Nice location but.....

  • 2 of 5

Initially when we showed up at the house the location and outside looked great. However, once we walked through the house we noticed mold on the bathroom ceiling and everything in the house was rather filthy. It looked like it hadn't received a deep clean in many years. Many of the dishes/pots/pans/cups had to be washed before we used them. A few of our kids were fighting severe allergy symptoms as soon as we got into the house and throughout our stay. After a few hours a housekeeper showed up and had to "check linens" and it was obvious she was simply doing some recon for the owner which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Other than that the location is really nice and convenient to get to either lake. I would not return to this place simply due to the mold and filth. Fortunately we spent as much time outside as possible.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We thought the location was great. Worth every penny. The house however was nice enough but needs updating. The electrical tripped several times and you have to go out of the house to get to the basement to reset it (not what you want to do in the middle of the night) The middle bedroom screens have a gap so in the middle of the trip my daughters room was full of bugs so she could not use it the rest of the trip and had to sleep on the couch. The kitchen was a little too small and the cupboards are strangely long so it made using that space awkward. Most of the outlets do not have three prongs so we had to go guy adapters. However, Jeff was as accommodating as he could be with the issues.

He did send an electrician to check out the electrical issue and said they had new screens to put in but were waiting for a contractor do install them. With that being said the location was beautiful, the beach was nice on Portage Lake and Lake Michigan was literally a block away so we enjoyed many sunsets. It's not that I don't think it's worth renting, just not at that price.

It's a hidden paradise. With water Views in three directions

  • 5 of 5

This place was so perfect for our family. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the boats go by. The kids enjoyed swimming in Portage lake and Lake Michigan, just a short walk away. We had bonfires every night. The place has a nice rustic feel to it. We will definitely come back next year.

Great Place to Stay - Can't beat the location

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay. Walk to Lake Michigan, right on the channel, and your own private beach on Portage Lake. The backyard is great activities and barbecuing. We had fires on the beach and walked down to the pier/Lake Michigan every day. Kept our boat at the dock and had a great week.

The house is nice, clean and sleeps plenty.

Awesome location great service communication small rooms

  • 4 of 5

The on site manager was awesome and communicated well, the location was amazing with Lake Michigan and Portage Lake on both parts of the property. House was clean and had all the usual amenities. HOWEVER: If it is more than one family you better flip a coin for the master bedroom downstairs. Otherwise upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, yes, but they are small(Queen) and the mattresses need to be upgraded. You cant even fit 2 suitcases on the floor in one of the rooms! The one bedroom has 2 singles which is fine for kids but the other 2 rooms are small. Maybe that doesn't matter to you but if you're spending this kind of money have the bedroom talk with all involved if there is more than one adult couple, because the master bedroom is worth more. If that's not your situation then game on this place rocks!! I can't wait to come back!
