About the property

4 bedroom, 2 bathroom with Panoramic Lake Michigan Views

Civil-War era Home. The parlor features warm colors, a brick candlelight fireplace with two oak rockers, that very posh pool table and a Lake Michigan vista. The dining room is adorned with an early 20th century chandelier, a glass encased curio cabinet and a table for six. Lake Michigan also beckons from the patio doors that step out onto one of the three decks. This deck has a gas grill and ample seating space. A very open (sociable) kitchen has lots of counter space, dishwasher and an authentic (still operable) art deco toaster. Full baths are on each floor. The upper bath is all new with a skylight, glass shower, and a 1927 stained-glass window made in Chicago. All four bedrooms are upstairs and are carpeted. Each features an antique dresser. The central west BR has a window A/C and a queen-sized bed; the others have full-sized mattresses. The two east side BRs have balcony access and lake vistas. The balcony has four chairs and two glass-topped bistro tables. An upper-floor sitting/reading room opens onto a deck with views east (the lake), west (the setting sun), and north (Centerville Creek). Enjoy boating, hiking, biking, picnicking and sightseeing are all freely available nearby. World-class golf courses (Whistling Straits, Black Wolf Run and others) are just minutes/miles away. There are two lakeshore parks. Hika Bay Park is one block away and the other is one mile north on Lakeshore Road Cleveland boasts three reasonably priced restaurants: 'Rupps on Washington', 'The Hickory House' and 'Wildflower'. The 'Hika Bay Union House Tavern', 50 yards west of this home, is the oldest continually licensed Pub in the state of Wisconsin. Prost!

Great Place To Stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Cleveland - very close to Sheyboygan and Manitowoc. We went to Kohler National Park which was amazing and enjoyed the beaches of Lake Michigan. If you're a golfer there are plenty of golf courses to choose from. We enjoyed combing the beach and just relaxing at the water. The house is nice and cozy and has an old feel about it since it's a Civil War House. A bit musty at first, but once we opened the windows, it was a lot better. The kids enjoyed playing pool. We enjoyed our breakfast sitting on the deck each morning.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

This House is so adorable and welcoming. We were there for just a few days of girl time, but thoroughly enjoyed it. while no beach within walking distance, we did walk down to the water for cocktails every night! We played horseshoes until we realized that we were keeping momma bird from her babies (so cute). Coffee on one of many decks in the morning, we even walked down to the tavern and were welcomed with open arms. The house is well decorated and the beds are OK for a few nights. We were shocked at how well stocked the kitchen is, Spices, pancake mix, some sugar(we left more).. Pots, pans, toaster, coffee maker, if going for more than a day or 2 I'd contact Phil so you don't haul stuff you don't need...its probably there. Theres a pool table, we didn't use, but if winter or rainy it would have been great. I could go on and on.... this is a super house.

Everything was thought of!

After multiple stays at the Hika Bay Hideaway, the place feels more like home each time. We love the hints of mirth and detailing throughout.

Relaxing Retreat

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at this rental. The only thing we would recommend for improvement is to maybe spray for some of the bugs in the house. While we expected there to be some, there seemed to be an unusual amount of ants, mosquitoes and spiders in the house. Also, make sure to bring dish soap and dishwasher detergent if you’re planning to cook much. We only had enough for 2 loads each and we were there with 8 people all week.

The house's proximity to Sheboygan and Manitowoc was ideal as it allowed us convenient access to both areas. There is a nearby school I took my 5 year old on a bike ride to in order to give him some 'Mom' time and I had some time to take a very peaceful solo bike trip into the town of Cleveland, a few miles down the road. We were pleased to find we could see 3 sets of fireworks from the dock at Hika Bay and avoid the hustle and bustle of going into town and our group of boys made thorough use of the pool table. Our group of 8 had plenty of space and great times to share at the house and surrounding areas
