About Joy Drewry

My name is Joy Drewry. My husband and I vacationed in this area of the Smokys with our three children many years ago. As childhood sweethearts we always enjoyed the great outdoors together. In later years we delighted in teaching our children and grandchildren to love and appreciate nature. Though this area has grown, we chose to build our cottage here because it has remained a quiet place with an abundance of amenities and great restaurants, yet unlike the 'touritsty' crowded places with which you may be familiar.

Joy Drewry purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Joy Drewry chose Smoky Mountains

We built our log cottage to accomodate families and our seven grandchildren (though not all at one time!). The wrap around porch may be gated to allow younger children freedom to play outside--even during summer showers. It is my favorite place to read a good book or visit with friends while soaking in the absolute quiet, except for the birds or occasional wild turkey or deer that wander through our yard.

I love the charm of rustic interiors contrasted with functional antiques, yet family-friendly. You will enjoy the privacy of two wooded acres AND the security of nearby neighbors. We are located 1 to 3 miles from all Sapphire Valley Resort amenities, 4 miles from a great supermarket, and 5 miles from the charming village of Cashiers (pronounced 'cash-ers').

What makes this cottage unique

The cool mountain air affords relief from our hot Florida summers. We love sleeping under quilts with windows opened many summer nights, though there are ceiling fans and AC readily available. Winters are mostly mild and sunny with few closed days on the golf courses. Skiing and tubing with both natural and man-made snow are available during the colder months. Spring and fall are two of our favorite seasons in the mountains. Mountain laurel and rhododendron cover the landscape in spring and the vibrant fall foliage is breathtaking--and all may be viewed from our windows or porches.

Bring a good book and your clubs, rods, and hiking boots. Or, for the shoppers, anticipate great antiquing, craft, art, consignment, auctions, and assorted unique shops in Cashiers and Highlands (10 miles away). Tubing on Deep Creek in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, sliding down Cashier's famous Sliding Rock into a clear pool of cool water, or taking a paddle boat or canoe onto Fairfield Lake will provide fun for the entire family. I will happily provide tips on nearby events, outings, and favorite restaurants our friends and family enjoy. Welcome!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We felt so warm and cozy with a huge roaring fire every night! Our family enjoyed being together putting together one of your large puzzles, playing cards and checkers and having family movie night downstairs. Some took early morning hikes to beautiful waterfalls, while I drank coffee and gazed on God's beautiful creation through the large windows in the kitchen and family room. We spent a day in Asheville and in Highlands. We are grateful for the opportunity to have stayed in your peaceful and lovely cottage! It was perfect for a time of rest and sweet fellowship.

As wonderful as the first time

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed here for 5 glorious days in October and this is still the very nicest, most comfortable house we've ever stayed in through VRBO. Everything about it is perfect - roomy, great floorpan, immaculately clean, perfectly furnished and stocked. The owner is an absolute delight to work with and especially on this trip when she was in the midst of evacuating from her home on Amelia Island because of a hurricane. I can't say enough about this place - not to mention the location, breathtaking views, huge porch and cozy fireplace; all make this a vacation home you'll want to return to often. Thanks, Joy.

Great place! I stayed with my family for Christmas week! We had a great and peaceful week! The area is amazing. The owner was really helpful and easy to communicate with. The house is really big, comfortable and well distributed. A lot of things to do. Can't wait to plan a summer vacation to enjoy the outdoors in a different way. Cashiers and Highlands, great places to visit!

Lovely Mountain House With A View

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at this beautiful mountain home. The house has an amazing view with a wonderful wrap around, covered porch. The perfect place to start your day with a cup of coffee. Our family was very comfortable there with 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. The kitchen is a nice size and well outfitted. There are many activities close by. We look forward to returning again!

Peaceful Place

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at Log Inn. We loved it so much the first time, that we did not even look at other rentals this summer. The view is just beautiful!! Joy, the owner, is so easy to work with and truly wants you to enjoy your stay. Cashiers is our favorite place. If you go, don't miss trips to the lake- great fun and more amazing views.

We stayed at Log Inn over the Christmas holiday. We enjoyed every moment of the vacation. The owners were excellent. We had no issues at all. The three kids in attendance enjoyed playing outdoors when it wasn't raining and playing board games while it was. We barely left the home. We enjoyed spending much needed quality time with each other. We are looking forward to another stay.
