This privately owned year round lakefront cabin is just 6 miles outside of Park Rapids, MN. Come discover the various area attractions and take yourself back in time by parking in the middle of the street downtown. The cabin is a perfect vacation spot for making special memories. The family vacation experience includes the scent of fresh pine, water sports, quality fishing, lakefront grilling right outside your door and family fun you create. Enjoy a panoramic view of Long Lake while drinking coffee or reading on the front deck or on the log swing in the front yard.

Long Lake is 9 miles long, 1,974 acres with a maximum depth of 135 feet, great for all water sports including canoeing, skiing, tubing, lake cruising and fishing. As one of the larger and deeper lakes in the area, it features walleye, large-mouth and small-mouth bass, northern pike, crappie, sunfish, bluegill, and rock bass.

The vacation cottage is fully heated and air conditioned. Each of the three bedrooms have queen size beds and plenty of closet space. It also features a 16 x 16 large four seasons room with a double reclining couch and 2 Laz-E-Boy recliners, 48' flat panel television, cable TV and DVD player. Free wireless internet access. The living room also has an additional TV and DVD player. The living/kitchen and dining area is an open floor plan with an amazing lake view.

The cottage is fully furnished and move-in ready. All you need to bring is your clothes. All bed linens and kitchen and bath washrags/towels and beach towels are included. The kitchen is fully equipped including microwave, toaster, blender, coffeemaker, electric skillet, griddle, crock pot and all pots, pans and dishes you could possibly need. There is a fire pit overlooking the lake for night visits around the fire. All firewood is provided. There is a deck on the front and on the back of the cabin. A Weber charcoal grill is provided located on the lakefront side of the cottage.

For cruising the lake a 15' canoe, Lund 16’ fishing boat with a 15 HP Evinrude outboard motor and 18' Bass Buggy pontoon boat with a 40 HP Johnson motor are included in the rental price. The pontoon lift has a large canopy that is great for little ones to get out of the sun. If you prefer to bring your own boat, we will be happy to let you use one of our boat lifts or tie it to our second dock.

The cabin is within a short drive of Itasca State Park, the source of the Mississippi River, hiking and biking trails, golf courses, a variety of restaurants, and the boutique shops of downtown Park Rapids. The Heartland Trail for biking starts in Park Rapids and is a paved bike trail that extends for over 100 miles to the east. There are many shops and restaurants along the way. Bicycle rentals are available at the trail head. The Park Rapids area is great for shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. You can truly discover the beauty of the Northwoods.

You will witness the breathtaking brilliance of the stars far away from the lights of the city and hear the song of the loons across the lake calling out to one another in the tranquil darkness. Who knows? You may even be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights while you’re there! The satisfaction you'll feel knowing that you have provided your family with the gift of enduring memories--that's priceless.

This cottage has a central furnace and is insulated for early spring and fall fishing trips as well! Spring and fall fisherman will be nicely surprised.

For the comfort of our guests and out of respect those with severe allergies, absolutely no pets are allowed and there is no smoking inside the cabin.

About Mike Appel

My wife and I met one summer in 1968 on Chippewa Loop on Long Lake. It's no surprise when we tell you our hearts and our favorite place in this world will always be on Chippewa Loop in Park Rapids, MN. Our parents loved it here and had it not been for that, our lives would have gone in totally different directions. We love to share our lake home with other people and watch them make special memories in our special place with those they love. Life is about relationships and this is the place relationships are built.

Mike Appel purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Mike Appel chose Northwest

Growing up having family vacations on Long Lake was a very unique and special vacation for us as kids. It seemed our parents were always working on the cabin on Chippewa Loop, but our memories are of running barefoot down the road, swimming for hours, learning to ski and meeting new friends. There are countless memories of being in fishing boats on Blueberry Point, teasing other friends and fisherman and having a great time. The fish fry gatherings were amazing, the laughter contagious. and the sleeping was the best in the world! Our adult children and grandchildren look forward to MN vacations as much as we always have. It has not lost its charm. It's fun to watch as they run barefoot and do all the things we did with the same enthusiasm. When you stay in our cottage we want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as if you owned it. We want you to use it as if it were yours.

