One Of The Beat Places We Have Stayed

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I are visiting from New Zealand and stayed here for three nights. We knew we were going to love it the second we saw it's gorgeous, secluded and wooded location on a quiet road and the beautiful exterior of Don and Jean's home. The inside was immaculate and beautifully decorated and I knew I was going to very happy if for no other reason than there were stacks and stacks of National Geographic magazines. The kitchen was very well set up and supplied and lacked for nothing and I can honestly say we have never rented a holiday home that came with so many fluffy, warm towels and wash cloths. I loved being able to sit on the bench in the shower and we both loved the cleverly designed bath tub. The living room was so warm and cozy with a beautiful view of the woods - very relaxing. And we really enjoyed getting to play with Wolfie, their Siberian Husky. Don and Jean have put a lot of thought and care into this rental and they genuinely care that you really enjoy your stay and that everything is to a high standard. We also highly recommend Door County Bakery in Sister Bay, which they also own. It is a combination bakery, deli, fine foods, winery and restaurant. The food is very, very good and portions are extremely generous. I have family in Wisconsin now and will definitely plan on paying another visit the next time we come over.

A quiet, well-appointed getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two-year-old daughter, and I spent a very enjoyable week this summer at the Newport Suite.

The suite itself -- the first floor of a two-story house -- was in fine working order and well provisioned with sheets, towels, kitchen equipment, etc.

The hosts -- Don and Jean Thompson -- were very nice -- there when we needed them, but otherwise engaged in their business, the Door County Bakery.

Our daughter formed a fast friendship with the Thompson's husky puppy, Madeleine, who is very good with kids.

The location was ideal. We could -- and did -- bike to Newport State Park to spend time on Newport and Europe Bay beaches. We could easily reach the ferry to Washington Island, which makes for a fun day trip.

Recommendations: bring your bikes -- excellent biking territory -- flat terrain, not too many cars. And, bring bug spray. The bugs come out around sunset like clockwork, where ever you happen to be.

Winter Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at the Newport Suite was absolutely wonderful. Don and Jean are gracious hosts making sure that all your needs are taken care of. The size of the suite was more than adequate for my wife and I and our dog Mocha. This location offers a very quiet and peaceful experience and the proximity to Newport State Park is the added bonus. The kitchen is well stocked and they provided an exceptional coffee from their business the "Door County Bakery". The bakery is outstanding and provides some of the best artisan breads that I have tasted. Our dog had a grand time romping with their dog "Wolfie" a pure bread husky. My wife and I hope to visit again!

Amazing Fall Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My Fiance and I and another couple stayed at the Newport Suite in late October and had an amazing weekend. It was the perfect location to explore Newport State Park, Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, and the surrounding areas. The place was very nice and worked perfectly for two couples. Don was a great host who even started a great bonfire for us Saturday night at the property. We also enjoyed playing with their always energetic but loving dog.

Couldnt Ask For A Better Place To Stay

  • 5 of 5

The hosts Don and Jean are two of the best people you can meet! They have a well-maintained property with a fully stocked kitchen to help ease your culinary needs! Nice tucked away location, very friendly hosts who accommodate your every need, great atmosphere, and gives the full essence of a Door County getaway! Make sure when you are there, that you stop by their bakery as the food there is INCREDIBLE! I would suggest this place to anyone who makes their way up there and they made for an experience that my wife and I will never forget!

Comfortable stay, well stocked kitchen

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the Newport Suite was very nice. We were happy to find the kitchen well stocked with spices and cookware during our stay, and we enjoyed using the large grill. The owners were very friendly, as was their dog. Enjoyed visiting nearby Newport State Park, stopping at the Door County Bakery (also owned by the suite owners) and doing other outdoor activities in door county. We were 2 couples and a single. The space was ample, but as the pictures show there is only privacy for one couple.
