About Kathy Sarkisian ~ The Cottage Concierge

We bought this cottage in 1960 after having spent summers here every year for decades. It was a dream come true for our family. 4 generations of our family have been blessed to enjoy this beautiful place.

For a few short weeks each year we share our cottage home with others that they might experience and come to love this area and our, 'Whispering Winds' as we do.

This is such a special place that many of our family members and friends now live in the area year round.

Beautiful and gracious home right on the lake

  • 5 of 5

We just had a wonderful and too short family reunion in this house and the house across the street, and could not have been happier! We fell in love instantly with the house, which is an absolute gem, and clearly has been lovingly and carefully maintained over the years. You really do feel transported to an earlier time, in the best possible way. Breezes off the lake, a long, sweet screened in porch across the entire lake side, pretty landscaping, a gorgeous view, and plenty of room for everyone to spread out. It is charming and comfortable, and full of nooks and crannies and chairs you just want to curl up in with a good book, and has a deck that is great for both sunsets and any other time of day, plus it's just a short walk to the beach and you can grab one of the several sand chairs on your way. The large frig was a terrific modern amenity, as was the large gas grill, and the kitchen was was stocked with all the utensils and bowls/glasses/etc we could need. My 85 year old mother told me she'd never been at a more beautiful location on Lake Michigan for sunsets (agreed!) , and she was able, even with her cane, to go up and down multiple times on the steps to the deck and lake. Thanks so much for a perfect stay and we will definitely be back! P.S. Kathy, the owner/agent for the house (and for the one across the street too), was a real pleasure and extremely helpful with any questions.

Weekend at the Lake

  • 5 of 5

As I walked down the ramp to Whispering Winds I felt a keen sense of anticipation and excitement and I was not disappointed. The cottage provided a welcome environment designed for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular view of Lake Michigan. Whether it is sitting in the screened porch or lazing on the lower deck Whispering Winds offers a one of a kind experience of one of the most beautiful areas of Michigan. It is truly a Pure Michigan experience!

Perfect for a beach stay, but strong mold smell

  • 3 of 5

The house is setup great for hanging out on the beach and great sunsets on the deck half way between the house and the lake. There are not too many steps to the water and that was a plus for my elderly father. The caretaker met us there and later brought a large box of blueberries which was very nice. The weather was perfect for the beach as it was in the 90's everyday. The house does not have air and most of the bedrooms are upstairs,so it was really warm at night even though we did get a nice breeze off the lake and had fans running. The one concern was the strong musty smell in the house. We had all the windows open and it still effected most in our group. People with asthma or other breathing problems might have a difficult time staying there. It took 6 weeks to get our security deposit check back, but we did, so that worked out. I did leave a pair of shorts at the home and the owner was kind enough to ship them to me free of charge. The kitchen is very small, but we made do and it was not a show stopper. Lots to do in the area and beautiful scenery.

Owner's Response: I wanted to respond to alleviate any concerns one might have regarding this guests comment regarding a musty smell. The cottage is truly spectacular, aunique and very special place with a strong on the lakeshore that simply can not be topped. Regarding the comment; we did find a leak which caused some damage and created a bit of a musty smell. The leak and damage was repaired. I addition we remediated the cottage to insure the cottage would be fresh and healthful for all. Any questions please feel free to call. Thank you

Great place to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

I loved the peace and quiet at Whispering Winds! What an apt name; the cool breezes coming off Lake Michigan kept the temperature 5 to 10 degrees cooler than just a half mile inland. The Saugatuck area has many good places to eat, but it was hard to top the great steak dinner my family enjoyed, cooked on the barbecue grill at the cottage. For those like myself, who like to burn off some of those calories with a good hike, you can take as long a walk as you like on the beach. We also enjoyed a beautiful hike in the dunes of Saugatuck State Park. If you really want some exercise, climb Mt. Baldy. There was plenty to see and do at the area's many shops and attractions, but my favorite part of the day was sitting on the deck overlooking the beach, with a cool drink in hand, and watching the sunset.

Wonderful Fall Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed in this gracious old home for a long weekend to celebrate some milestone birthdays. The home is clean, well kept, and has everything you need. In addition, it exudes a spirit of warmth and love. Weather was a bit chilly, making the fireplace the source of gathering in the evening. we loved sitting on the porch, morning coffee on the deck and just relaxing in general. We've been vacationing in this area for 15 years, and have stayed at a number of places. Whispering Winds is one of our favorites. Kathy could not be more gracious and welcoming - hope we get to return soon!

amazing location

  • 5 of 5

This home is a beautiful, well maintained, historical cottage on lake Michigan. It has an amazing beach location. It has far fewer steps to the beach than many other rentals, only minutes from Saugatuck/Douglas, immaculate landscaping, in a home that will transport you to a simpler time. Only limitation is that the kitchen is small. However, other than it's size, it is better stocked than any other rental I've ever used.

This is a historic home that has been loved for decades and you can see it in every aspect of the home. If you are looking for a classic Lake Michigan vacation, you will not be disappointed.
