About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath home overlooking the waterfront with views of Mt Rainier

The Phillips House was built in 1872 and is listed on the Port Townsend Historic Register. The 2,500 sq ft home has been completely renovated, including a new kitchen. There is a master bedroom and bath downstairs and two bedrooms and a bath with a soaking tub upstairs. There is plenty of room for entertaining in the formal dining and views from the sitting room allow guests to see the sun rise over Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountains. The sitting room also looks over the Port Townsend waterfront. The library, with television, can double as an extra bedroom.

The house is ideally located in uptown Port Townsend, 2 blocks from the local bakery, grocery store and farmer’s market as well as great restaurants and the historic Uptown Theater. Downtown is a mere 3 blocks and a set of steps to the Haller Fountain – the gathering place on the Port Townsend waterfront. The Rose Theater, numerous art galleries, boutiques, cafes and fine restaurants, the marina and the center of many festivals are minutes away – by foot.

About Deborah and Stephen Moriarty

Stephen and Deborah Moriarty raised their family and live on the Olympic Peninsula. They are avid gardeners and hikers and since their children left home, historic home renovators.

Deborah and Stephen Moriarty purchased this house in 2011

Why Deborah and Stephen Moriarty chose Port Townsend

Port Townsend is a wonderful place to visit. There are always festivals and shows and many fine restaurants and cozy coffee houses. The Phillips House is a taste of the colorful history of Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula and we would like to share it with others.

What makes this house unique

The Phillips House is in uptown Port Townsend with sweeping views of Port Townsend Bay. There is nothing more wonderful then watching the sailboat races on Sundays, unless of course you are in them, or the sun rise over Mount Rainier. These are the views from the many windows overlooking the waterfront. The house was changed little, except for the addition of a workable kitchen, during the renovation. It still holds all the charm and style from the time it was built by Mr. Phillips in 1872.

Wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the month of April 2017 in this lovely craftsman style home. The home is in the perfect location to enjoy the amenities of downtown such as the Rose Theatre, shopping and waterfront and uptown delights such as the farmers market, bakery, and grocery store. The kitchen and baths are large and modern. From the living room there is a nice water view and view of the deer that come thru the yard every evening. I would stay here again!

Great Times in Port Townsend

  • 5 of 5

The Phillips House was the perfect place to call home for almost 3 months.

My husband Dave retired, and chose as his "reward" to attend the 12 week Intensive Woodworking course at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking at Fort Worden (no, this is not the boat building school, that is downtown at the Marine Center). Deborah worked with me 18 months in advance to secure the house for our visit.

While Dave attended school, I entertained and played tour guide to our many visitors from California and Northern Washington. The house had plenty of room for all of our guests., and was well appointed with all of the comforts of home. The neighborhood and neighbors were fantastic and very friendly.

We not only toured PT and Fort Worden, we also made side trips to Victoria, B.C., Lake Crescent & the Olympic National Park, La Conner, Anacortes, Bellingham, Vancouver, B.C., Granville Island, B.C. and of course a few trips into Seattle.

What is it they say, location, location, location. We couldn't have been in a better place not just for all of our sightseeing but also being located between Uptown & Downtown PT.

Some of our favorite restaurants were Alchemy Bistro & Wine Bar for delicious scallops & mussels, Tin Brick Pizza for pizza & clams (yes clams!!), The Fountain cafe for kale salmon salad & clam chowder, Hanazono Noodle House, Doc's at the Marina, Silverwater Cafe, Quench Cafe, Pane d'Amore Bakery and the Rose Theatre all within walking distance of the Phillips house! Taps at the Guardhouse at Fort Worden was also a favorite place to visit.

We were able to attend many events while we were in PT, they included the Kinetic Sculpture Race, Ladies Night Downtown PT, Farmers Market Uptown, Local High School football games, the PT tree lighting and arrival of Santa, Spirit of the Yule at the Key City Public Theatre, the PT Woodworker Show and the open house at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.

Port Townsend and the Phillips House was the perfect place to begin my husbands retirement.

Thank you for allowing us to call your beautiful home, our home for a few months.

Our Victory Lap

  • 5 of 5

A few years ago, my husband and I stumbled upon Port Townsend, which has truly become one of our favorite vacation spots. This summer we decided to celebrate our recent retirement by spending a month in this quaint seaport community. We were so glad to find the Phillips House available near the Uptown area which offers a delicious bakery, a unique market, and an array of quaint restaurants within walking distance. The nearby Saturday farmer's market was indeed a bonus!

This three bedroom home which faces Puget Sound, was a wonderful respite for us. Daily visits from the neighboring deer and watching the ferry dock several times a day, was a real treat. I enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen while my husband enjoyed hours of reading in the comfortable den. We really appreciated the availability of using the gas grill and hammock for an afternoon of leisure. An added bonus was having our fourteen year old Daschund welcomed to come with us.😊

This nineteenth century home was truly a "home away from home" for us, and we hope to return in the future.

Great way to know Port Townsend

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog, and I recently returned from a month at Philips house. Among the many memorable aspects of our stay were mornings sitting at the kitchen table (great kitchen), watching the ferry depart and return from the living room window, the friendly neighbors, and the ability to walk almost everywhere. Like a previous reviewer, our stay convinced us that Port Townsend is where we want to be. Anyone looking for a spectacular house in Taos, NM?

Perfect uptown experience!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Philips house with our two small children. It was an amazing location. Right by the yummiest bakery, which was great for a quick and special breakfast. A quick walk to downtown, an even quicker walk to uptown restaurants, coffee, and a quaint grocery store... We almost never drove for the whole month. The view was spectacular, the farmers market was a 3 min walk, the kitchen completely updated (it was a joy to cook up farmers market veggies there!) and the claw foot tub was used often. Thanks for letting us stay in this classic and comfortable home!
