We had great time here! The house is very big and open. I loved all the open space and no matter where you sat you still had good views of the lake. Very quiet and peaceful. There was 10 of us and we didn't have to worry about showers or beds, everyone one was very comfortable. We woke up one morning to see a mommy deer feeding her baby. The kids loved it. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because the game room needs updating! The air hockey machine did not work properly and the basketball hoops were ripped and the basketballs were flat. The games were kinda all over the place and some of the games peices were missing. Kids were a little disappointed with that. Other than that we would difiantly come back. Holidays would be great here. Michael responds quickly to any questions you have. Thank you for letting us stay at your place.
Our entire family (19) spent a week at this rental home. It worked out really well for our family with 10 kids 12 and under. Great bedrooms with lots of floor space for kids sleeping on the floors. The game room with pac man, air hockey, goose all, and basketball helped keep the kids entertained on our rainy days. Plenty of showers and bathrooms for all. There were lots of fun activities to do in the area. Hiking, water park (Ventura water park by eddyville) go carts. The home does not have good beach swimming on the property nor boat access. We brought a couple kayaks along and that worked well from the shoreline we did some fishing from the shoreline as well. We had a great time together. Thank you Mike for a great stay.
We spent a week with extended family at this property. The house has plenty of room for guests if you use airmatresses. There are beds for 12. Game room provided plenty of entertainment for the kids. While we were there the main AC unit went out, which the property owner seemed to address in a reasonable fashion. The big problem with the property was the lake access. There is a forest preserve on the back of the property. You cannot access the water there in any reasonable fashion except to fish. It's a 2 foot drop over tree roots into a murky cove. We were told that we could use the community dock to tie up the boat during the day. We were quickly informed by year round residents that we were not allowed to tie up for the day. This meant frequent trailoring of the boat. There was no swimming off community dock. The only swimming was 30 minutes away at the state park.
We stayed this past weekend with our whole family in order to celebrate my grandparents' 60th anniversary. It was terrific! The house is very spacious, nicely appointed, and very clean. The owner is very helpful and quick to reply to any questions. We were thrilled to see all of the wildlife just out the windows. Every day we watched deer, rabbits, water fowl, and more right in the yard. We rented a boat from the marina and it all worked out well. We look forward to going back!
Loved our stay in this beautiful home! We have a family of 10 plus grandparents who joined us and we had plenty of room. Really enjoyed the kitchen, dining and great room area--loved how open it was--enjoyed many of late nights playing cards, eating meals and just relaxing. We rented a tritoon and jet skis almost the entire week from the marina which was a two minute drive away by water (about 20-25' by car). The people at Lake Barkley Marina were super awesome, very helpful and genuinely wanted to help make our stay a great one. Aside from the home, one of our favorite spots to go and enjoy was down by the beach with the rope swing. It's a must if you enjoy the water! We would anchor our boat and jet skis and spent many afternoons swimming and just hanging out there. The kids LOVED it!!! Fishing wasn't so good while we were there, but it didn't stop many of our avid fishermen from trying. Caught several big catfish, many small ones and probably a dozen bluegill fishing off the shore by the home. We had a good time trying!! All in all, we made many memories that will be talked about for years to come. Perfect place for our large family!!
Home interior was very nice, showers luxurious, beautiful kitchen, very roomy. The house is a bit dark and could use some lighting updates. With small kids you would need to be cautious as the stair and loft banisters are not to code and a small child could easily fall through.
We did have an issue with the air conditioning on main floor working when we arrived but owner responded promptly to the concern and had it fixed as quickly as possible, which we appreciated.
The property is beautiful with great opportunities to see wildlife as described. One morning we walked down to the lake edge and found two baby fawn hiding in the brush. We quickly left them alone but my daughter will likely never forget that. I do think however that the pictures are a bit misleading, they represent the views from the property well but give the impression of shoreline, which is actually the neighbors, who has obvious no trespassing signs posted. Most of the property line is actually wooded without very good access. There is a small trail leading to the lake edge through the woods but is weedy and a sharp drop off to the water, not a beach, so would not be a good place to "launch your kayak" as the house descriptions suggests. Lake access was a bit disappointing but overall our stay was good.
