for reading in the afternoon. The elegant adjoining bathroom is large and light filled: it offers a deep modern style tub (a rarity in San Miguel) with shower, double vanity and stunning custom oversized mirrors. Hair dryers and makeup mirrors are provided in both bathrooms.
The last room on this floor is the office/den/third bedroom: warm and inviting, it is a perfect place to relax with a book or compose emails to home. The den has all of the modern conveniences as you would expect in a home of this caliber: wireless modem, which serves the whole house, laser printer and the Vonage phone for free long distance calls within North America.
Snuggle into the soft leather sofa and put your feet up on the ottoman as you relax in front of the gas fireplace. The den also has the 2nd television in the house: a new 32” flat screen TV with surround sound speaker system, satellite TV and Blue Ray Player. The third bed is queen sized, and is contained in a custom armoire which the housekeeper will make up for you on request. This den/bed room shares access to the spacious bathroom.
A well-lit staircase leads to the most magical place in this very magical home: the beautiful roof top terrace. Acting as another complete living room and entertaining space, it enjoys wonderful views of the city day and night. Graced with flowering bougainvillea vines, pots of fragrant rosemary, and a prolific lemon tree, it is a heavenly place to read or just to relax.
Indeed, you will find yourself spending hours curled upon the comfortable sofa or day bed on the roof, watching the hummingbirds dart among the flowers, and perhaps planning your evening out at one of many good restaurants in San Miguel.
If you decide to cook alfresco, there is an out door kitchen with an impressive built in BBQ grill, bar fridge and copper bar sink. The outdoor dining table can seat 6 or 8. A custom antique armoire has been adapted for entertaining: it houses the stereo system that services the rooftop, wine glasses and has a marble “bar” for beverage service.
There is also a powder room on this level for your convenience. Behind the power room, there is another small terrace where the owner grows culinary herbs such as mint, rosemary and thyme that you are welcome to enjoy.
Our industrious housekeeper keeps the home sparkling 5 days a week, and is also an expert laundress. She also manages the garden and the pool so you will have nothing to do except relax and enjoy. Breakfast and/or light lunch can be provided by arrangement.
The bilingual house manager is on call to handle any issue or emergency, personal or house related. He also owns a licensed tour company, and will arrange transportation from the airports in Mexico City as well as private tours of the surrounding areas.
This home has all of the conveniences that you should expect of a house of this quality: modern plumbing and electricity, whole house water purification systems (including a water filter system in the fridge and a special dedicated triple filtered faucet at the sink) and security system.

Our gorgeous home is centrally located in the charming colonial town of San Miguel de Allende. Stores focus on regional designers and artists, and restaurants specialize in the locally grown — organic produce and livestock from surrounding farms that thrive year-round in the eternal spring climate at roughly 6,100 feet. You can truly walk everywhere from our house, or take a taxi anywhere in town for less than $3 USD.

About: Ben and I met in San Miguel de Allende in January of 2010: it was his 6th year wintering here and I was on my way through to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We fell in love and our love affair with each other and San Miguel continues. Like many other visitors to San Miguel, we came intending to rent another home, and ending up buying our dream.
Why Zona Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto., Mexico:
An American couple built Arboles 2B about 3 years ago: he is an experienced contractor and she is an artist, working here and in Taos New Mexico. This house was their fifth project here, and we naturally think that it must be the best. Every day, we see another detail, another feature, another flowering plant blooming, which makes us appreciate all of the effort and attention that they put into the project. We spent a few months in San Miguel completing the furnishings and adding artwork. Much of the artwork on the walls in the living room is from my travels in Laos, Vietnam and China. We hope to continue to add art from Mexico and our travels in Europe. We spend our summers in Oakville Ontario, sailing on our Niagara 35, called Glory, and planning our next trip here or there. We sincerely hope that you fall in love with San Miguel just as we did, and want to come back again and again. There is vibrancy and an energy here that we have not found anywhere else in world, and we love to help others discover it too.

I fell in love with Casa de Perlas the moment I reached the top of the stairs and entered the roof top sala. All around there are stunning views, and the air is filled with the fragrance from the lemon tree and the pots of flowering rosemary. Completely set up for comfort, it is a wonderfully luxurious spot to read, relax and watch the hummingbirds flit amid the vibrant bougainvillaea. Or you can entertain friends with wine and tapas as we have many times. It is the crowning glory of a truly glorious home.
