Fabulous apartment in possibly the best location in The Alps.

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,001 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Large 3 bedroom apartment to sleep 6, mountain views, WiFi, etc.

Chalet Alpweg is part of the Racers Retreat development located just outside the famous village of Wengen.

Two double bedrooms, both having their own en-suite facilities, with an additional gallery loft/bedroom.

An entrance hallway leads to stairs for the sleeping quarters, a separate cloakroom, into an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area and onward to a large balcony affording stunning views across the Lauterbrunnen valley and left toward Murren and the Jungfrau glacier. There is an additional balcony from the first bedroom, offering the same views.

The property is equipped with everything you might require for a memorable stay.

The closest chair lift is approx 200m away at the finish line of the World Cup downhill and slalom courses. This allows you to reach the three available skiing areas.

Wengen centre is a 15 minute walk along a quiet lane with stunning views as you go. A taxi service is available as are supermarket deliveries.

Winter: Local maps (incl ski areas): These are available to some extent on the website

Pre-season can have snow from mid November onward and a couple of pistes may (only may) be open, just to work those legs in gently.

Spring is significantly warmer, days are longer and there can be a great deal of snow.

The World Cup races are definitely worth seeing (here or anywhere) - simply the best skiers in the world.

For beginner skiers there is no need to miss out on the best views because there are nursery slopes up the mountain as well as in Wengen centre. These slopes are reached by train or cable car with the relevant ski pass, allowing all levels to congregate and discuss progress.

Summer: Quiet, peaceful, as energetic as you choose to make it, so many activities, often with very warm sunshine (please take care against sunstroke), marvelling at the scale of the surroundings. As in winter, no photographs will ever do it justice, so the guest's reviews can give you an idea of what to expect.

General: Please contact myself with even the smallest question. You will be offered every assistance throughout your stay. There is a very good chance that you will find your own favourite and unique aspect to this area, and at the end of the week we will unfortunately have to say goodbye, but please do return.

This is simply a fantastic area - please see the guest's reviews.

Why Andy Jones chose Lauterbrunnen

This property and location has everything - not overlooked and not overlooking anything other than scenery, away from (but close to) the village, minutes from the wilderness if that's what you choose.

The best location to lose yourself on holiday!

Plus, a limited number of early booking discounts may be available.

What makes this apartment unique

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have stayed at this apartment several times before it was advertised for general rent.

It is in perfect condition, wonderful location by the racing finishing area and chair lift and the area in general. My last conclusion was, 'Wengen is the only place to ski'.

I want to return in the summer and I am booking for winter 2011.

Fabulous apartment in possibly the best location in The Alps.
average rating of 4.888889 based on 19 reviews

Immaculate and larger than expected! Kitchen was well appointed for cooking meals at home.

We loved our stay at at the chateau and would recommend it to any family with children old enough for the walk into town (0.85 miles). The walk is beautiful and the grocery store is right there at the entrance to town across from the train station. Bikes were rented in town and provided lots of opportunities for exploring. The outdoor pool in town is fabulous and our 7 yr old daughter loved it. You can also buy lunch inexpensively at the pool. Host had excellent communication and instructions for the home.

Incredible Wengen property!

 • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 loved this incredible chalet. The bedrooms and loft were cozy and well-equipped. The master bedroom has stunning views of the valley below and there was plenty of room for us to spread out. We really enjoyed the balconies - nothing better than drinking coffee on that balcony!!! The chalet is a little too far from town to walk with luggage but an easy stroll for meals..... thoroughly fantastic property and we hope to be back soon!! Kitchen had everything we needed except a coffee grinder:-) Love, love, love this place - enjoy it!!

Nice House with a Spectacular View

 • 5 of 5

I've been going to Wengen for over twenty years and I've always stayed in hotels. Upon recommendation, I stayed at Property 468518. It was fun to live like a local! The walk to the property is around 15 minutes and offers some of the most beautiful views on earth. The house is clean and the area is very quiet. The owner has made it very convenient to "check-in and out" of the house and it's easy to find. Everything is available for you to have a "home away from home" while on holiday. Most of the locals speak English so there are very few language barriers. Nothing to fear!

If you live in a city the first thing you will notice at Chalet Alpweg, aside from the view, is the stillness. It's a perfect place to 'unplug' from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The house is roomy enough for six people so you will not feel crowded if you bring your family or friends and the rooms offer privacy so it is quite a comfortable setting. The residence is close to ski-lifts and the skiing is some of the best in the world. In the summer you can hike easily to surrounding vistas. After a long day it is really nice to sit on the balcony at "home" with a drink and soak in the views. Most people only dream about skiing in the Swiss Alps - go! But forewarned: you will fall in love with Wengen and find it difficult to leave. Safe Travels!!

I must admit I was blown away by the high class and quality of the apartment. Everything you require is there with amply supplied instructions. The panoramic views it affords are to die for! The owner was friendly and made himself readily available to answer any and all questions which made it easy for the first time visitor. It lies an easy 15 minute walk from the town centre which boasts a number of good restaurants and a Co op for self catering needs. Perfectly placed for walking or rail travel up into the mountains. Without a doubt a first class apartment and holiday destination, we have already booked to stay again next year!!

Fantastic Stay

 • 5 of 5

I thought Wengen was a great resort. In fact I would say it was the best I have been to and that includes: St Anton, Courchevel, Verbier etc.
The Eiger looked amazing.

We looked at Wengen, then opted for Italy, but came back here at the last minute – handled superbly by the owner despite us messing about. And lucky us that it turned out this way.

Lovely, private chalet set in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, offering all the traditional winter sports and summer activities in some of the most dramatic scenery to be found anywhere in The Alps. All abilities in all activities, are superbly catered for, with varied and interesting routes/locations.

The location is 15 minutes walk from the charming, traffic-free village of Wengen and 2 minutes from the finishing area of the 'classic', longest and often the fastest, World Cup Downhill race, The Lauberhorn.

Stunning views and quiet trails are everywhere, for all activities, next to numerous peaks, including the infamous Eiger mountain and over the valley from the delightful Murren village and Schilthorn peak (made famous by James Bond), these being other easily accessible locations.

Interlaken and Thun are nearby for further activities, shopping treats and dining.

Please note: private cars are left in Lauterbrunnen and a train taken up to Wengen.

Other Activities: Cycling, diving, fishing, wind-surfing, golf, horse riding, sailing, golf

Ski: There are only three grades of piste In this area - blue, red and black. The blues are nice 'cruisy' runs like the green gradings you might find in France and can often be summer roads.

The reds are also quite relaxing with only a few blacks. There is also plenty of off-piste skiing and some lovely tree-lined routes lower down.

A snowpark can be found at Jungfraujoch for the tricksters amongst you.

Generally the area is very easy to navigate with all slopes from Mannlichen and Kleine Scheidegg and the 'First' area heading toward Grindlewald, from where a cable car or train can bring you back up the mountain. Over on the Murren side there is plenty of great skiing and again, navigation is easy, with train or cable cars allowing you to return after the pistes have closed.

It is rare to find a big queue for any lift.

There are also great sledging runs, that require care in some places because they are fast. 10 miles long if you wish to come down from above Grindlewald.
