Why Mary Grogan chose Alaska

We love the area and the views that our house and apartment provide. Also, the convenience is great! Our home is easy to drive into and close to many different activities both in Juneau and Douglas. We can view the 4th of July fireworks from the front window and attend the Douglas 4th festivities with a short walk. Every 4th Sandy Beach is the venue for a fun celebration with many events and a parade. Gold Rush Days are also held there in June. This is a miner/lumberjack competition that we both really enjoy. There is a cafe and pub within 4 blocks and the premier live theatre in Alaska, Perseverance Theatre, is just down the street. It's also quick and easy to get to unbelievable hiking, skiing and fishing spots.

There are great views both in summer and winter. Summer brings boating! It's fun to see friends heading out for fishing or crabbing on their boats and the cruise ships navigating the water way. Winter brings scenes of falling snow and winter sun on the mountains across the channel.

Then there is the wildlife! It never gets old watching eagles, water fowl, whales, and orcas right out of your windows.

What makes this apartment unique

Close to downtown Juneau and Douglas but away from the crowds with fabulous views of the water and the mountains!

Perfect Juneau retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is perfect for a couple looking to enjoy Juneau but not be stuck in the crowds. Just across the bridge from downtown it has a beautiful view of the docks and the sound. I've never stayed in a vrbo or Homeaway unit that was better equipped for travelers.

Great basecamp for Juneau adventures

  • 5 of 5

The Sitting Eagle Guest Suite was the perfect spot for our week-long family vacation to Juneau. The suite is quiet, really well maintained, and had everything we needed. Will certainly consider staying again on future trips to Juneau. Thanks for a great stay!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Well located for adventures in Douglas and Juneau! We did contemplate not renting a car - but in the end glad we did due to the weather. Rain in July does not stop any Fourth of July celebration! Douglas was a lot of fun to watch the community parade (in full rain gear), soap box derby, and deep pit BBQ at the local church. Local fire department was having a cook out too! First parade I've seen with a zamboni AND mining rescue. Sitting Eagle is a good spot for watching fireworks the evening of July 3rd. The suite was perfect for our family of three (including a young teenager). Great amenities and a well stocked kitchen. (Sorta made me want to clear out my kitchen cabinets and start new!). Definitely a great place to stay! Before your trip - I recommend reading "Treadwell Gold" - there is quite a bit of history in Douglas that is fascinating. You will appreciate this small town with a bigger perspective of its historical legacy of settling the west and the gold rush.

Beautiful, comfortable condo. We loved being on Douglas Island. It was perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful condo. We rented a car while in Juneau, which allowed us to come and go as we pleased. The window views from the condo are stunning, looking out at Gastineau Channel and the beautiful mountains. We also watched the cruise ships in the channel, only 3 - 4 at a time were in port, and it was surprisingly majestic to watch them come in in the morning and leave at night. We definitely, absolutely recommend this rental!!
