New 650 sq ft, one bedroom luxurious guest home in prime montecito location.
I moved to Montecito in the late 60's and was lucky enough to raise my boys in this beautiful town and now watch my grandchildren grow up right down the street from my home. When visiting my home, you will quickly see my passion for orchids. My orchid life started as a pot washer for my husband's hundreds of orchids and I quickly became fascinated with the history of all of his complex paphiopedilum collection. His knowledge, love, and enthusiasm for orchids were contagious and soon we built a second greenhouse, and that was the moment that orchids became an important part of my life. I am the immediate past president of The American Orchid Society and editor in chief of the Orchid Digest. Besides the plants themselves and the never-ending opportunity to learn about them, I love being involved in the orchid world because it offers an opportunity to meet and work with so many amazing and fascinating people. When I am not traveling the world speaking about Orchids, I love spending time with my family and friends. My house manager is the perfect person to answer any and all of your questions.
Sandra purchased this House in 2013
Why Sandra chose Santa Barbara
I decided to build this guest home after discovering one of our two orchid green houses needed a lot of work. After much thought, I decided it would be the perfect place to build a guest home for travelers visiting Montecito and a beautiful representation of space that for many years was the home to orchids from around the world.

Magical montecito weekend
Orchid oasis is as advertised, will be returning. Enjoyed local spots the Honor Bar and Lucky's and utilized the kitchen Saturday night by cooking a lasagna, enjoyed morning mimosas around the coy pond and cuddling by the fireplace each evening. Far and away superior to any hotel.
Beautiful well kept guest home in romantic Montecito well located to dining and the beach.
Another Blissful Stay!!!
This was our second stay at the Orchid Oasis, and it was even better than I had remembered! The cottage is perfect in every way--warm and tasteful decor, cozy bedroom, comfortable bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, and a beautiful living room with fireplace that looks out onto a stunning garden. Communication with Sandra was friendly, helpful and detailed--while providing complete privacy. We are already planning our next trip to the Orchid Oasis as it was SO difficult to leave such a beautiful place! Thank you, Sandra, for sharing your secret paradise!
Wonderful Long Weekend
We loved out stay in Montecito. The guest house had everything we needed and more. A convenient and short drive to everywhere we wanted to go. We will definitely be back.
Photos can't quite do justice to this space. It's difficult to capture the light, the sound of the birds and waterfall, the classic glimpse of Santa Barbara mountains over the greenhouse and the sense of space, privacy, and just a kind of "rightness" about the house and garden. I grew up in Santa Barbara and this little house just captures the familiar, intangible elegance of quiet, low-key Montecito streets among gorgeous mature trees and gardens .
The house layout is so easy to be in--upscale, comfortable, inviting. It feels luxuriously spacious for two; another reviewer said it feels like a bungalow at a five-star hotel. Agreed. You enter through an unassuming kitchen door and are truly, in a little oasis. I'm picky about privacy and I was completely at ease (though expect the gardener on Saturday). We felt immediately at home.
There are lovely windows, plenty of screens and shades, and good lamps so you can set your scene, and invite the outdoors in--there's a graceful indoor/outdoor flow with the beautiful garden. Lots of storage so you can really unpack, a wonderful desk space for work. Normally we avoid queen beds, but we were very comfortable in this case. The Sonos music system was a snap to use with the phone app.
The washer/dryer and all appliances are top quality. Kitchen is quite small but doesn't feel it. (My only quibble would be the mix/match collection of glasses and mugs--everything you need but just not 5-star like absolutely everything else in the house). We used the provided beach towels and chairs and had everything we needed at every turn.
Some thoughts to help stay in the relaxed vibe of the house:
-Definitely read the "what do do if you are locked out" info in the kitchen.
-It's a pleasant walking distance to good restaurants, shopping, and beach--but as the guest book explains, it's best to turn right out of the driveway and then turn down Butterfly Lane, which has more space to walk than Middle Road and no blind curve. If you are returning after dark be sure to have a flashlight/phone (and enjoy the stars)
-Santa Barbara beaches can leave tar on your feet at some times of year. Pack a bottle of baby oil or tar wipes and leave it on the patio; you can walk around the left side of the house and clean off first and not stress about tracking something in.
We enjoyed everything about the Orchid Oasis. It was the perfect place to live in Montecito for a weekend. Thank you Sandra.
It is hard to imagine a more idyllic setting and stunning natural landscape than that found throughout the seaside village of Montecito, California. Long renowned as a verdant retreat, Montecito has become one of, if not the most exclusive and attractive communities in the world. Montecito is also home to an exceptional array of restaurants, boutiques, delis, art galleries, pizza parlors, jewelry stores, ice cream shops, and local merchants along the famed Coast Village Road. Often compared to Rodeo Drive – although more laid back – many residents and visitors enjoy spending the afternoon window-shopping throughout this beautiful area. Other popular attractions include two public parks, a public tennis court, a family-oriented YMCA, and the Montecito Village Shopping Center. Butterfly Beach, one of only a few south facing beaches in southern California, is located in Montecito, backed by the Coral Casino, Biltmore Hotel, and the Santa Barbara Music Academy. Known also as The American Riviera, Santa Barbara is home to fine dining, upscale shopping, first class entertainment venues, historic attractions, year-round beaches and outdoor activities such as golf, tennis, surfing, whale watching, hiking, horseback riding and wine tasting. Truly something for everyone…