What makes this cabin unique

The lake is so clean you can see the minnows swimming around in the shallows, can see your fish on the line way before they get to your boat, and you can see the bluegill swimming around from the end of the dock. If you have little ones they can catch fish all day long from the end of the dock. If you love to go for walks, the winding, sandy road called Chippewa Loop is the best! The clean, fresh pine-scented air is so refreshing you'll want to leave your windows open at night. Even though you're enjoying the Northland on a beautiful lake it's only 6 miles to town where you can find groceries, drug stores, shopping, fishing tackle, live bait, boat dealers, any kind of restaurant you can imagine, theaters, go-cart racing, miniature golf, golf courses galore and yes even a Walmart! What's there not to love?

fantastic week

  • 5 of 5

My wife. sister-in-law and myself spent a week on Long Lake. All that needs to be said was

'' Fantastic".

The cabin was right on the lake shore and very nicely furnished. We had a chance to be about 20 feet from an bald eagle as it flew right over the deck as we were enjoying the beautiful view. That alone was worth the trip. Really the only thing to worry about was the number of stairs to reach the docks. The cabin was fully furnished with about any thing you would need.

WE WOULD DEFFINATLY STAY THERE AGAIN.

Owner's Response: We really enjoyed getting to know these fine folks. They were easy to get to know and very respectful of our property. It turned out to be kind of cloudy so it's great to hear they had a good time. This is our home so all the amenities are there! If you love nature and beautiful lake views like these people did, you will really enjoy some of the "surprises" like the eagles and loons, black and gray squirrels and watching the fishermen cominng and going, as well as all the boats and jetskis in the summer!

Quiet autumn vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

Mike and Di have a lovely lake home. It is very comfortable and feels almost like a B & B. The week we were there it was very quiet-which is what we wanted. We fished in the early AM and later in the afternoon, relaxed, read, did a little grilling or went into town. Lots of great places to eat and Park Rapids has fun places to explore in town. Highly recommend to anyone. Thank you both again!! Mahmood & Kim

Appel Lane - memories abound - best vacation yet

  • 5 of 5

Mike and Di were the most gracious hosts and their home was by far the best we have experienced in the 31 years that we have been spending our vacation on Long Lake. The home was immaculate and provided the many amenities which we longed in a vacation get a way. Fishing boat, pontoon boat, canoe, outdoor grilling, fire pit, 3 spacious bedrooms, INTERNET access and the most comfortable beds around. They provided us with new dining opportunities in the area and they were all excellent.

We don't want to give out too much information as this gorgeous getaway home might not be available for us next year.

In summary, it was a magnificent vacation with loads of lifelong memories and a new and wonderful friendship with 2 very hospital home owners. We are already looking forward to next year and reliving the memories on Appel Lane :-) Thanks again Mike and Di.

Owner's Response: We truly enjoyed getting to know this couple at our "meet and greet" that we do upon arrival. They were cordial and took great care of our property, leaving it spotlessly clean. We are humbled by their comments. We have worked many years to upgrade and maintain the cottage and to make it feel like "home" to all that come. How wonderful when they appreciate our efforts to make their stay comfortable!

A great Cozy Cabin to Enjoy the Lake

  • 5 of 5

Mike and Di have an amazing property with all the items and amenities you need for a lake vacation. I can't believe how great the sandy beach and dock area was for our toddler to play and enjoy the water. The fire pit and bbq came in extra handy and a washer/dryer so we didn't have to over pack. The pontoon boat really added to our enjoyment. We will be back next summer!!!

Owner's Response: We really enjoyed having this fine young couple at our cottage. We're so glad they enjoyed our 100' of beach area. The water is so clean for playing in the lake and on the beach that it's perfect for all ages. The natural sand in the swimming area really adds to being able to enjoy the water! We love hearing back from our guests!!

PERFECTION!!!

  • 5 of 5

I feel so blessed that Mike and Di were able to get us into their wonderful cabin on Long Lake. It has everything you could ever need right there at your finger tips. Not only does it have amazing views, a nice fishing boat, pontoon boat, towels galore(beach, bath & kitchen) and one of the best things it has to offer is 2 wonderful owners. Our family enjoyed visiting with Mike and Di and also their families who were next door. Renting from such wonderful people made our stay even better. As for the lake...... it was beautiful. We swam right off of our beach as the water was so clear and nice. The guys fished and always caught fish every time. This was what we needed for a vacation. Some of us knew how to play pitch when we went and everyone knew how to play when we came home. The memories we made will last a lifetime. Can't wait t return next you. If you are thinking about renting a great place this is the one... We have shared this place with many friends. Thanks again so much Mike & Di..... I will send photos after the wedding. So glad we have gotten to know you both. The Brimms
