Cozy old house

  • 3 of 5

Our family of 8 stayed two nights; bedrooms and bathrooms were small but comfortable. Could use a little more of cleaning up (found dirt and a pair of boots under the Master bed). You must have country life in your blood to enjoy the house and the views. This house is on a main road close to groceries and a great steak restaurant "Joe's steak house." Overall we enjoyed the stay. Peace and blessings.

average home for the price

We stayed for 3 nights in July at this cabin.

Pros:

the indoors was neat. The upper floor rooms and beds were well kept. Kitchen is well stacked with pots pans and cutlery. Plenty of room for 3 families and kids. The owner responses came within a day or 2 for the questions asked.

Cons:

We were greeted with mowed grass all over the patio. Would have appreciated that being cleaned up. There were flies in the room that we had to get rid off. The house itself is quite dated, the sofa in the living room needs some facelift. The ceiling height is low, so tall people beware. There were issues with slow flow of water in the bathtubs. The grill was not working.

Overall, Good house for multiple families but needs some updates.

Owner's Response: Hi Devi, We're glad you enjoyed the uniqueness of the turn of the century old farm house. You may not have know that the house was standing during the Civil War and a battle was fought right there on the property. Back in those times a lot of the house were smaller and more compact. I do apologize that the mowers did not clean the grass from the porch and we have addressed that with them. The grill actually does work just fine, you just need to light it with the grill lighter supplied in the kitchen. As for the water flow, we have low flow heads on all the showers and tubs to help save water from being wasted. If you would have let us know of any of these issues we would have been more than happy to correct anything we could have. Thanks again for staying with us and we hope you and all the families that stayed with you had a great time.

Lovely Home!

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with this charming farm house and happy to see some of the history in the guest book. The house was snug but this did not deter us from having 10 people inside it for a long weekend. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to be comfortable. An overlook near the edge of the property facing the river had remarkable views and the kids enjoyed romping around on the property with the dogs. The dogs especially enjoyed running around all over...something city dogs seldom get to enjoy. What a cool visit!

Owner's Response: Really glad you had a great time and enjoyed the property. You're right about the views (and sunsets) from either one of the observation decks! We look forward to having you back next Fall. Thanks again.

Getaway weekend

  • 5 of 5

This historic farmhouse is absolutely charming. Great views of the Shenandoah River and close enough to town to get groceries or go out for dinner. The hosts were very accommodating and went out of their way to please. Even going to the store to purchase items not found that we needed. If you appreciate older homes with all their charm, you will enjoy this property.
