About Charlie and Anne Singer
My wife and I purchased the cottage in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina flooded our home with 11.9 feet of water. After the Hurricane we moved 3 times in a little over a year. At that time we had not started rebuilding our home in Lakeview and decided that we needed a home to call our own knowing that the rebuilding would be long and tedious due to the lack of available contractors. Anne always dreamed of owning a Creole Cottage and even visualized this Cottage in her dreams. She road the neighborhood for weeks on end looking for the Cottage and one lucky day, there it was. She called me at work so excited she could hard contain herself and the rest is history. We were fortunate enough to purchase the Cottage and moved in in early 2006. We enjoyed living in the neighborhood for over two years until moving back home in 2008. We had a lovely friend in graduate school who treasured the Cottage live there until she completed her Ph.D. and relocated. So now we are ready to share this jewel of Esplanade Ridge with visitors from all over the world.

Why Charlie and Anne Singer chose Bayou St. John
I spent the first 24 years of my life in this neighborhood until my wife and I married. We both dreamed of owning a cottage in this neighborhood and, for me, it was like coming home. This neighborhood and cottage is something you have to experience. It is a slice of heaven and we hope that you feel the same way about our Cottage and the neighborhood.

Charming Creole Cottage
We loved staying in this charming Creole cottage. The rooms are light and airy, and the yard was a huge plus for our toddler. The location of the house in a neighborhood with a true neighborhood feel is perfect, and it's just steps from cute restaurants, a coffeehouse, the streetcar, City Park, a historic New Orleans cemetery, and more! Highly recommended.
Great house in a great location
This little 1 bedroom house is a great spot for a couple, or you can add a few more in the living room. Can't speak for the sofabed, but the bedroom is comfortable and roomy compared to most. The kitchen is well stocked and again, large for a "cottage" in NOLA. The house is clean. Parking is typical but not too bad. Often you can park directly in front of your place. We love the neighborhood! You are in walking distance of a coffee shop, grocery store, and several good restaurants. The park is close by also. Charlie and Anne are great to work with! This was our second visit to this rental and we'll be back! There's nothing not to like.
This Mid-City location is charming, walkable, and convenient. Everything was as advertised.
Had a great time biking down the Esplanade to the French Quarter Festival and through City Park. Didn’t have time to eat at all the nearby restaurants but had the gumbo and po’boy at Liuzza’s by the Track. Not to be missed! The cottage is cute and comfortable. Slept like babies and the kitchen is well stocked.
Clean, wonderful place to stay.
After 'the adventure" of trying to find the place, then not able to get in, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Creole Cottage. The owners were/are fantastic people!! The place was spotless and with numerous amenities. Grocery store within walking distance helped alot. Find a spot to park and don't move the car. Very limited parking after hours. Had no problem with uber or taxi service to get us around. The place felt very homey! Enjoyed the back yard! Enjoyed the quietness after the bustle of the Quarter! We will return!! Thank you!
The property was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated.
This cottage was in the perfect location for exploring NOLA. We easily caught the bus or road bikes to all the main attractions in the area. It was very handy having bikes with locks available to us on the property. The neighborhood was wonderful with couples of all ages out biking and walking around, a nearby grocery store, restaurants and bars. This cottage was perfect for vacationing for a week in NOLA.
My husband and I had an absolutely lovely time at Anne and Charlie's cottage! It was very charming and extremely clean. It was in a nice and safe neighborhood and we would highly recommend staying there and are already trying to figure out a way to get back to NOLA. The Singer's were very easy to work with and always responded very quickly. Hope others can have a nice of a time as we did!
Located in the Heart of New Orleans, our Cottage is centrally located and just steps off Historic Esplanade Avenue. Our neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park, the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest and horse racing), and 2 miles from the French Quarter. The neighborhood is a colorful gem and one of the most desirable areas of New Orleans. We enjoy strolling to dinner or to have cocktails at Cafe Degas, Lola's, Nonna Mia, Liuzza's By the Track, or Santa Fe. You'll notice lots of locals enjoying our Alcee Fortier neighborhood park relaxing and enjoying the weather or maybe playing checkers! Around the corner you will find everything you need - all locally owned grocery stores, a wine store, spa, book store, and coffee shops. From our cottage, there is no need to rent a car to explore New Orleans. Walk less then one block to catch the Esplanade Avenue/French Quarter bus into the French Quarter or enjoy the 5-block watch down Esplanade Avenue to City Park to catch the streetcar. Getting around New Orleans by streetcar is a great way to see the city. Walk from the cottage to catch the street car in front of the majestic New Orleans Museum of Art. Streetcars in New Orleans offer and can be paid with exact change when you board. 1, 3, and 31-day unlimited ride Jazzy Passes are also available. The streetcar symbolizes the charm and romance of the City of New Orleans. This streetcar will take you along the scenic route to the CBD and the French Quarter/Aquarium of the Americas. You can then connect to streetcar lines to Uptown New Orleans, Tulane University and the Audubon Zoo. Or transfer to the streetcar that runs along the Mississippi River through the French Quarter. See the Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral, Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square, and the French Market. One of the most beautiful and enjoyable areas of New Orleans is City Park. Devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 1300 Acre New Orleans City Park has been completely restored and expanded. City Park attractions: The New Orleans Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Sculpture Garden, Boat and Bike Rentals, Tennis Center, Fishing, Picnic Shelters and very soon Miniature Golf! You can even enjoy Beignets and Cafe au Lait at Morning Call in the Park. Visit their website for details. Keep your walking shoes on and visit the Audubon Nature Institute's Audubon Zoo (my grandsons love the Cool Zoo sprinklers and water features), Aquarium of the Americas, Insectarium, IMAX Theatre, and the Audubon Park and Golf Course. More info at www.auduboninstitute.org. Don't miss a visit to The National World War II Museum. The museum presents the American experience during the WWII era with moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to allocate roughly 2½ to 3 hours to tour the museum. An award-winning 4-D film, Beyond All Boundaries, is an overview of the war on every front. A variety of other multimedia displays are part of the museum's exhibits, notably dozens of video oral histories conducted with veterans by museum staff. The museum includes two restaurants, the American Sector and the Soda Shop, both operated by noted chef John Besh. www.nationalww2museum.org And then there is....The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! Imagine leisurely walking two blocks to the entrance to Jazz Fest! No hassles with traffic, parking...pure heaven. After an exciting day at the Fest, walk over to Liuzza's By The Track to continue partying or to one of the restaurants to carry on with the incredible food and beverages. Nothing beats this....HEAVENLY
