About Steven Chavez

I purchased this home in 2003 and did an addition to the 2nd story. Also completely gutted the entire home and rebuilt the entire home down to the studs. Everything is new in the home as of 2005. We are both Denver natives. Just had our first son so had to move to a larger house. We loved this house because we could walk everywhere. Also across the street from a school which has a large soccer field, basketball court, playground which is great for summer time activities.

House a bit worn but amazing location

  • 4 of 5

The management team was very responsive and informative- thank you. The location is hard to beat. So many places conveniently within walking distance. Also, there's a great front porch to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Denver weather. Cons- the air mattress which is labeled as a bed, deflated to the extent that the person sleeping on it ended up on the floor in the middle of the night.

Overall, definitely worth the stay.

Nice Interior! Outside needed maintaining and neighborhood alittle scary

  • 3 of 5

Inside was clean. There was one washcloth for the whole house. Needed lots of light bulbs replaced. Carpet on stairs needed to be cleaned, it was slick in the middle where is was packed down and I feel and slide down the stairs. There was plenty of room for everyone. The outside needed to be cleaned and maintained. The neighborhood looked scary but had no problems.

Griswold

  • 2 of 5

The lighting was not good and light bulbs missing in downstairs bathroom. Some receptacles didn't work and not sure if it's up to code. No batteries for TV remotes. Expected 1 king and 1 queen and the queen was 2 twins put together. Will most likely look for other options.

A bit of a Surprise!

  • 4 of 5

I've never spent any time in Denver before, but was coming out with my wife and adult kids for a family wedding weekend. I was warned by a local resident (after I'd booked this unit) to "beware of the Five Points area". The website still looked nice and I was feeling adventurous, so we stuck with the booking.

Steven was most accommodating before we got there, even agreeing to allow us an early check-in, since the unit was already going to be cleaned and empty. When we drove up, the neighborhood seemed "ok" -- it was pretty clear that it had been "rought" at one time, but had improved substantially -- lots of lovely solid houses that had been updated and the yards were either simple and clean, or beautifully landscaped.

The outside of is house was more in the "simple" vein, although it the front patio with table and chairs and BBQ grill looked like a nice place to sppend some evenings. When we opened the door, the real work was the pleasant surprise! High ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors (bamboo?), a large comfortable set of couches and ottoman, and an open-concept into the nicely remodeled kitchen and dining area. The deep terra-cotta wall color was warm and inviting. The exposed beamwork on the ceiling pulled the whole vision together -- really comfortable, with a degree of sophistication.

The two upstairs bedrooms were huge, and could have actually used a bit more furniture just to fill-in the space. The "gem" up here was the bathroom with an immense tile shower with two high-end shower heads and plenty of room for cleaning-up with a partner!

The third bedroom and second bathroom were on the main floor, behind the kitchen and on the toward the fenced parking area in back of the house (accessible from the alley). The lot sizes here are a little tight and I was concerned about next-door-neighbor noise, but it proved not to be an issue.

I would recommend this property to anyone with a group large enough to justify the space, and appreciate Steven's efforts in restoring this space and making it available to visitors!

Great Time

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay. Owner was excellent to work with. The AC unit was not working properly the first day/night of our stay. Steven was right on it and had his guys out to fix it right away. Additionaly, the place was very nice and clean. I would recommend this place.

Good Enough For Us!

  • 3 of 5

We spent over a week in Denver and surrounding areas with another family. When I first rented this home there was only one review, by the time we were ready to travel there were a few others with a some negative response. I contacted the owner and he reassured me with the issues I had. He also sent me some positive feed back he had received, and I felt better before our departure.

Once we arrived in the neighborhood we were a little concerned, as we were traveling with kids, and the area seemed a little sketchy. We were happy to find the off street parking in the back.

This house actually served our 2 families great...it is a great location to lots of attractions, close to freeways, light rail and easy to get around. We explored the area every day. Each morning we sat out on the front patio and enjoyed our coffee and the local neighborhood feel. The neighbors directly next store were very friendly and nice, chatted with them each day.

Here are some of our concerns: it was a little loud, but we dealt with it just fine. The master bedroom, needs drapes, there are french doors with nothing on them, facing the street. I quickly found a blanket and thumb tacks and fixed it...but kinda tacky for your vacation. On the pictures it had shown a bbq, and I had even made sure it was there by contacting the owner...well when we got there it was gone. We would have most likely used that a couple times if it had been there. The house really needs amenities! Fully stocked kitchen...NOT! It was hard to cook a meal...there were no pot holders, and few kitchen towels, needed a baking sheet for bread and there was none. There was limited kitchen supplies and no spices or basic cooking items. Most houses that I have rented in the past have a few items in the cabinets, which is great when you want to cook in. The bathrooms/kitchen were about out of hand soap. We had to go out and buy TP and paper towels, as there was none. There was also no trash bags except store grocery bags. There is a washer and dryer, but no laundry soap. I wanted to wash our towels and had to go out and buy laundry soap.

Heres the deal...the place was great...if the owner would just add a few "extras" some supplies, some board games, some movies, a well stocked kitchen, more items you need everyday to run a household it would have been much more enjoyable! I had to buy coffee filters for the coffee pot! (which I left for the next 100 pots of coffee) I just think a little attention would be nice!
